Well, take no offense, but relying upon our own thoughts instead of what the Bible says is never a good way to build your faith, my friend. Romans 10:17 says “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Faith does not come by hearing our own thoughts. We have to remember, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” (Jeremiah 17:9). You need to look at the whole counsel of God's Word and not just those verses you find to be more comforting from your own perspective.
Take for example 2 Timothy 4:7-8 in which you quote. A part of that faith includes 2 Timothy 3:1-9 where Paul describes that in the last days perilous times will come and men will be lovers of their own selves, and they will have a form of godliness but they will deny the power thereof. They are lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God. If OSAS was true, then Paul would not refer to any group of believers who appear to be outside of the faith because they have a form of godliness and they are lovers of pleasure more than being lovers of God.
If there is one thing I know about the OSAS or the Belief Alone camp, you cannot lose your salvation by sin. This means that many will be led to think that they can sin and still be saved on some level by our telling them this (if we are not careful to ALWAYS explain every time that if one is not living holy and a changed life, then one is not of God). But most do not do so. They just say, Once Saved Always Saved, and you don't lose salvation if you sin. Therefore, this leads many to treat God's grace as a license to sin. Therein lies the problem with OSAS or faith alone. In fact, James even says, “Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.” (James 2:24).
Jesus said narrow is the way and FEW be there that find it.
When I look around at the evangelical Sola Scriptura churches today, everyone believes in OSAS or Belief Alone-ism. This to me sounds like the wide gate path everyone is on. No need to offend anyone. Just preach feel good messages every Sunday and put a little money in the offering and hear some beautiful music that makes you feel good and then live life as you did before you met Christ. For it doesn't matter. Your Once Saved Always Saved. You got your license. Your golden ticket to Heaven. No need to even worry about reading the Bible or praying or loving God. Your Once Saved Always Saved. But James says even the demons believe and tremble (James 2:19).
