Interesting point. White college kids use marijuana and sell marijuana at the same or higher rates than black kids of a similar age cohort. Yet a black kid is FAR more likely to be arrested and sentenced to prison for the same drug offense.

Why do you think that is?

There’s hundreds of colleges that will accept anyone who can pay the tuition.

Can they pay the tuition? Do they get the resources to help them with applying to college?

I can contrast my own experience with applying to college at a well-funded, high-achieving public school with my mother's experience at a low-performing school. Granted, there's 30 years of separation between our experiences, but it's only gotten more difficult to get into college, so if anything, the experiences of someone in her position now would be worse.

My mom's school had hardly anyone go to college. As she tells it, she didn't get any information about schools until she went to her counselor and asked. Then she received incorrect information - and very little of it. She was told she didn't need to take the SAT, for example. Her parents (my grandparents) didn't go to college, so they didn't really know what to do either, despite being fully supportive of her efforts. In the end, she went to a local state school - which accepted anyone from the state - despite being academically far more qualified because she missed a bunch of deadlines and never took the SAT.

In contrast, my school started pushing college information at me my freshman year. I took the PSAT twice (freshman and sophomore year) before taking the SAT my junior year and received plenty of advice on other tests I could take and which ones would be best for the schools I was interested in. We had college info nights, where admissions counselors from many colleges - local and across the country - came to speak to us and distribute information. Honestly, it was almost an overload of information.

Yes, there's a lot of information out there on the internet, but it's difficult to sort through on your own if you don't know what you're looking for. And many children don't think they can go to college in the first place, whether that's due to finances or because they don't think they're smart enough.

Well seeing that there’s no reason why they would be forbidden to attend college I would think that in most cases they didn’t want to do what is necessary to accomplish the task. Surely they’re not all applying for colleges and being denied. There’s hundreds of colleges that will accept anyone who can pay the tuition.

For me, the biggest single "a ha" moment was understanding exactly how privileged I was to be born a white, cis-gender, straight male in a largely white community. It's like asking a fish how water feels. It just is. When I started reading more and listening more I began to realize that even SIMPLE things that I take for granted...things that MAKE SENSE aren't allowed to some.

Recently a town hall was held at my work and we had various black executives in the company talk about how even to this day they are followed through stores, they get stopped for random things by the police, one guy was even handcuffed and put on the ground for something. These are EXECUTIVES in a Fortune 50 company! It's not like these were some gang bangers riding around in low-lows.

The other day as I was driving home from my once a week outing to a store I was pulled over by a cop because I went through a yellow light. The last time I was pulled over by a cop was 40 years ago (yup, 40) when I was speeding shortly after I got my license. 2 stops in 40 years, both legit calls. I got a warning this time.

I essentially blundered through my early life without even thinking about what I get for free by just showing up white.

But, in the end, all my experiences are anecdotal and I don't trust anecdotes. A lifetime as a research scientist has taught me that I can easily be fooled by my own "impressions" of one or two examples. That is why I love statistical analyses. It peels away the layers and gives me a view of whether a problem is real or not. And systemic racism in the US is very, very real.

Yes there are several sources for tuition available to ALL AMERICANS regardless of color. There is also the United Negro College Fund that is exclusive to blacks. And of course I’ve already mentioned the military option.

The reality is that African-Americans have a higher percentage of single-parent households. There are multiple causes for this, but the important thing to remember is that many of those causes are self-perpetuating. Simply saying that black women should get married isn't a solution

The problem is that what you have just posted is not recognised and as a result the solution is not taught.

Dr Walter Williams a black economist wrote, ' escaping poverty is not rocket science. There are four steps.
Finish one's education.
Wait until married to have children. ( Yes that often means no sex )
Get a job and work at it.
Stay out of crime.

Yeah, yeah it does. People actually are affected by the expectations society puts on them. I'm sure you've read Ibram Kendi's book "How to be an Antiracist". In that he describes his experience in mixed race classrooms. How it is possible to completely disengage a young person from life-long education by simply ignoring them for years in the classroom.

Well I still fail to see the relevance of this to the discussion and being an expert in this area I can say from personal experience that I’ve never been caught by a police officer with marijuana in my possession and didn’t get arrested. I got caught 3 times and I was arrested 3 times.

The stats I was looking at for 2013 showed that white on white murder was slightly higher than black on white murder and that white on black murder was there but was so low as to be almost unnoticeable.
In contrast the black on black murder rate was 50 times greater.

Racism in employment will be a problem, the whole campaign is not effective rallies and marches don't change people's opinions. That takes education and political action.

If reason is going to be used to re educate the western world, just what is it to be based upon.
Evolution in the writings of it founder is profundity racist. So what does that leave us.
I 'm biased as I would advocate Christianity, simple because it is the only philosophical system that has equality at its heart.

What would you recommend.

Yes but whites make up 60% of the American population whereas blacks make up 12% and the numbers between the two groups despite their huge difference in population are almost identical. Whites on Whites at 2,677 vs black on blacks at 2,600 in 2018. So despite there being 5 times more whites the number of black on black crimes is almost the same amount as white on white crimes meaning that black on black crimes happen 5 times more often.
