  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The 10 Commandments are done away!

we need Christ because we deserve death for sinning!

the law simply expresses the way in which one should walk.

we've all sinned, ergo, we need to be saved from the penalty of sinning. once our sins are forgiven, then we do what paul referred to and establish the law simply by keeping it.

so do you believe that the law expresses God's way?

what is this suppose to mean?
1 John chapter 1 verse 8
If anyone claims to be without sin they deceive themselves and the truth is not in them.
James chapter 2 verse 10
If anyone keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.

James chapter 2 verse 10

The first part of 1 John is written to unbelievers (non-Christians). 1 John 1:3 makes this perfectly clear: "We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ." In verse 8 the author is saying that if you aren't a Christian and you claim to be without sin you deceive yourself.

James 2:8-9 says "If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture, “Love your neighbor as yourself, you are doing right. But if you show favoritism, you sin and are convicted by the law as lawbreakers." If you aren't acting according to the Holy Spirit by loving your neighbor you are putting yourself back under the law, which tells you right from wrong.

so you don't believe that the law expresses God's ways?
Galatians chapter 4

21 Tell me, you who want to be under the law, are you not aware of what the law says? 22 For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by the slave woman and the other by the free woman. 23 His son by the slave woman was born according to the flesh, but his son by the free woman was born as the result of a divine promise.

24 These things are being taken figuratively: The women represent two covenants. One covenant is from Mount Sinai and bears children who are to be slaves: This is Hagar. 25 Now Hagar stands for Mount Sinai in Arabia and corresponds to the present city of Jerusalem, because she is in slavery with her children. 26 But the Jerusalem that is above is free, and she is our mother. 27 For it is written:

“Be glad, barren woman,
you who never bore a child;
shout for joy and cry aloud,
you who were never in labor;
because more are the children of the desolate woman
than of her who has a husband.”[e]

28 Now you, brothers and sisters, like Isaac, are children of promise. 29 At that time the son born according to the flesh persecuted the son born by the power of the Spirit. It is the same now. 30 But what does Scripture say? “Get rid of the slave woman and her son, for the slave woman’s son will never share in the inheritance with the free woman’s son.”[f] 31 Therefore, brothers and sisters, we are not children of the slave woman, but of the free woman.

This is what I believe we should do.
1 Peter chapter 4
8 Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.
Jeremiah chapter 22
16 He defended the cause of the poor and needy,
and so all went well.
Is that not what it means to know me?”
declares the Lord.

It may express God's ways but we can't live up to it, nor are we to try to, we're just to love, no matter how hard you try to obey the law you will always fail, and if you try to keep the law your a slave to sin, because that's what's controlling you.

Agreed! But we must do it by the Spirit, as our sinful nature isn't up to the task. The law showed us that it's impossible to do the above on our own.

It may express God's ways but we can't live up to it,
you're correct. Jesus even said so.

Mat 19:26
26 But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible;

but it's the rest of the verse that gives us hope:

but with God all things are possible
.

it's the help of Christ that will accomplish this for us - see gal 2:20!

nor are we to try to,
not so, according to Jesus! (see matt 5:48)

we're just to love,
yes, that's what i always hear, and yet look at the world (see rom 3:17)!

no matter how hard you try to obey the law you will always fail,
again, correct!

and if you try to keep the law your a slave to sin,
this statement makes no sense!

if you keep the law, you're doing what is pleasing to God!

you're only a slave to sin if that's what you're all about - sinning that is.
remember paul said:

Rom 7:7
7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid...

the law is not sin and we as christians should stop framing it that way.

because that's what's controlling you.
it's sin that controls one!

1 Timothy chapter 1 verse7, 8
They want to be teachers of the law but they do not know what they are talking about or what they so confidently affirm.
We know that the law is good if one uses it properly.
Galatians chapter 3 verses 24,25,23
So the law was put in charge to lead us to Christ that we might be justified by faith. Now that faith has come, we are no longer under the supervision of the law. Before this faith came, we were held prisoners by the law, locked up until faith should be revealed.

We know for a fact the law continues because this is in the future.
Zechariah 14:16 And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles.

What does this have to do with the law continuing? There is no mention of it in the one Old Testament verse that you cite.

ok.

can you answer this?

in a prophecy that's yet future, Isaiah wrote:

Isaiah 2:3(NKJV)
3 Many people shall come and say, “Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, To the house of the God of Jacob; He will teach us His ways, And we shall walk in His paths.” For out of Zion shall go forth the law, And the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.

what law will go forth from zion?
