    To everyone:

I have to do some serious thinking. Do I REALLY want to keep slamming my head against the brick walls here? God help me, sometimes I think defending against the Arian heresy would have been a picnic compared to the slime being thrown around here.

I was essentially called "crazy" in the Andrea Yates thread, and when I defended myself, I was accused of taking everything personally and becoming hostile and defensive. When I bowed out of one thread, one of my contenders gave himself a row of "claps" like he'd won the Heavyweight championship.

Now I apparently have given my heartiest endorsement to allowing pedophiles run rampant throughout the ranks of the Catholic Church, to prey on defenseless little children everywhere.

This stuff hurts. All I really want to do is share how much I love God and how wonderful my faith has been to me.

::: unpinning target from back :::

Here. I'll think about maybe coming back and picking it up again.

Peace be with all of you,
    ~VOW

You make points when you comfort people, you lose them when you challenge them. It's not your fault. We all are called to do both, as best we can.

Maybe I'm a scabby old veteran of too may internet forums, but this place is actually quite warm and fuzzy compared to a lot of places I've been!

    Cept this freezer!!!! ;p

    To Shane,

I expect to be challenged in some arenas; that is the art of battle. But to be knifed in the soul, by fellow brothers in Christ for not toeing a line they, NOT Jesus, draw in the sand...

My children are so precious to me, and to be accused, slandered, of endorsing pedophilia... by "Christians" no less. To be attacked for standing up for the defenseless, in a thread on mental illness. Jesus CURED the mentally ill; people here might have drowned them in the lake with the demonized swine, I don't know.

As you do to the least of them so you have done to me. If I were sick, or wrongfully accused, I wouldn't want to be abandoned. I was naked, and you clothed me. In some threads, I've felt stripped down to nothing.

    <sigh>

    Peace be with you,
    ~VOW

    Dear VOW,

I know all too well how you feel. Whenever the departed Kirkland1244 would paint me with the Fred Phelps or Jack Chick brush simply because I am Baptist, I would feel the way you do now. It hurts that just because I don't believe in things like transubtantiation or Marian prayers or stuff like that, that some would try to skin me alive. But it also hurts me that because I choose to love ALL my Christian brethren regardless of denomination or beliefs, that many other Baptists would want me impaled on a rusty Space Needle. I empathize with ya I really do. Always take it to God and He will carry you through the best and worst of times. :)

    In Christ,

    Jeff

You take so much on yourself *hugs* People are not lashing out at you, but the situation, and frustration and the fact that not only can they not DO anything, but that there is not even any argeement about what ought to be done.

Well, MOST people. Some people are just meanies! :) (LIKE ME!)

You're where I was about a month ago. Take some time to reflect, but don't give up entirely.
I just read through the length of the Andrea Yates thread, and I have to admit that you hung in there a lot longer than I would have.

But it's essentially the same thing as the pedophile priest thread.....the bottom line seems to be that nobody wants to show these people any forgiveness or mercy; they've done wrong, they've hurt people, they've murdered chirldren, so by God, OFF WITH THEIR HEADS!!!

I don't know whether this is a reflection of the "Me Me Me, I'm a victim, I have my rights, I'm not getting my due" syndrome so prevalent in American society over the last 30 years or so, or whether it's a hard-line reflection of the Calvinist "total depravity, therefore, show no mercy but go forth and slay" doctrine; but what it boils down to is, if you say that these people are guilty, and that they are deserving of punishment---but that they should also be shown the slightest amount of mercy because that's what Christ asks us to do, then you're going to bucking upstream, because most people want blood in these cases, they want vengeance, they want to see teeth, hair, and eyeballs on the sidewalk, they want somebody's head impaled on a pikestaff. There's no shades of grey here. Just stark black and white. Show no mercy, take no prisoners, beware thou the mutant.
    {{{{{{{{VOW}}}}}}}}} Take heart, VOW.

And remember: the next time you feel like you have been viciously assaulted by someone who was specifically aiming to hurt you, keep in mind something a dear friend of mine in college once said: "Never attribute to malice what can be explained by stupidity."
