SAHM rule # (WHO KNOWS)...when you are the sahm, and it is a school holiday...and other people's kids come over for a sleepover the night before. BEWARE, your guilt may make you feel obligatted to become the drop off daycare for the working parents on the holiday.

(I'm feeling inclined to invite one child's older sibling and younger brother - who are at home alone today - where I am to drop this child off, over for sledding and games for the afternoon instead. Yes, the older child is able to babysit, but it just seems like such a long day for a 14, 9 and 5 year old to be alone. I like these kids and feel bad that I am here to fill up my kid's days and they are just hanging out watching the tube for their school vacation day.)

I should note, with extra kids in the house this morning, and more possibly coming, hubby bolted out the door by 6:45 a.m.

Hehehe.

Don't feel bad, hon, now that we have his sons full-time, we never get alone time. We actually had to go to the grocery store to get time to ourselves yesterday.

I do this all the time. I don't mind, really, my friends work out of the home, I work in it; and sometimes they pay me, and sometimes they don't, but my kids love their friends and I love mine, so it all works out!!

Well it turned out that we are just keeping the one here for most of the day. The 5 year old son didn't want to stay home with his sisters, so he had already gone to a day care. The 14 year old was still sleeping (as they do) when I called, so her mom and I decided she might like to sleep in without obligation for the morning. So, I kept the 9 year old on here for the morning. They are playing games now. I told the mom to tell the 14 year old to call me if she needs anything today, since I will be home.

(Her option to hang out with us if she wants....but I get the feeling she is liking being alone for a bit. Very 14 of her.)

She has babysat for us before, so she knows me pretty well too. I think she'd call if she wanted company.

It is so hard to get alone time together. My hubby takes a half day off from work once in awhile so we can go eat out by ourselves.
Whatever it takes, eh?
We have decided we are not giving up on date night forever...they will have to hang out and be good alone:eek: (my stepkids, not my bio kids!!)

Sounds like my son, actually. They are halfway grown these days at that age!!

Oh Barb....wishing you moments alone!

Anyone else noticing this. I have a friend who is a grandma now, but was a SAHM back "in the day". She and hubby used to even swap whole weekends with other SAHM families. She asked if I ever child-watch swap for dates and getaways with other SAHMs. But we don't. It seems the pool of SAHMs is so small, that none of who do have the same age kids, or the same schedule, so it would work for sleepovers and playdates for us to have time to ourselves.

DH and I are waiting for our oldest to turn a bit older for some more serious dates. She was the right grade to take the Y babysitter course last summer, but we feel 10 is too young to be alone for very long, so we go for a walk, or go put up business signs, or attend events that are only 5 minutes away for an hour or so, with her in charge. But we still don't go out to the movies (across town), or to any place that we can't get home quickly.

And even when the kids are older, I don't know if I will be ready to leave them overnight until at least one of them is 18, and a responsible 18 at that.

-And babysitters for 3 kids, who can make a meal, drive them around town, do what parents do etc. That is way way pricey.

Wish there were more moms to swap with.
