God does edit His commandments (for example about hating enemies or about unclean foods), but God also does not give all commandments to all people for all times. One needs to understand the context and the original audience.

The New Covenant is established on better promises Heb 8:6, not better laws, because God keeps His promises always and He changes not. No one has the authority to undermined what God wrote and God spoke, not the apostles, not us, no one. Thankfully this gets sorted out soon enough.

The book to Hebrews is not written to Gentiles. Gentiles have never been given the laws from the Mosaic covenant, therefore, if God does not change, there is nothing to change about it.

And Jesus is God and has the authority to change laws. As He did.

God wrote the words of the Old Covenant, Yes?

But it's old. It's been replaced
Brother, Paul replaced the Ten Commandments written in "letters etched in stone" with Jesus as our "Spirit" role model of obedience.

We are confident of all this because of our great trust in God through Christ (as the model "Spirit" to image as in a mirror). It is not that we think we are qualified to do anything on our own (like excusing our disobedience of the Ten Commandments as coming from the Holy Spirit). Our qualification comes from God (sending us Jesus as the model "Spirit" to image as in a mirror). He has enabled us to be ministers of his new covenant (Jesus as the model "Spirit" to image as in a mirror). This is a covenant not of the letter (Ten Commandments), but of the Spirit (Jesus as the model "Spirit" to image as in a mirror and not the Holy Spirit used as an excuse to disobey the Ten Commandments when Jesus obeyed them). The letter ends in death (sabotaged by Judaism to not remove sin); but the Spirit (Jesus as the model "Spirit" to image as in a mirror) gives life (the removal of Judaism's disobedience to obey completely the Ten Commandments). The old way (God's "order" by the prophet Moses), with letters etched in stone (Ten Commandments), led to death (sabotaged by Judaism to not remove sin), though it began with such glory (leading to righteousness) that the people of Israel could not bear to look at Moses’ face. For his face shone with the glory of God (which is His righteousness expressed in the Ten Commandments), even though the brightness was already fading away (Judaism's disobedience to the Ten Commandments). Shouldn’t we expect far greater glory under the new way (Jesus as the model "Spirit" to image as in a mirror who obeyed completely the Ten Commandments for us to do likewise), now that the Holy (added by the translators) Spirit (not the Holy Spirit but Jesus as the model "Spirit" to image as in a mirror) gives life? If the old way (written letters etched in stone), which brings condemnation (Judaism disobeys the Ten Commandments by replacing them with human traditions), was glorious (leading to righteousness), how much more glorious (leading to righteousness) is the new way (Jesus as the model "Spirit" to image as in a mirror), which makes us right with God (removes sin)! In fact, that first glory (which led to righteousness) was not glorious at all compared with the overwhelming glory (leading to righteousness) of the new way (Jesus as the model "Spirit" to image as in a mirror). So if the old way (written letters etched in stone), which has been replaced, was glorious (led to righteousness), how much more glorious (leading to righteousness) is the new (Jesus as the model "Spirit" to image as in a mirror), which remains forever! Since this new way (of imaging as in a mirror the model "Spirit" of Jesus, rather than Judaism's disobedience) gives us such confidence, we can be very bold (learning to use God's name properly, which Judaism does not). We are not like Moses, who put a veil over his face so the people of Israel would not see the glory (of God's righteousness), even though it was destined to fade away (by Judaism's growing disobedience to the Ten Commandments). But the people’s minds were hardened (to disobey the Ten Commandments), and to this day whenever the old covenant is being read, the same veil covers their minds so they cannot understand the truth (of their disobedience by replacing God's Commandments with their own human traditions). And this veil can be removed only by believing in Christ (as the model "Spirit" to image as in a mirror). Yes, even today when they read Moses’ writings, their hearts are covered with that veil, and they do not understand (they disobey the Ten Commandments by substituting them with human traditions). But whenever someone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. For the Lord is the Spirit (Jesus is the model "Spirit" to image as in a mirror who obeyed the Ten Commandments as our example and Paul is not referring to the Holy Spirit as an excuse to disobey the Ten Commandments), and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom (from sin and not from God's Ten Commandments). So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord (in obeying completely the Ten Commandments by removing Judaism's disobedience). And the Lord—who is the Spirit (Jesus is the model "Spirit" Paul is telling us to image as in a mirror and not the Holy Spirit, whose job is to tell us things through prophets and remind us of Jesus as the model "Spirit" to image as in a mirror)—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image. (2 Corinthians 3:4-18 NLT fixed and overlaid with commentary)

Jesus' as our "Spirit" role model of obedience is superior to Judaism's disobedience to the Ten Commandments.

