2Co 3:7 But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones (what was written and engraved in stones? THE 10 COMMANDMENTS), was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away:
2Co 3:8 How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather glorious?
2Co 3:9 For if the ministration of condemnation be glory (This is a reference to the 10 Commandments being the ministration of condemnation), much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory.
2Co 3:10 For even that which was made glorious had no glory in this respect, by reason of the glory that excelleth.
2Co 3:11 For if that which is done away was glorious (Paul clearly is saying the 10 commandments are DONE AWAY), much more that which remaineth is glorious.

This isn't the only place Paul addresses this

Gal 4:21 Tell me, ye that desire to be under the law, do ye not hear the law?
Gal 4:22 For it is written, that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a freewoman.
Gal 4:23 But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he of the freewoman was by promise.
Gal 4:24 Which things are an allegory: for these are the two covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage, which is Agar. (Paul says the first Covenant leads to bondage)
Gal 4:25 For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children.
Gal 4:26 But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all.
Gal 4:27 For it is written, Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not; break forth and cry, thou that travailest not: for the desolate hath many more children than she which hath an husband.
Gal 4:28 Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise.
Gal 4:29 But as then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, even so it is now.
Gal 4:30 Nevertheless what saith the scripture? Cast out the bondwoman (The Law) and her son (And those who follow it): for the son of the bondwoman (those who follow the law) shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman (those who follow Christ).
Gal 4:31 So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman (those who follow the law), but of the free.

Matthew 5:17 is very poorly written in English. Jesus was saying that he came to raise the standards of the law, not to lower them, but he didn't preach the Torah. If you think salvation is in the 10 commandments you have totally missed Jesus message: Jesus raised the standards of the law and replaced its teachings with a higher set of rules.[/QUOTE]

To say that the TEN commandments are "done away with" as in no use for anything is quite the stretch because the TEN commandments do one thing and one thing only, they point out what sin is. according to 1 John 3:4 sin is the transgression of the law. This is one of the two biblical definitions of what sin is. The never was a law that could save anybody. Laws are teachers, or warning signs.

Here is an example: when someone is driving down the road abiding by the speed limit of 55 does that law have any effect on that person? No it does not. Not until we are breaking the law does that law have any effect on us. The law condemns us and that is all, it is up to the judge to either give us grace by dismissing our case or throwing the book at us by punishing us to the full extent of that law. I ask you this WHAT HAPPENS TO THE LAW? The law is always there to show when we are doing wrong, and in the case of the bible the TEN commandments show us we are sinning.

Take the two laws that Jesus expounded upon. Love God with all your heart and your neighbor as yourself. IF we love God with all our heart would we be able to break any of the first four commandments? If we love our neighbor as ourselves would we be able to steal from them? Murder them? take their wife? covet their things? lie to them, bear false witness against them? dishonor our parents? Agape love encompasses all these, but if we find ourselves doing these things we are not in love, we do not have the love of God abiding in us. If we love our neighbor as ourselves it would be impossible to break one of the last six of the TEN commandments.

I have heard people say that all God's laws are "done away with". I ask them if they can stand up? and they stand up and I tell them they are keeping one of God's laws, the law of gravity. To say that the law is "done away" and believe the bible does not work because even though we are not saved by the law we will be judged by the law. God's holy just and good law is the only standard by which we will be judged. And we will be judged by our works according to John 12:48 & revelation 20:12&13.

The Christian will not be judged by the law.

24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. Jn 5
