• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I am saying that people who would object to the Lord's Prayer are unreasonable, in my opinion, because I can't see anything offensive about it.
But of course you aren’t unreasonable if you refuse to face Mecca and pray to Allah.

I've insisted on nothing. I think a daily recitation of the Lord's Prayer would be a good idea - isn't it the perfect prayer, and it only takes up a few seconds of time. Someone could simply ask the Lord's guidance.
It is a Christian prayer, not a prayer for Jews, Muslims et al. You are talking about forcing Christianity on non-Christians.

The prayer wouldn't be subject to rules and regulations by Jews, Christians, or Muslims. It would just be a moment to ask the Lord's guidance.

I see nothing Christian about it. It's a prayer that would benefit everybody.

Except you are proposing the use of a Christian prayer. That is establishment of religion. Can’t do it.

You don’t see anything Christian about the Lord’s Prayer? Really? I presume that you do know who originally spoke the words of the Lord’s Prayer.

Asking God to help us isn't establishment of religion. Where would any of us be without his help?

Nothing in the prayer should offend anybody of any religion, near as I can tell. Is there something in the prayer that you think would offend someone?

Requiring a Christian prayer in a public school iolates the establishment clause.

That has been answered before and you apparently don’t get it.

Privately, as Jesus instructed, sure.

-
The words would help anybody who listened to them. The Lord commanded us to go out and make disciples of all nations, didn't he?

I don't see a single word in the prayer that should bother anyone on earth.

He also commanded us to pray in private.

You missed the context of what he said. His point was that you mustn't pray to show off. Would you really abolish church prayer?
