Whether you believe it or not is totally up to you, but I know first-hand how bad it hurts to be looked down upon. Not simply looked down upon, but despised, ostracized, assaulted, and demoralized.

Well, I guess some people have a misunderstanding as to the true intent behind this thread so let me spell it out:

The OP was trying to make an analogy between being gay and being fat to make a point that certain Christians in this country pick and select which 'sinners' to persecute.

Since gluttony of unhealthy foods tend to induce obesity in otherwise healthy people (everyone can agree on that, right?), the OP was saying that anti-gay Christians would need to also put down gluttony-induced 'fat' people as well as 'gay' people, especially since gluttony of (fatty) foods tends to lead to obesity. And since there are more gluttony-induced obese people than homosexuals in this country, the OP is asking why is the sin of gluttony-induced obesity not the main target of the Christian Right, but homosexuals is?

There, we got that little misunderstanding out of the way....

Uhm, I don't have much to contribute to the OP, except to add that most people in this country are fat because they overindulge in unhealthy food. Yes, there are people with medical conditions that make them fat (including my aunt), but they are the exceptions, not the rule. Most people are overweight not because they have a medical condition beyond their control, or have a "fat gene", but because they eat too much unhealthy junk food and do not do enough exercise to compensate.

Look at the Europeans or the Japanese, they are statistically skinner than Americans, and obesity is less rampant in their country---is it because Americans are collectively suffering from some kind of disease that makes us fat? Are Americans genetically more prone to having medical conditions that make us fat? Is it something our food or drinking water that makes us fat?

Or is it that Americans tend to eat more unhealthy foodstuff and exercise less than their industrial nation counterparts?

Hmm....and isn't it interesting that the proportion of fat people decreases in less developed nations, even in places where food is not a problem, but certainly not as cheap as it is in this country? Could it be that...most people are obese because they EAT TOO MUCH UNHEALTHY FOOD AND DO NOT EXERCISE?!

So to answer the OP's question, gluttony is a sin, it is a choice made by the eater, and it is directly responsible for the increasing girth of this nation (hehehe), the fact that no one has decided to focus on persecuting gluttony induced fat people, instead focusing on a much smaller population of gays seems unfair as it singles out one group of sinners over another.

And oh yeah....obesity related disease kills more people in this country than any 'gay' disease. Hmmm......

Deu 11:32 says that the law must be obeyed! DEU 21:18-21 SAYS THAT GLUTTONY IS PUNISHABLE BY DEATH!!

It was disobedience to his parents that was the violation of law . Youll not find gluttony amoung any of the 613 laws God gave for the knowledge of sin .

I have, and your right... more or less. A Somoan baby is one big baby. However, a healthy Samoan is generally large and muscular, rather than fat. They are big, strong people when they take care of themselves and big, fat people when they don't. At least that's the case with everyone of them I've ever met....

Before you ask, I lived in Hawaii for 2 years and hung out with a lot of locals. I was also involved in a church that had frequent visitors from other islands. There is a Somoan shortage, unfortunately, but you can tell who has Somoan blood and who doesn't. It's pretty obvious.

There is no word for "homosexuality," in the original Greek, but you find lots of verses on that. Perhaps you should try actually reading some of the verses. At least one mentions gluttony explicitly, and others refer to it through context and synonyms.

Actually you are who is misrepresenting both the verses where the word is used and also mispresenting my words . I'll accept your word that it was a mistake, but you have to understand how having a Christian make a major textual mistake with the bible looked to me at the time.

But the bible does mention glutony as a sin, and the passage from ezekiel does include it, although not by the name "gluttony." Perhaps you're not familiar with the terminology, but I guarentee, it's there plain as day.

Then I don't think you understand the point of this thread. This thread is not about gluttony or obesity at all, as I and others have already mentioned. It's about homosexuality and many people's constant biting attacks on it, including yours.

The New Testament calls gluttony a sin too, you know. Even if it wasn't a sin in the Old testament, it's the New Testament that Christians define their faith with. How do you argue against that?
