The thing is, racism today is largely subconscious. People may not be actively thinking that they do t want to hire or promote a person of color, but we can clearly see that people of color are not represented proportionally in positions of power. In workplaces where there is a “back of the house” and “front of the house,” you see that the front of the house, where the wages are higher, is often majority white and the back of the house is majority POC. CEO’s are disproportionately white, as is the Republican side of Congress.

So we can see the effects of racism even if we are not conscious of all of our biases.

Which has nothing to do with the fact that black people only make up 13% of the US populace.

If I fill a bowl with 100 M&M's, and 87 of them are red, and I start eating them, I expect that my hand will contain far more red M&M's at any given moment.

As a black man, let me tell you a secret. Y'all white folks are being trolled. Big time. At least that is how my circle of brothers see it. We here stuff like this and laugh about how dumb things are getting. My cousin brags all the time about how many white folks he made uncomfortable by pretending to be offended by the dumbest things. The only people who actually believe this woke garbage is white people.
There are black people that feel the same in regards to certain neighbourhoods.
Does that seem weird to you? That some black people don't want to go into white neighbourhoods?

I would be inclined to definitely agree with your description of racist. It is, essentially, how their "handlers" have guided them into that belief.

I forgot to add that there are white neighborhoods I'm not welcome in also. There's one a mile from me that I wouldn't set foot in. I had to drive through there a few years back looking for one of my dogs. I probably had a hundred guns pointed my direction.

Some white people ;). Some off this stuff is a bit silly and over the top, but I think we can all agree that it’s good to have a counter balance against the sort of racism that is still all to evident in society.

I don't understand that at all. Are you saying that if a black man makes more money than I do he is racist? Could it possibly be that he worked harder, had a better education? Should I be given what he earned so we can be equal?
No, not at all. Individual differences are to be expected. It’s the huge disparities across the board that point to a problem.

It is an undisputed fact that white people hold far more wealth on average than black people. It is also an undisputed fact that white people hold proportionally more positions of power. If you say that blacks are not inherently inferior to whites, than what explains their lack of wealth and power? Clearly something is causing this disparity.

1. On March 10 CBS This Morning interviewed two black authors. Near the end of the segment they put up a graphic of a list of words that start with black with the word black in bold
and the word racism in large letters in the background.
My main point is that the woke left exacerbate the very thing they claim to be fighting against. For the most part, from what I've seen, moderate left wingers usually just turn a blind eye, severely downplay these incidents or they will sometimes even defend these people either by directly defending them or by redirecting attention away from them, usually by using a whataboutism directed toward the right wing or they will attack the messanger, usually by using the poisoning the well fallacy. Only a few on the left like Sam Harris and Bill Maher seem willing to call these people out. Basically those who are too big to be "canceled". From what I've seen it's mostly those on the right that call them out.

Thought?

That my friend is a breath of fresh air in these current times!

Between the Black communities that you can’t safely walk through and the White communities Black people can’t safely walk through, which is a more universally desirable place to be? Which has the better job opportunities, better security, and better infrastructure?

The problem is time. Whites have been here freely for way longer. Because of slavery blacks haven't had the time it takes to build wealth in mass numbers. Blacks are more than capable of earning a good living. There are plenty of examples. Nobody has to be given anything.

A mile from my house is a low income place and a big trailer park. They have zero job opportunities and no security. Plus the place is run down. It is probably 99 percent white. I am only guessing but I would say the average education level is also pretty low.

I said represented proportionately. Blacks make up only 1% of Fortune 500 CEO’s and only 3% of executive positions. The wealth gap between black and white families is even more staggering. Whites hold 10x the wealth of blacks in our country.

Why do you think this is?

https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2020/06/04/economic-divide-black-households/

There are only four black CEOs in the Fortune 500

Why so many black business professionals are missing from the C-suite

Right! But if blacks are more than capable of earning a good living, why aren’t they able to achieve that? There are plenty of white people who were born working class and are now making really good money or are in positions of great power. Why is there still such a huge disparity?

I don't think you'd actually want to hear my answer, nor would you give it any weight.

Saying things like "whites hold 10x the wealth" makes it falsely seem as though all or even most white people are wealthy, or at least well-off. And that isn't the case. There are millions of white families in the U.S. living in abject poverty. And there are blacks who are successful and wealthy. That alone is evidence that the problem is not "systemic racism" but rather failures in other areas, such as education. Areas that have nothing to do with race, and everything to do with money and the proper appropriation of resources.

Appalachian Poverty.

Sure, and the unwelcoming Black communities? I’d venture to guess that they’re just as destitute if not more so. Now, maybe you can find a black neighborhood that’s marginally better-off than another specific white neighborhood. That’s to be expected. What you’re neglecting to acknowledge is the fact that there are far more opportunity-filled white communities that are unwelcoming or unsafe for Black people than vice versa. So the fact that there are poor white communities doesn’t really speak to the overall existence of systemic racism in this respect.
Moreover, investing in these communities by funding better infrastructure and social programs would help to lift both types of these dangerous-to-outsiders neighborhoods out of poverty, but that gets called “Marxist” and “socialism” by detractors. It’s too bad, because we wouldn’t have to do this whole “white people are poor too, therefore no racism” dance if more people would support these changes.

First off it's the lack of entry level employment same reason why there are so many poor whites. We lost millions of manufacturing jobs to China and other places. Those were middle class jobs. That would have given many the opportunity to pay for a better education for their children and given the kids a leg up. It's hard to go from poor to rich in one generation.

The woke crowd needs to be more like the rest of us. The majority of people see others as just other people. They don't see color. We base our opinions on the persons actions not the color of their skin.

I agree that "not seeing colour" is a very positive characteristic but I am also convinced that you were overly optimistic in claiming that such people constitute a majority. Most people fail to recognize their own prejudices be they racial or not. When I hear someone say "You know that I don't have a racist bone in my body but ------", I know instantly that I am about to hear something that is overtly racist.

Let's bring those manufacturers back and let people work for a living. Nobody worth anything wants a hand out.

Interesting. I once had an African American who worked for me. His grammar was, for the sake of argument, perfect. He was educated, a Conservative, and a devout Christian; and he was somewhat of a comedian, always cracking jokes. Everyone at work liked him. His mother was white, and his African American wife worked in a sensitive area of the US Government.

He lived in an area that was almost all white. He told me that for laughs he would go to an upscale shopping mall with is wife, and that he would loudly speak Ebonics, to watch the white people side step him, and to see the reactions on their faces. I asked him how his wife felt about this.

I felt sorry for his wife.
