God tells Israel he was their husband but by Idolatry they chased other lovers...
*[[Isa 54:5]] KJV* For thy Maker is thine husband; the LORD of hosts is his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called.
*[[Isa 57:5-9]] KJV*
%v 5% Enflaming yourselves with idols under every green tree, slaying the children in the valleys under the clifts of the rocks?
%v 6% Among the smooth stones of the stream is thy portion; they, they are thy lot: even to them hast thou poured a drink offering, thou hast offered a meat offering. Should I receive comfort in these?
%v 7% Upon a lofty and high mountain hast thou set thy bed: even thither wentest thou up to offer sacrifice.
%v 8% Behind the doors also and the posts hast thou set up thy remembrance: for thou hast discovered thyself to another than me, and art gone up; thou hast enlarged thy bed, and made thee a covenant with them; thou lovedst their bed where thou sawest it.
%v 9% And thou wentest to the king with ointment, and didst increase thy perfumes, and didst send thy messengers far off, and didst debase thyself even unto hell.
*[[Jer 3:6-15]] KJV*
%v 6% The LORD said also unto me in the days of Josiah the king, Hast thou seen that which backsliding Israel hath done? she is gone up upon every high mountain and under every green tree, and there hath played the harlot.
%v 7% And I said after she had done all these things, Turn thou unto me. But she returned not. And her treacherous sister Judah saw it.
%v 8% And I saw, when for all the causes whereby backsliding Israel committed adultery I had put her away, and given her a bill of divorce; yet her treacherous sister Judah feared not, but went and played the harlot also.
%v 9% And it came to pass through the lightness of her whoredom, that she defiled the land, and committed adultery with stones and with stocks.
%v 10% And yet for all this her treacherous sister Judah hath not turned unto me with her whole heart, but feignedly, saith the LORD.
%v 11% And the LORD said unto me, The backsliding Israel hath justified herself more than treacherous Judah.
%v 12% Go and proclaim these words toward the north, and say, Return, thou backsliding Israel, saith the LORD; and I will not cause mine anger to fall upon you: for I am merciful, saith the LORD, and I will not keep anger for ever.
%v 13% Only acknowledge thine iniquity, that thou hast transgressed against the LORD thy God, and hast scattered thy ways to the strangers under every green tree, and ye have not obeyed my voice, saith the LORD.
%v 14% Turn, O backsliding children, saith the LORD; for I am married unto you: and I will take you one of a city, and two of a family, and I will bring you to Zion:
%v 15% And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.
*[[Jer 3:20-22]] KJV*
%v 20% Surely as a wife treacherously departeth from her husband, so have ye dealt treacherously with me, O house of Israel, saith the LORD.
%v 21% A voice was heard upon the high places, weeping and supplications of the children of Israel: for they have perverted their way, and they have forgotten the LORD their God.
%v 22% Return, ye backsliding children, and I will heal your backslidings. Behold, we come unto thee; for thou art the LORD our God.
*[[Jer 13:27]] KJV* I have seen thine adulteries, and thy neighings, the lewdness of thy whoredom, and thine abominations on the hills in the fields. Woe unto thee, O Jerusalem! wilt thou not be made clean? when shall it once be?
*[[Eze 6:8-10]] KJV*
%v 8% Yet will I leave a remnant, that ye may have some that shall escape the sword among the nations, when ye shall be scattered through the countries.
%v 9% And they that escape of you shall remember me among the nations whither they shall be carried captives, because I am broken with their whorish heart, which hath departed from me, and with their eyes, which go a whoring after their idols: and they shall lothe themselves for the evils which they have committed in all their abominations.
%v 10% And they shall know that I am the LORD, and that I have not said in vain that I would do this evil unto them.
*[[Hos 2:2-8]] KJV*
%v 2% Plead with your mother, plead: for she is not my wife, neither am I her husband: let her therefore put away her whoredoms out of her sight, and her adulteries from between her breasts;
%v 3% Lest I strip her naked, and set her as in the day that she was born, and make her as a wilderness, and set her like a dry land, and slay her with thirst.
%v 4% And I will not have mercy upon her children; for they be the children of whoredoms.
%v 5% For their mother hath played the harlot: she that conceived them hath done shamefully: for she said, I will go after my lovers, that give me my bread and my water, my wool and my flax, mine oil and my drink.
%v 6% Therefore, behold, I will hedge up thy way with thorns, and make a wall, that she shall not find her paths.
%v 7% And she shall follow after her lovers, but she shall not overtake them; and she shall seek them, but shall not find them: then shall she say, I will go and return to my first husband; for then was it better with me than now.
%v 8% For she did not know that I gave her corn, and wine, and oil, and multiplied her silver and gold, which they prepared for Baal.
*[[Hos 3:1-5]] KJV*
%v 1% Then said the LORD unto me, Go yet, love a woman beloved of her friend, yet an adulteress, according to the love of the LORD toward the children of Israel, who look to other gods, and love flagons of wine.
%v 2% So I bought her to me for fifteen pieces of silver, and for an homer of barley, and an half homer of barley:
%v 3% And I said unto her, Thou shalt abide for me many days; thou shalt not play the harlot, and thou shalt not be for another man: so will I also be for thee.
%v 4% For the children of Israel shall abide many days without a king, and without a prince, and without a sacrifice, and without an image, and without an ephod, and without teraphim:
%v 5% Afterward shall the children of Israel return, and seek the LORD their God, and David their king; and shall fear the LORD and his goodness in the latter days.
Sorry This is long but I wanted to show Gods anger without his mercy is not him
In the same way his mercy minus his anger is not him.
Yes idolatry is adultery...the commands that deal with what we should be with God are mirrored by what you should be with the others.
