Oh my! 2 Timothy 3:16. What am I to do?

Come on now, friend. This is the best evidence in all of Scripture that you can offer as proof for your man-made doctrine, yet you accuse Catholics of twisting the Scriptures to support un-biblical doctrine?

Once you have the Joy of the Lord inside, you know who the teacher is.

John 14:26New King James Version (NKJV)
26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.
The Holy Spirit does not teach Sola Scriptura, yet you believe in that false doctrine of men.

The holy spirit teaches us everything we need to know. He uses the scriptures. Why not try to follow the scriptures alone. Try it and see what happens.

I am still waiting for your explanation. When Paul wrote that to Timothy, what was considered scripture?

You are being this disingenuous again. The limbo Trent talks about is not the limbo that our Anglican poster posted lies about.(whether intentionally or not)

I wondered if you would discern the difference. Thank you. You are correct that the former Catholic doctrine of Limbo which was widely believed and taught in the Catholic Church as the eternal abode of unbaptized babies, is not at all the same as the limbo of Trent. Like many such doctrines it was invented post-Trent, but never seemed to make it into the Catechism and thus has been ditched.

The limbo discussed in the Catechism of Trent is also never discussed. This was asserted to be the place where Jesus Christ went after His death and prior to His resurrection. It was the place where Old Testament folks were awaiting Him to release them. Some people equate it with hell or with Sheol or with Paradise. Rather than risk derailing my own thread here, perhaps, if you are interested, we could continue this discussion on a new thread. What do you think?

The OT, and anything that was written by the power of the HS. Peter refers to Pauls writings as scripture. Naturally that is the case, because they were commissioned to teach the gospel and the Lords commands.

You mean man-made tradition like Sola Scriptura, which Martin Luther invented? Chapter and verse, please.

We admit no such thing. We assert that all of our doctrinal beliefs are found in Scripture or the Traditions handed down from the apostles. You do not believe this, obviously.

No, that is not what the Church does.

Here you go again, attributing much more credit to Martin Luther than he deserves. If you want to know who invented sola scriptura you will have to go back much farther - much farther than Saint Paul (II Timothy 3:16,17) or even Jesus Christ (Matthew 5:18) to the writer of Psalm 119.

Your doctrinal believes are continually evolving. For example, Papal infallibility, which is found nowhere in the Bible or in the writings of the ECF's was developed in 1871 and resulted in yet another schism in your church.

Well apparently the Holy Spirit teaches Tangible that infants should be baptized, and teaches you that infants should not be baptized. Why don't you and Tangible discuss that, and get back to me after the two of you have worked that out?

I have no opinion on infant baptism. Lets not build strawmen.

Just as scripture states, all things will be brought to light. Here is the reason the poll was conducted. It was a way to poke fun once again at the RCC. And I mistakenly gave a small benefit of the doubt....never again.

As I said previously, if it was not for other Catholic posters on the Catholics - What do you believe about Mary? thread giving various opinions regarding Purgatory and thereby leading to the potential of total derailment of that thread I would not have inaugurated this thread.

Thus far (please correct me if I am mistaken) you have affirmed that the Council of Trent and the CCC both affirm the existence of Purgatory without elaborating further regarding what is actually is. If I am not mistaken, that leaves the door wide open for both traditional Catholic belief of a place of severe torment and woe and the current Catholic belief of a state of pleasant expectation.

Well, according to your first Pope, Peter, it was.

II Peter 3:15 regard the patience of our Lord as salvation; just as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given him, wrote to you, 16 as also in all his letters, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which the untaught and unstable distort, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction.
