Evening All:)

Nice pub Anhelyna.

I know this is picky but need to correct something in the OP :) We don't leave religion and politics at the door. We leave our theological differences there. We agree on most things to do with our faith, and differ on only some. What we don't do is come in here and tell each other that we are wrong (enough people do that on this site already).

As for polotics, given how far flung we all are geographically, it rarely gets discussed in any case, but when it does, we just respect what we cannot agree on.

How's it going Andy.

I've been in and out of Reilly's, in different guises, for many years now and have always known this place to be free of religeous ans political discussion and debate.

We get our fill of that in many other threads here in OBOB and the rest of CF.

It's good to be able to come to a politics/religion freezone to wind down and relax in...

I agree. It is. But it was never intended to be taboo. It is a Christian site after all:) And I would never refrain from talking about my faith, or about church or stuff like that.

The reason behind saying we leave our differences at the door was that, being in the Catholic section of the site, it prevented a lot of the arguements between catholics and non Catholics that occur in so many other threads, both in OBOB and elsewhere.

And a pub where politics never comes up? Show me another anywhere in the world. (North Korea notwithstanding I suppose) :D

Bear in mind that when I first started poasting in here in 2004, there was much about the Catholic faith that I didn't understand (praying to Mary for example).

If I ask the question in OBOB, somebody posts 37 pages of Catechism, which I get lost in after the first four lines.

So I asked in here and got an straight answer that I understood. And because I understand it, even though I don't agree with it, I respect it and have gone toe to toe with Catholic haters many a time (not in here...GT) and defended the RCC.

Likewise, people have asked me in here why the Army doesn't do baptism and I've we've discussed it and, I hope, I've given the information required.

I talk aboutgoing to Mass aswell in here. there's a differnece between that and debating about theology, abortion, Left and Right etc.

As you've seen there's enough of that hot air (some of it my own) in other threads here :)

I suppose its a difference of emphasis on words between us...

Oh brother, on that you get NO arguement at all from me. That was my point. The bits we agree on we celebrate. The bits we differ on we leave at the door and respect those differences.

One of the things I always loved about the pub was that it was a safe haven from the war, and that you could be toe to toe with someone out there, then you both come in here and the debate is left elsewhere

Genuine question here. Do you ever get cruise ships in port..?

No, we are a cargo port.

We (the company) have passenger ships running the North Sea routes to Sweden, Denmark, and Holland but they go from two other ports.

Anyway, changing the subject. I have a bone to pick with you fella me lad:D

Remember a while ago we got on about Irish books, and I said Ulysees was too complicated for me?

And you recommended Finnegans Wake as it would suit me better.

Got a copy. Forked out two whole pounds for it.:swoon:

Can't understand a ruddy word of it. Must have been a good batch of Poteen when he wrote that...:D
