That is the main mass that will affect the electrical power grid ...Those in charge of the distribution of the electricity will have to take the decision to cut the power few hours before the massive cloud of plasma hit to avoid the damage on the big transformers equipment or let it go and risk that the damage cause a black out for months due to damage...if they have not enough big transformers to replace those that will be destroyed by the electrical overcharge.... it took 8 or 9 hours to replace the two who were destroyed in Quebec ....if a third have been destroyed we would have been in deep trouble for weeks ...because the electric power distribution companies usually have in stock [for replacement/Spare ]only one or two of that piece of equipment at the price of 1,2 million $$$ each.

As a retired science teacher with an interest in astronomy and nuclear physics, I have one concern about this idea of a CME being a fulfillment of Bible prophecy.

Is the "Day of the Lord" when He "comes as a thief" found in 1 Thessalonians chapters 4 and 5, and 2 Peter 3:10, and Revelation 16:15-16, a natural event limited to the ordinary laws of physics, or is it a supernatural event orchestrated by the One who walked upon the surface of the water?

Do you want to see some action with hail and fire coming from Heaven, it will happen at the First Trumpet Revelation 8:7 and will affect 1/3 of the Earth....upon the countries who reject Jesus : ie Muslims...Judaism ...Boudhists---Hindu-...Their Countries where they live represent 1/3 of the Earth's surface [look at a World map where these countries who reject Jesus and the Gospel are located]...

There is no hail and fire coming from Heaven mentioned at the opening of the 6 Th Seal Revelation 6:12-14.....but at the First Trumpet Revelation 8:7....

The great multitude came out of great tribulation/not arrived in heaven before the great tribulation.

They are in His temple.
Read the end of Rev. 15 - because no man can enter into the temple -till the seven plagues of the seven angels are fulfilled.

The 7 trumpets must end before that great multitude can be in His temple.

The great tribulation ended in the 6th seal, but then was shown to John again after a new vision began in Rev. 7.

The whole period was the Great Tribulation. Millions died for 2000 years. Just because the Troubles in the 7 years is the GREATEST of them all doesn't mean those shown did not come from TRIBULATION.

If you understood the Rapture this wouldn't confuse you.

The great and terrible Day of the Lord's vengeance and wrath, Joel 2:30-31 and 100 + other prophesies, will come unexpectedly, like a thief. In contrast to the glorious Return of Jesus: that will happen exactly 1260 days after the Temple is desecrated by the Anti-Christ.
The Day of the Lord's wrath, will include fire, storms earthquakes and tsunamis. The whole world will be affected, Zephaniah 3:8, Isaiah 66:15-17, but mainly the Middle East region, as we are informed: Zephaniah 1:14-18, Ezekiel 30:1-5, Jeremiah 10:18 +
A Coronal Mass Ejection, a massive explosion of the sun, will cause all of these effects as it strikes the earth. Fortunately, as the earth travels at 66,000mph on its orbital track, most of the planet will just experience a glancing hit and most people will survive. A One World Govt will be established so as to regain control and order.

So to answer your question: It will be both a natural event, but one instigated and directed by the Lord. Psalms 11:4-6, Habakkuk 3:3-15 + He won't be seen on that Day.
This is so that people can still maintain their disbelief in God, but we Christians will know what it was and why it happened.

Since the word "sleep" is found in 1 Thessalonians 5:10, how do you separate 1 Thessalonians chapter 5 from chapter 4?

1Th 4:13　 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.　

1Th 4:14　 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

Therefore, the timing of the resurrection event in chapter 4 occurs on the Day of the Lord, when He comes as a thief.
