i KNOW, right? How insulting is THAT? The bottom line is then, why'd they go to them from the gitgo?

going after idols after knowing of the God of Israel, is especially insulting, however, isn't it? Isn't it an "in yer face" thing to do to God? It's kinda like sayin' to God that He ain't got no right to BE God or be worshiped and that He's not "good enough", isn't it?

This would be an excellent study, because man-made gods are basically a self-idolization, and a rebellion against the living God, and putting ourselves on the "throne" and "de-throning" God. It's a particular, and deliberate wickedness. KInda reminds me of one that had attempted to be as God and de-throne him from the beginning. Familiar traits from an oh-so-familiar source.

Adam desired to be as God...and the bent of the self we recieved from him continues...a warning to those who have recieved Gods Spirit...if those of the flesh are judged of God how much more those who have recieved his Spirit.

Brinny we wont see eye to eye here on this because I believe he was speaking of Adam not a fallen angel...most dont agree with me...even my wife...so I trust the Spirit will lead me to explain it better or show me Im wrong.

1)On the seventh day God saw all he had created was very good...indicating no iniquity was presant
2)the 14th chapter Isaiah and 28th chapter of Ezekiel from which most derive the rebellion in heaven can clearly be Adam
3)the word satan and devil mean adversary...scripture is plain that we as individuals and as a society are our own adversary
4)Jesus rebuked Peter calling him satan who minds the things that are of men and not of God
5)the Pharisees are called sons of their father the devil...but we know he did not mean their father was a fallen angel
I share these things with heavy heart....for most apon hearing such will hold up a crucifix and sprinkle me with holy water...but if I say I believe something else I make myself a liar

But as I stated I enjoy this thread and dont want to derail it.

We could do that...and to answer your question
Adam was a man but he passed us more than skin and bone but a nature...the world is the corperate nature of Adam in a simular way that the church is the corperate nature of Christ this nature when in action can cause men to do what they would normaly constrain themselves from...consider Lot who had his soul vexed by living in sodom....or more modern mob mentality or peer pressure. With lion as a symbol of rule we are warned that giving heed to the world(corperate Adam) the flesh(our nature inherant from Adam) the devil(our perticular lust) will devour us if we do not stay seperate from it.
