Obesity isn't natural. It's a sinful lifestyle choice.
That there is a "fat gene" is a myth perpetrated by the overweight elite media.
Love the sinner, hate the sin.
Etc.
Not only are you horribly wrong, but that is such an ill-informed comment. I can't believe people STILL think that way!
Hypothyroidism
As many as 10% of American women have some sort of thyroid hormone deficiency. Hypothyroidism is a condition where the thyroid (which is control of the bodies metabolism) does not create enough hormones. Which causes weight gain.
Again, the thyroid, which is control of the bodies metabolism, does not create the hormones needed for proper digestion of food and storage of calories, fast enough for you to burn them off. So, they're stored as fat.
Several symptoms of hypothyroid problems are:
Fatigue
Weakness
Weight gain or increased difficulty in losing weight
Coarse hair
Dry skin
Hair loss
Cold intolerance
Muscle cramps, or weak muscles
Constipation
Depression
Irritability
Memory loss
Abnormal menstrual cycles
Decreased libido
Cushing's Syndrome
This is a disorder of the adrenal glands (they are located on top of the kidneys) which causes an excess of cortisol secretion.
Symptoms include:
Upper Body Obesity
Rounded face
Increased fat around the neck
Children tend to be
obesed with slow growth rate.
Psedohypoparathyroidism
This is a hereditary condition caused by a lack of response to parathyroid hormone. Caused by abnormal genes.
Symptoms include:
Short stature
Obesity
Short metacarpals(the bone between your knuckles on your hand and the first knuckle on your fingers themselves)
Ectopic calcification
Prader-Willi Syndrome
Genetic disorder caused by an abnormality on chromosome 15. Not an inherited (you dont get it from your parents) condition but a spontaneous genetic birth defect.
Symptoms include:
Short stature
Mental retardation
Learning disabilities
Incomplete sexual development
Low muscle tone
Involuntary urge to eat constantly, coupled with a reduced need for calories which causes OBESITY.
Laurence-Moon-Biedl Syndrome
Autosomal recessive condition. (which means there is a mutation in both copies of the gene.)
Symptoms include:
Mental Retardation
Retinitis Pigmentosa
Hypogonadism
Spastic paraplegia
OBESITY
Polydactyly
Cataract
Squint
Renal abnormalities
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)
A health problem that can effect a womans menstrual cycle, fertility, insulin production, heart, blood vessels, and appearance.
Characteristics are:
High levels of androgens (
which can cause weight gain)
Irregular or no menstrual cycle
May or may not have cysts within the ovaries.
Symptoms are:
Infrequent menstrual periods, no menstrual periods, and/or irregular bleeding.
Infertility.
Increased hair growth on the face, chest, stomach, back, thumbs, or toes.
Acne, oily skin.
Pelvic pain.
Weight gain or obesity, usually carrying extra weight around the waist
Type 2 Diabetes
High Colesterol
High Blood pressure
Male-pattern baldness
Patches of thickened dark brown or black skin on the neck, arms, breasts or thighs.
Skin tags.
Sleep apnea.
And last but not least, menopause. Going through menopause can cause serious weight gain, as well as hair growth on the chin and chest and several other problems.
But, I guess these problems (only a few of MANY) which are beyond the control of those who are afflicted with them, are just part of a "sinful lifestyle choice". And I suppose that the fact that there is scientific evidence of obesity being caused in part by genes is just total crap. And that all the problems I listed are "myth(s) perpetrated by the overweight elite media".
What a horribly ill-informed, close-minded, totally damaging statement to make.
Nothing infuriates me more then someone who (apparently) has no medical or scientific background to talk of makes such a horrific assumption. If you know nothing about a subject then it would be wise to keep your mouth shut rather then open it and make yourself look like a complete idiot.
