There is a 1631 edition of the King James that accidentally omits Not from the ban on adultery.
Bible that says 'Thou shalt commit adultery' goes on sale
A 1000 copies were printed and the error was only spotted a year after it was printed.
Yeah, I’ve heard of that Bible, it’s known as the “evil Bible,” however it was a simple copyist error and almost immediately recognized as an error. I’d hardly say it omits adultery it’s more of a simple although embarrassing mistake.

Yep, but reading Herberts posts, his copy definitely seems to be missing the Not on at least one commandment.

I said nothing about reporting them. But nowadays employers check social media, and any other information they can get their hands on. Would you hire/employ someone with these views?

Actually I don't think most do, because I think many simply don't want to know. But oh, there are plenty of Puritans who want to make SURE they employers know when people stray from their strictures on Moral Purity. That's what this thread is about--not only the awful thing the woman said, but the Witch Hunt that ensued.

And to think: liberals used to call themselves free thinkers and tolerant. Anything but! However, some of us understand this.

I had heard that the woman in question has said the quote was taken out of context. She had said it came from a wider discussiond in which she was being facetious and parodying anti immigration people.

I haven't seen anything beyond the stand alone quote, but frankly, absent other information I can accept that explantation. Many of us on this forum have made some pretty damning statements while being sarcastic in an expression of frustration.

The bolded section is why Democrats have actually lost the middle class, and are now losing minority voters.

Just so we're working with the same numbers, here's the median personal income for working adults:
Personal income in the United States - Wikipedia

I post those to show that the middle class isn't being threatened by illegal immigrants, particularly not the upper half of the middle class. If anything, the middle class is propped up by illegal immigrants, because the middle class buy the goods and services that the illegal immigrants provide (at a cheaper price than they otherwise would be). If the middle class feels threatened by immigrant workers, it's mostly due to something other than an actual threat to their livelihood.

Rather, it's the poor and less-educated who are truly threatened by immigrant workers.

Republicans love capitalism and free markets, right? Open borders and labor mobility are hallmarks of that. Tight border regulations amount to protectionism.

Well, she's a pretty looking lady but she's still an ugly one on account of her attitude.

Her attitude certainly is ugly ... but at the same time I feel compelled to point out that I hope her personal information remains private (I assume so because of the part that said her "Facebook page remains untraceable", if it means what I think it does). Because the backlash for such awful commentary on the Internet as hers is can be much worse than the initial offense itself.

But who am I kidding. If this is the Internet, death threats have likely already happened to her. Again, though, certainly not excusing her rhetoric.

Well I wouldn't want her to be doxxed, but I don't think that's really applicable here. From what I understand, she made the Facebook post under her real name, with her real picture, had her employee info on her page. She put it all out there, including the post. She chose to not be private. There's a ton of sites that publish all our info rather we like it or not, giving out everybody's full name, address, age, phone number & the like. You have to opt out of a lot of them, otherwise you're automatically opted in. There's a ton of sites like that. So I doubt her info was already private.

I can't feel sorry for her for the criticism, but I do share your hope that the backlash doesn't get way out of hand. She doesn't deserve to live in fear, worry about any family members if they live with her, on account of threats of violence.

I'm not sure what you think that page shows...

What exactly were we supposed to be looking at in that page?

I was attempting to establish what the middle class actually is in order to support my contention that, unless illegals make way more money than I think they do, they're not competing with the middle class. They're competing with the poor.

I don't think the wikipedia page shows the data quite as clearly as I would like. One of the sources for one of the charts does it better:

The median wage for a f/t worker in the US is about $45,000 ($881/wk), with men ages 45-54 being the highest-paid group at almost $60,000 ($1,150). Source

Gotcha...I would suggest looking at how they calculate the "poverty level"....it's a weird number 20k+. It's supposed to represent the money it would take to not starve to death and put a roof over your head...on average.

The poverty rate many argue should be around 45k a year.

Yeah, I think there are a number of lenses through which to view these numbers. I don't know what the poverty rate should be, but I'm inclined to agree that it should be higher than what it is. My gut reaction is that $45k sounds a bit too high, but who knows - for certain urban areas, that could very well be reasonable. And if you want to account for kid$...

Something else that I think it suggests is that a lot of people are poorer than they think they are. IME, most people would look at $22/hr and think that's a pretty decent wage, or they'd look at $30/hr and think it's really good, when that's really just middle of the road based on those numbers. I'm pretty confident in saying that the vast majority of people I know who aren't salaried don't make anywhere near those numbers.

But however you want to define "poor" or "middle class", I think it's safe to say that illegals are competing with folks on the lower end of the spectrum.

I don't disagree with you...I just don't understand why you say it like it's not a concern. Imagine if I told you...

"I'm not worried about policy xyz, it's only gonna hurt the poor."

Would you think that's a good reason to dismiss other people's worries? The poor in this nation are at least 30 million people....and most people struggle with poverty at some point in their lives.

I just don't see it. Let me ask you, seriously, do the poor have the worst schools? Do they have the worst health outcomes? Least opportunities? Most problems with drugs and violent crimes?

Why would we ever....ever...think it's a good idea to just keep piling more poor people on that problem instead of fixing it?

I understand the way liberals think about illegal immigration. They look at what the rhetoric from the right is, and think that the conservative argument is all about racism, xenophobia, and nationalistic pride. For many on the left, that's reason enough to oppose any real control on illegal immigration.

Bad arguments on the right don't make the opposite position automatically good. Most people on the left understand there's a problem with the way we treat the poor. Income inequality is a problem. Social services are a problem. Our public education and health systems are a mess. Too many families have too much debt, too many families are living paycheck to paycheck. These are all realities the left agrees with....

So how does one justify letting half a million poor from other nations creep across the border every year? Do you honestly believe that they're contributing more than they're taking? They aren't just poor...they have nothing, they don't speak the language, they have less education than the poor from our nation. You can't genuinely believe they're doing anything other than making the problems related to poverty worse...

Illegal immigration shouldn't even be a partisan issue. Anyone with a brain should be opposed to it...there's no good argument for letting it continue.

Her comments were terrible. But this does make me wonder about the use of Facebook comments to terminate people from employment. Yes, some things that people say are stupid and cruel, and should be reprimanded for that. If not let go. However. Is posting a comment on Facebook the same thing as making a rude or violent comment at work, while on the clock?

Oh and by the way, the FBI has taken a huge hit. Did you read what Lisa Page said about the March for Life and women that want to have their own babies?

FBI discredited to a large degree, btw. You want the numbers on that?
