  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Blessings this Christmas to my Senior Eagle friends. So sorry to hear of your husband's passing, Musical Pilgrim, but rejoicing that he is whole again. It's comforting to me to think that my husband is standing 'amazed in the presence of Jesus the Nazarene'.

Praying God's comfort for you and your family at this time.

Gillian

I really missed the communion service at Church, I went with my young friend and her little girl to the Christingle service.
I was so thrilled when I tuned in to Premier Christian radio and they had a midnight communion service, carols and liturgy, wow, so good. A real Blessing. Thank you Lord.
It's amazing how the Lord provides; thank you God. So glad you enjoyed the service musicalpilgrim. :)

I was intending to watch Carols from Kings earlier when I found that Mark Lowry was broadcasting - a born again Christian. So I tuned in and it was exactly what I needed. Then later I watched Carols from Kings on i-player starting just before midnight, so it saw me into Christmas Day. God is so good.

Something Mark Lowry said during his broadcast (which I mentioned above) is that we're not home yet. It helps me get my perspective right when things are not so easy here. :) One day all will be well, as it is now for those who have already gone into His presence. So glad that it helps you to know that your husband is there Gillian.

I'm thankful that even when I'm all alone God is with me.
so true, if I stay with Lord and keep close to him, I am never sad or alone. I feel such gratefulness and joy. We have a wonderful Lord supporting and caring for us.
Classic FM is so good this morning, all good Christmas music.

Blessings to you, musicalpilgrim! We're blessed. It's only 8F, but we didn't have much snow. I didn't shovel much yesterday because of the cold. Thursday it will finally go up to 50F and then we'll have three days of rain. I saw my great-grandkids last night and gave them their Christmas presents. I only see them on Christmas Eve and their birthdays. The youngest one doesn't know me. All three girls were wearing red plaid dresses. :)

I am cooking Christmas dinner, I think it will be the last time as I am exhausted. Lifting the turkey out of the oven was a job in itself.
The family haven't arrived yet, and I haven't got my husband to help.

I know what you're saying about the turkey. My daughter announced about 15 years ago that she's the best cook in the family and would prepare the holiday meals from then on. I've since learned that she only serves brunch on Christmas morning. When I asked her last night if she'd be roasting a turkey, she said, "I only do breakfast." She made beef pot roast for Christmas Eve and it didn't look at all like what my mother and I made. I was surprised.

Anyone else here over 65 (and don't mind sharing it :D)? Do you have any comments or thoughts on being an older Golden Eagle, being retired or anything else?

I loved my 60s and really enjoy retirement. I've just turned 70 and my perspective has changed a bit. I like my age and love talking to others who've been through the same stages of life during the same decades. (Although I enjoy being with younger people too.) I can't believe we're 70 now. It feels like 50 but without having to go to work! :D

A couple of things are different though. I've realised that I have to be a bit more careful health wise. I need to be able to do everything for myself, so having a broken limb would be a real bind, and I'm aware of being slightly more frail than a few years ago.

The other is that Heaven has started to feel nearer. Although I think I have a few years left I find it awesome that before very long I'll be in the place where "...There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain... " (Rev 21 v 4b). Sometimes I worry that I have not done enough, but then I tell myself I'm going to Heaven because I have accepted Jesus as my Saviour, not because of anything I've done (apart from believing in Him).

What are your thoughts/experiences?
I'm 71 and got married in October this year. My wife is frailer than I am, so I try to keep fit and well. I don't recover from exertion as well as I used to. I ride a bike 15 km, 3 times a week. We get a great deal of help with housework, which helps me.

I love the freedom of retirement. I'm also conscious of the reality that every day is a bonus. I've had a couple of health scares in the last few years. I regularly pray that the Lord will make my last years productive. I don't believe that I've finished my course.

I like to eat and keeping my weight reasonable is not easy. My wife is the opposite. I have to encourage (nag!) her to eat. I love life yet I'm looking forward to the next life.
