You're thinking of sin as something you "get away with" is very telling.
When a person knows to do right and they don't do it, why would you think that they are not trying to get away with doing evil?
The fair question is aren't you yourself trying to get away with doing evil EVERY TIME you STILL sin? HUH?
Did they just stumble accidentally into it?
There are unintentional and intentional sins.
Would that excuse work with God? ...
There is NO EXCUSE before God. Why would anyone even think to ask such a silly question? Rom 1:20 - For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made,
so that they are without excuse.
But, I have a question for you. How do you explain these verses?
Rom 4:6-8
6 just as David also speaks of the blessing on the man to whom God credits righteousness apart from works:
7 “Blessed are those whose lawless deeds have been forgiven, And whose sins have been covered.
8 “Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord will not take into account.”
Specifically, v.6 tells us plainly that God credits righteousness apart from works. The rest of ch 4 teaches that righteousness is by faith.
v.7 speaks of sins being covered. They seem not to be in your own eyes.
And v.8 really refutes your notions of sin.
