How about Russian military sources?

Earlier in February, a soldier with Luhansk volunteer forces reported 16,000 Russian troops dead/wounded beyond ability to return to combat since October for Avdiikva alone. Another Russian milblogger source estimated 31,000 to 38,000 total casualties in the battle for the city, with 12,000 to 14,000 KIA.

OSINT loss tracking puts visually confirmed losses of Russian armour - AFVs, artillery and tanks - around Avdiikva since October at just over 800 destroyed. Given that nearly 1/2 of those are IFVs, that translates into lots of troop losses.


OSINT estimates are that Russian forces lost just under 900 armoured vehicles of all kinds in January across the entire front, and almost 2400 vehicles total. That would make January the second worst month of the entire war for Russia.

But, loss estimates for February are even worse.

Going by Ukrainian estimates (so caveats for over claiming/accuracy), February will be the heaviest month for Russian losses in terms of vehicles, aircraft and manpower of the entire conflict. Ukrainian claims about Russian equipment losses are three to four times that of early 2023 - over 100 vehicles per day for the last 30 days - while manpower loss claims are more than double.

Put another way - in the last 60 to 70 days, Russian forces have likely lost the entire stock of heavy armour than was produced/reactivated in all of 2023.

Looks like winning to me.

Sorry, as I said, Reuters and other media are much more credible than Russian trolls on social media. Even pro-Russian military bloggers are pointing out the massive losses that Russians have sustained in Ukraine. Do you think no one has noticed that Putin is pulling WWII model tanks out of museums to replace losses?

That's the rub. Putin has declared his intention to restore the Soviet Empire. He sees Ukraine, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Poland, and all the other nations of Eastern Europe as breakaway provinces of the Russian imperium. And his goal is to get them back.
