Probably because it's the Chinese virus

This is a hilarious presumption, since the colloquial name in use IS the most accurate name. The political agenda is the attempt to change that name to Chinese virus.

And this is what I mentioned earlier, a claim of victimhood when others point out the blatant political agenda to turn "Chinese virus" into a thing based on some bigoted agenda from the president.

This is the thing, we can talk about the practice of wet markets in China, much like consumption of bush meat in some African countries or cattle raising in England. We're able to do these things without needing to direct a disease label at a group of people. Calling it by its colloquial name, coronavirus/COVID-19, does not prevent you from talking about these issues.

I have no sympathy for the people who reign offense virtually every time the man opens his mouth or does anything

open the Embassy In Jerusalem- Racist
    Close traffic from China Xenophobia
    Close the border - racist
Stop traffic from Europe. Racist, xenophobic

on top of that four years of falsehoods about Russia Russia Russia

Trump is at times unmannerly, but IMHO, a person has to be blind/deaf or just plain have extreme predjudice to believe the never ending 90% plus negative reporting that has not abated in four years.

Trump can do nothing, say nothing that will not draw the ire and complaint of the media and their loyal supporters.

Americans are seeing this, that is why his approval rating is where it is.

You can only cry wolf so many times and people stop believing you.

    You are way off topic.
That is your view. My view is that the man lied so much right off, and continues to lie, that he is untrustworthy. One can only lie so many times and people will stop believing anything he says.

Trump calls everyone names that disagrees with him, and plays the victim when criticized.
Not buying the whining. He doesn't need to refer to COVID-16 as the Chinese virus. He could be more professional and call it by the name the doctors call it.

I am directly replying to your post. If I am way off topic so are you

how do you feel about Adam Schiff? How many times can he lie before people stop believing him? He bold face lied for three years about Trump working with the Russians

How about the numerous reports from the media, one after another disproved.

or are we placing that standard to just one man?

This. That was my point. That ppl apparently are unaware of the actual reason for the name & just think it was called that bc it started in Spain or was the worst there or whatever when that's not so.

    Yes this too.

Was that not taught in history classes? Bc we had a whole test on this. Idk why ppl are defending the "China virus" nastiness by saying what they are about Spanish flu & German measles.

    To Clarify:
    1) I don't accuse the president of "all manner of ill". I accuse him of "the manner of ill he participates in". And yet this is groundbreaking for some it appears.
    2) I don't accuse him of those things because I "don't like him". In fact, I don't accuse him at all. I POINT OUT his misbehaves. IF you don't know the difference, consider yourself gaslit. I do so because I believe he is a terrible president and a misanthrope. I don't like him because he's a terrible president and a misanthrope.
The flow chart would look like this:
    I point out behaviours
    /
    Trump-->terrible president+misanthrope-->I don't like him

Sure. You also can just call black people the "n" word too.
Yes you have freedom of speech. I don't think anyone is saying you gotta take that right away.

Besides, it's not the "thought police" if people are saying things. Then it's the speech police. The name makes it pretty straight forward I'd have thought.

The 5th estate is losing their power over hte people?
    Well congrats.

The 5th estate is the ONLY group that EMPOWERS the people.

I CANNOT believe an adult believes "The only people reporting what the government is doing besides the government, can't be trusted to report on the government. We must ONLY be listening to the government". This is a rational inference based on your argument.

There was a time that it used to. Now it is just an arm of the RESIST movement whose sole purpose is to unseat a duly elected President.

But the things you mentioned aren't causing global issues with sweeping negative externalities, so there's really no reason to assign blame, or make sure people are aware of the origin as to encourage international pressure to change anything.

For instance, there's no compelling reason to publicly regionally associate Bratwurst with Germany...

However, in the late 30's, there was a compelling reason to associate Nazism with Germany.
(as that was the epicenter of a practice that was having some sweeping, widespread, negative implications). Sure, you could've taken an approach of "let's just evenly oppose antisemitism all over the world", but it would've done little to address the major issues at hand.

When the Nazis were in power in the late 30's, if you were a world leader, looking to squash that problem, would your prescription be?:

    A) This is largely a German problem, we need go after Germany to force them to change their practices
    or
    B) Well, Nazism technically knows no country, so the way we should address this is to just broadly, and non-descriptively, say "Nazism is bad", but we can't target a specific regional culture to address it as that wouldn't be politically correct

You're correct, there's no reason for people to be mistreating Asian Americans.

But to say "it just showed up in the Wuhan province of China" isn't accurate either, as that makes it sound like it was just some sort of random bad luck or fate that it happened occur there.

It showed up there, specifically (and uniquely) because of some very unethical food practices they have in mainland China.

When you engage in some very unhygienic and unethical practices with regards to meat procurement (look at some pics of Chinese wet markets if you want to see it), then it's not random bad luck, it's a predictable outcome.

If we, in the US, had a custom where we allowed raw, uncured pork to sit out in the sun all day and sold it to people and it caused illnesses, that's not some random random coincidence when people fall ill after consuming it.

It doesn't have to be one extreme or the other...

One can rationally say "You don't target Asian Americans for something that wasn't their fault" while saying "Chinese food culture caused this problem"

    Both statements are 100% accurate.

Really. Were in the middle of the biggest global crisis since WWII, and you think the right thing to do is assign blame and keep reminding everyone every few seconds. You think I will somehow forget the atrocious handling of the initial outbreak if you call it COVID19 instead of the Chinese virus?

And even then, we didn't do it. We referred to people as Nazis not German Nazis. The rest of your analogy is poor. Viruses don't care about politics.

At least you are honest about it Rob. Your leader claimed it was "for accuracy". You at least admit it's because you think everyone needs a constant reminder as to who is to blame, as that is useful because reasons.

Look at my previous posts, people are already trying to do that...

When one of the biggest social influencers is saying:
"So, we need to stop calling it or labeling it like it's they did it to us. Mother Nature really did this to us."

...and you have a prominent political figure saying:
"if you believe the Chinese are to blame for this virus, then you're gullible"

and you have major publications saying:
"The World Health Organization named the disease COVID-19 to deter people from associating the virus with a location or group of people,"

...you don't think that's a case of people trying to publicly distance the source of the problem with the actual problem in the name of "political correctness"?

-"Mother Nature" didn't do this to us
-You're not gullible for acknowledging the fact that Chinese food culture is to blame
-A international health group claiming that they specifically used a non-descript name to "deter people from associating a virus with a location" is a blatant attempt to deflect blame from the culture that caused the issue

Chinese wet market/"exotic meat" food culture is responsible for this issue, plain and simple.
