One of my favorite scriptures on prophecy is Amos 3:8

(Amo 3:8) The lion hath roared, who will not fear? the Lord GOD hath spoken, who can but prophesy?

This implies that once a person hears the voice of the Lord... prophesying is a natural and even irresistable thing to do!
I cannot help it!

(Job 32:18) For I am full of matter, the spirit within me constraineth me.
(Job 32:19) Behold, my belly [is] as wine [which] hath no vent; it is ready to burst like new bottles.
(Job 32:20) I will speak, that I may be refreshed: I will open my lips and answer

(Jer 20:9) But if I say, "Forget it! No more GOD-Messages from me!" The words are fire in my belly, a burning in my bones. I'm worn out trying to hold it in. I can't do it any longer!

Practicing is not about helping God speak better but about learning to open your spirit to hear and gaining confidence to know when it is of God and then learning to repeat it without trying to put your own spin on it.So that when you speak His words you do so in His authority. with all spiritual gifts we must learn to use them propperly in good order so we don't get in the way of the Holy Spirit. For some that takes practice for others it just bubbles up and out.Just as for some evagelising is work for others it is just second natue some thing they just do. Anyway that's how I see it.

If God is speaking directly to you as a prophet, is it so hard to determine that it's God speaking? And I agree, you shouldn't put you own spin on it.

So that when you speak His words you do so in His authority. with all spiritual gifts we must learn to use them propperly in good order so we don't get in the way of the Holy Spirit.
Is it possible to get in the way of the Holy Spirit?

For some that takes practice for others it just bubbles up and out.
Are there any examples in scripture where someone speaking from God as a prophet needs practice as described here?

Just as for some evagelising is work for others it is just second natue some thing they just do. Anyway that's how I see it.

I don't see it quite the same. Evangelising isn't claiming to be receiving special revelations or words from God so I don't see it quite the same as prophecy.

knownbeforetime deep down you carry a shread of doubt. search deep and trust God completly and all his promises and gifts will be seen clearly not only in yourself but all others. God Loves you so much and would never allow anyone to fool you. remove the hidden doubt and once you have, listen close to the Holy Spirit you will hear him in your heart and Truth will be seen clear and Faith will grow. God has alot for you to do but you must break that chain of doubt and once done hang on because Gods taken you places you never dreamed of. Peace and Love !! Rod

Yes, my daughter, I have called you to be an intercessor for those around you, and for ministry, the backbone of a powerful ministry is intercessory prayer.

Through this prayer gift, I will develop the prophetic gift, for surely I have called you to prophesy. As I show you things, be not afraid to share.

Be filled this day with my Holy Spirit,

Says the Lord! :prayer:
Wow, both of these are such total confirmation to me, I can't even describe. You might have read that I'm moving to a town where I know absolutely no one. The one person I do know is going to be in Redding, CA. My friend wants me to move there because he says that town is going to get "rocked" by the Holy Spirit sometime in the future. I'm just going there in faith that God will take care of me. So, God is already taking me places. This time, last year, if you told me that I would be living in California, I would've hit you because I thought you were stupid. But here I am. I still have lots of doubt though...

And I know that if I want this revival to happen, I'm going to have to be praying for it... If I move there, I'm going to have to do my part.

Spiritlead,

I mean no offense to you or anyone else by the following question(s):

How is anyone supposed to know that this really came directly from God?

I need confirmation! The Lord told me today, that my ministry is prophecy. If the Lord confirms that within your spirit, then please let me know!

Thanks,

If the Lord told you, why do you need confirmation from anyone?

I don't have a problem with it. The person to whom the prophecy is directed should have a witness in their spirit about it.

If you don't have a witness in your spirit, then it is obvious that the Holy Spirit is not speaking to you about it.

I don't see that you have any reasonable cause to comment on what the Holy Spirit says to other believers, unless you can definitely point to where the prophecy goes against the Word of God as set out in the New Testament.

Because people used in the prophetic have teachable spirits and are happy to work with experienced mentors who can help guide and fine tune the gift. Remember the fellowship group at Antioch where the prophecy came forth to send Paul and Barnabas on the work that God had called them. There was general agreement among that team of prophets and teachers that the word that came for them was true and right and from the Holy Spirit. When the Holy Spirit confirms the word through trusted mentors, then there is increased faith and confidence to go on and do the will of God. A person who says that God speaks to them in isolation from the fellowship of others can be in danger of being self deluded. Having the support of experienced mentors is a safety system that is fully supported by the Holy Spirit. Some of the worst cults were formed by people who said that God had spoken to them, but would not listen to others in the performance of it.

The way to know that the Lord has really called you to a ministry of prophecy is to start prophesying. Make sure that you do start within a supportive team of believers who will love you and provide an environment where you are not afraid of making mistakes. Trying to launch out in an environment where others who do not really love you in the Lord and who will unfairly criticise you on the basis of their own slanted views can be pretty soul destroying.

