That thing that Trump shouldn't have done...he did. Big surprise.

With competing Florida rallies Sunday, Trump and DeSantis preview a potential GOP presidential primary showdown | CNN Politics

The long simmering rivalry has spilled into public view during the final weeks leading into Election Day. At a Pennsylvania rally on Saturday, Trump took a direct swipe at DeSantis, and christened a new nickname for the governor, while declaring himself the front-runner in a hypothetical GOP primary.

“There it is, Trump at 71 (percent), Ron DeSanctimonious at 10 percent,” Trump told the crowd as he read alleged poll numbers off a screen.

DeSantis recently endorsed Republican businessman and Colorado Senate candidate Joe O’Dea, as O’Dea vowed in October to “actively campaign” against Trump.

“A BIG MISTAKE!” Trump wrote in response on his Truth Social platform.

Apart from the fact that "Ron DeSanctimonious" is the most clumsy and non-catchy nickname he's come up with yet (wouldn't Dirty DeSantis have been more catchy??), maybe the GOP will come to their senses on this one. I've heard several conservative pundits (in particular Steven Crowder and Shapiro) say something to the effect of "Even if you want to run in 2024, fine, but don't kneecap DeSantis and make people hate him, we'll need him in 2028".

It would appear he didn't get that memo.

Although, when it comes to an actual primary involving having to get on a debate stage, I think DeSantis would eat him alive...but this definitely highlights that shortsightedness of Trump's ego. For those who honestly thought Trump put values and party over personal gratification, this should be your wakeup call.

That's what Trump does. He decimates any perceived opponents then later accepts them as allies. He did the same thing with "Little Rocket Man" and "Lyin' Ted" Cruz.

The timing is amazingly bad, though. If Trump manages to cost DeSantis the election, DeSantis isn't going to be much of an ally for Trump.

Pfft. A proper sentiment, Mr. Rob, but it has seemed to me over time that for many of his loyalists, behavior of Trump's such as that depicted in the OP is a positive thing that keeps them rooting for him, not a flaw or a grievance.

Trump cares nothing for the party, he proved this by breaking the Reagan rule and getting nasty with the other Republicans in the 2016 primary. This is just more of the same. If you're running against him, he will try to destroy you, period. That's why he threatened to run as an independent if they wouldn't let him into the debates in 2016. I think he'll do that again.

Oh i bet the democrats are praying Trump runs as an independent. It would really split the republican vote.

One of those two will be the next president of the United States.

Not if the republican vote gets split and one faction is bitter and stays home...

Reading most of comments here it seems people have falling for the lefts talking points to pit Republicans against one another, folks don't fall for this garb!! Desantis and Pres. Trump are friends and will remain friends. Politics is a tough game and people best shed their thin skin and put the armor of GOD on for the fiery darts of Satan on gonna come thick and heavy. I love what Desantis has done with Florida but that is a state he has not been on a world stage where no matter who runs for the Republican side; you have corporate America who own corporate media who will make up lies and false accusations to literally destroy you monetarily and spiritually. Pres. Trump has been the only one with the backbone and money to take on the deep state that is trying to destroy this country from within. It is called globalism taking over by the 1st beast of 1 world socialist/communist political party of (Rev 13:1 And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy.). We are very close to 2nd beast taking over (Rev 13:12 And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.) Prepare patriots and Christians by (Eph 6:11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.) For we are not wrestling against man in this hour of temptation but against (Ephesians 6:12For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.) The 1/3rd that fallowed Satan in the 1st age are here in this generation of the Fig tree where all prophecy will be fulfilled.

Don't fall for what? Trump's actual words?

Even Fox News is covering it
Trump mocks DeSantis at Pennsylvania rally: 'Ron DeSanctimonious'

They even have video of him saying it.

Desantis and Pres. Trump are friends and will remain friends.

If my friend had a gubernatorial election coming up in two days, I wouldn't be badmouthing him.

It is not 'the left's talking points'. There are real divisions in the Republican Party. And we hear it from Republicans.

Trump tears into rising Republican rival DeSantis

Mr Trump belittled his former political apprentice as an "average" governor, lacking in "loyalty". [the one unforgivable sin in Trump-land.]

In a lengthy statement on Thursday night, Mr Trump dismissed the Florida governor as a political lightweight who had come to him "in desperate shape" when running for his first term in office in 2017.

"Ron had low approval, bad polls, and no money, but he said that if I would Endorse [sic] him, he could win," Mr Trump said. "I also fixed his campaign, which had completely fallen apart."

He went on to complain that Mr DeSantis - whom he is nicknaming "Ron DeSanctimonious" - was "playing games" by refusing to rule out a presidential bid.

"Well, in terms of loyalty and class, that's really not the right answer," Mr Trump added.

Perhaps Trump should take a look at the numbers before referring to Ron as a "lightweight"

Even without some underlying aspects (that would make these numbers even more striking), even just a cursory glance shows a big difference

Ron won bigger in Florida...and by quite a bit.

And that's not even adjusting for the fact that Biden was more unpopular in Florida than Charlie Crist is/was.

The county maps actually show another interesting aspect, which is that Ron was able to win some Biden counties, and the only places where Trump outperformed him was in deep red counties where the impact is insignificant. A deep red, low population density county going from 95% GOP to 80% GOP has no impact on the final outcome...whereas someone keeping equally strong numbers in more populous counties, plus flipping Miami Dade from Blue to Red is a much bigger deal.

I never really understood the procedure for determining the candidate for President. Seems like they rip each other apart, even though they are on the same team.. Then, when all is said and done.. They're besty's again.... very odd.

I guess it is the best way to have the people choose who should run against the opposition.

In Canada, each party elects a leader to represent them as leader of the party. This happens at the federal and provincial levels of government. The members of the party get to vote. I do see debates and similar antics to what goes no in the US... but it lasts about a month.

I think that we had two federal elections and a provincial election in the two years that we were gifted with the campaigning and run up to one of your federal elections.

I just find it odd, for any selection process, for members of the same team to be critical of each other.

I think that you may see DT as president and Ron D as VP.

In the next two years, with the Republicans holding the house majority, I believe that you are going to see a lot of investigations into things that were hidden and covered up before. They will now have subpoena power.

They are going to ask a lot of people to answer for the last two years.

This will expose the corruption of the established politicians.. on both sides... Especially the high up members and the ones that are elected as republicans but are actually working for the democrat agendas.

There are a lot of people that see DT as a maverick that is outside the corruption of the establishment. This is why he is hated by democrats and older republicans. He is throwing a wrench into their well oiled machine.

IMO, DT is "for the people" where as the majority of elected governments of countries run by democracy.... woo the people to get votes and then dump on them as they work for the rich and powerful elite that put them in office.

Some of the things that they will be bringing the democrats to face are:

Hunters laptop
Political weaponization of the FBI
Fauci and the COVID-19 events
The tragedy of the Afghanistan withdrawal.
The ongoing border Crisis
The actions of the "oversight" committees

and more.

That's my opinion.

Yep, that's the GOP plan to address inflation. American can go to bet at night knowing the GOP committees are busy investigating Hunter
Sounds like a winning 2024 strategy!

If your government can only investigate one thing at a time... you're in trouble already..

Secondly.. sometimes investigating one poorly handled issue uncovers the real problem that affects numerous issues.

Where did I mention "hunger"?
