"Audiences and elite tastemakers alike have decided Taylor Swift’s narcissistic lyrics and cliched music are a cultural triumph — but why would we celebrate this?"

^_^

After the last 8 years of unrelenting narcissism, it is Taylor Swift's narcissism which which is leading to societal decline! The deflection is strong...

Oh man, there are so many foul entertainers, low class, nasty, etc, etc, etc. Finally a cleancut good girl, talented setting an excellent example. I can't believe you could say what your saying in comparison. I am now at a loss for words. This is what the world is coming to? I won't be back. I feel ill.

81,000 IRS agents coming for the swiftie's

I see it more as a decline in quality music. When there's a choice between the "swiftie" channel (teen pop music), cheezy country, and the "classic" (it used to be called "oldies" until my generation became the "oldies")rock station, like Jack 92.9, the literal 'sound of silence ' is preferred.
I was a prog rock fan in days of my yute.

If the guy had taken a swipe at what passes for pop music in general these days then I'd probably agree. But then I'd probably agree whatever decade he picked. There's dross in every era. In fact, it's mostly dross. And you always had to listen to a lot of it before the station would play something worth listening to.

But Taylor Swift? Hey, she's not my cup of tea but the woman is a talented song writer and, from what I've seen and heard, an excellent performer and very good singer. And the writer comparing her to Lennon and McCartney was a cheap shot.

If you want to listen to someone who really knows what he's talking about when deconstructing today's music then you have to listen to this guy.

Taylor committed the one crime that must be punished by the Conservisphere - she encouraged young people to register and vote.

Music like Taylor Swift, is meant to make money from kids who have very little developed music aesthetic. It appeals to emotions in most cases and not beauty of sound/music.

He's just mad because Swift is encouraging young people to register to vote, and most of them aren't going to vote Republican. So they are mad, instead of being self-critical and asking why young people wouldn't want to vote for them in the first place.

All music appeals to emotions - the alternative would be appealing to reason, and I just can't see how that would work. An appreciation for the beauty of music is still an emotional response, and beautiful music comes in all forms and styles.

I missed in that video where he mentions a Swift song. Yes, I have watched this guy before, and I take it all with a grain of salt because to me music is in the ear of the beholder....meaning that something not well constructed musically or vocally to some is bad, but great to others. We all like what we like regardless of what others say. I've been paying attention to the British guy Wings of Pegasus because he concentrates on auto tune and pitch correction. To me this shows who has real talent as opposed to processed talent. I will admit that I have never consciously heard a Taylor Swift song, and probably never will...but this is not about her talent, but rather the attacks on her for being a star who happens to get people to register to vote.