The Scripture says that we have this treasure in earthen vessels. That means that because we are human, we need time to perfect our gift. In the same way that driving a motor car for the first time can be pretty scary for your instructor, who will teach you the correct way through your errors, starting in the prophetic can be bumpy at first until your spiritual senses are tuned in to hear the Holy Spirit's prompting more clearly.

Don't believe those who tell you that you have to get it perfect right at the start. People who tell you that probably have never prophesied themselves, and are content to be armchair critics who are too frightened to launch out in the prophetic themselves.

Having a group of supportive, loving, experienced believers around you is the best way of starting and developing a prophetic ministry.

I have written an article on prophecy. Here is the link:

Read it through and PM me with any questions.

I am using you, daughter, to shine my light on many, continue to let My light. and my joy splash out to those around you.

Do not be afraid to lay hands on, and pray for the sick and hurting, for as you lay hands on them, and pray for them, I will surely flow through you with virtue and healing anointing, Says the Lord

 :amen:
Wow that was actually pretty spot on to what i've been told my gifts are!!! I once prayed for my friend and God worked through me and she was healed, it was really amazing but ever since then I've felt too scared to ever do it again, I'm guessing this is more of a spiritual attack or something. Anyways, I want to thank you for sharing that Spiritlead, that was really really encouraging, I'm going to try my best to be brave and I'm going to allow God to work through me to heal people. Sometimes I feel sooo strongly inside that I need to pray for someone's healing but I don't take the opportunity and I usually beat myself up about it for ages. I'm going to try and not let this happen anymore. :)

God Bless.

The way to know that the Lord has really called you to a ministry of prophecy is to start prophesying.
When God speaks directly to someone, as He did with prophets, He always spoke very clear and unmistakably. The way to really know if you are a prophet is that God will speak to you directly and clearly; there won't be any question if it's God or not.

Make sure that you do start within a supportive team of believers who will love you and provide an environment where you are not afraid of making mistakes. Trying to launch out in an environment where others who do not really love you in the Lord and who will unfairly criticise you on the basis of their own slanted views can be pretty soul destroying.
I'm going to go ahead and say that I'm one of the biggest critics of self proclaimed prophets. The reason for that is not lack of love or being unfair, but because I have seen many christians misled by false prophecies that ultimately led them away from the faith or diminished it somehow. I dont want to destroy someone soul, but I also don't want to see christians abuse the spiritual gift of prophecy and spiritually damage themselves or others. So, before you go and make it sound like everyone will unfaily criticize her because of slanted views, please consider that.

That being said, if you are going to prophecy and be a prophet, you must be correct. If God is speaking directly through you to someone else, God will not make a mistake getting His message across, so you must be perfect when claiming "Thus said the Lord" or "God said..." or "God is telling me...." I still have yet to find scripture where the gift of prophect is in some way cultivated. It's either there, or it isn't.

I also have yet to find scripture that your spiritual senses need to be tuned in order to hear direct messages from God. Look at the case of Cornelius and Saul of Tarsus, they weren't even regenerate when God intervened and spoke to them directly.

A motor car driver and a prophet are a little different too.:D

Don't believe those who tell you that you have to get it perfect right at the start.
And don't prophecy falsely. Doing so will be misleading to yourself and possibly others.

People who tell you that probably have never prophesied themselves,
This has no bearing. Not all are called as prophets.

and are content to be armchair critics who are too frightened to launch out in the prophetic themselves.
Again, not all are called to be prophets and some of us approach the idea of God speaking directly to people, with reverence and something not to be taken lightly. Not saying that's the case with you Mr. Oscar, that's just where I'm coming from here.

Have a good one.:ebil:

Hello brother Vince, As i posted, our sister, expressed confirmation, but maybe she can elaborate further

Is the fact that she is an intercessory prayer warrior confirmation?

Has she had any other words over her life about being prophetic?

I am also going to pray for you and if God shows me something, I'll let you know, and see if it is confirmation, if its ok with you? :groupray: Maybe others could pray for you also, Rod?

I believe what God gave to me to give to her was confermation of the other words given to her. Both as she herself has stated related to her life. Where there is two or more so there is God. Adding to or causing doubt is not of God. Peace and Love !! Rod

I would like to point out this thread was not to be a debate thread concerning prophecy but it is to be a thread of prophecy to those who ask for such. If someone says something that does not line up with scripture or does not edify or help to grow another then by all means we need to stand against it. but to debate the function and us of prophecy should be for another thread not this one. However its not my show so do as you wish i am just stating my thoughts for what thats worth.
We all need a safe haven to ask for and recieve inspired words that encourage and aid in our growth i hope this thread can remain as such. Peace and Love !! Rod