Jesus replied, “You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you, for he wrote, ‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Their worship is a farce, for they teach man-made ideas as commandments from God.’ For you ignore God’s law(nomos)/commandment(entolé) and substitute your own tradition.” Then he said, “You skillfully sidestep God’s law(nomos)/commandment(entolé) in order to hold on to your own tradition. For instance, Moses gave you this law(nomos)/commandment(entolé) from God: ‘Honor your father and mother,’ and ‘Anyone who speaks disrespectfully of father or mother must be put to death.’ But you say it is all right for people to say to their parents, ‘Sorry, I can’t help you. For I have vowed to give to God what I would have given to you.’ In this way, you let them disregard their needy parents. And so you cancel the word of God in order to hand down your own tradition. And this is only one example among many others.” (Mark 7:6-13 NLT fixed)

The passage above is how Jesus "circumcises" us into the new covenant and circumcision is no longer done by humans.

When you came to Christ, you were “circumcised,” but not by a physical procedure/human hands. Christ performed a spiritual circumcision—the cutting away of your sinful nature. For you were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with him you were raised to new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead. (Colossians 2:11-12 NLT fixed)

United in our hope for the soon return of Jesus, Jorge

I think we agree that gentile Christians participate in the New Covenant, yes?

And that Jesus has the authority to "obsolete" the covenant made at Sinai?

Brother, God "obsoleted" the covenant made at Sinai

To bring it closer to the thread topic, at every Catholic Mass, the priest says, This is the New Covenant in my blood

I'm pretty sure the same thing is said at every Orthodox Divine Liturgy

They don't say, This is the same Covenant written in a different place

from what I've heard

there was just one group
until an unfortunate split

in 1054
between east and west

neither can really be said
to be the mother of the other

The peace of the Lord Jesus be with you all

Actually after the Council of Chalcedon there were three legitimate denominations, the Chalcedonian (Eastern Orthodox and Roman Catholic), the Oriental Orthodox, and the Church of the East, which became estranged at the Council of Ephesus in 433 AD due to the machinations of the Nestorians but which replaced the flawed Nestorian Christology in the sixth century.

God bless you!

Indeed, and in that of all traditional liturgical churches. You will always hear “Peace be with you” and the reply, the Sursum Corda (“Lift up your hearts”), the Institution Narrative, the Words of Institution or a paraphrase, and an epiklesis, although in the very ancient Divine Liturgy of Addai and Mari in its original form used by the Assyrian Church of the East and the Ancient Church of the East the Institution is somewhat spread throughout the text and is not as clear as in other liturgies, but that liturgy is one of the oldest attested and was specifically used in Mesopotamia, India, Persia and the Far East, along with a few other liturgies written at a later date which do have the Words of Institution.

And that Jesus has the authority to "obsolete" the covenant made at Sinai?
Brother, you are right in saying that many of Jesus' so-called followers are Gentiles because they do not do what God asks of them.

Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter. On judgment day many will say to me, ‘Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name.’ But I will reply, ‘I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God’s laws.’ (Matthew 7:21-23 NLT)

Those of us who follow Jesus are no longer Gentiles if we have joined the part of "all Israel" that follows Jesus. Our correct interpretation of the following passage, which says that Gentiles "join" "all Israel" and are no longer Gentiles, but part of "all Israel," is confirmed by the word "citizenship" in the second passage of Ephesians.

Israel has experienced a hardening in part until the FULL NUMBER of the Gentiles has come in, and in this way all Israel will be saved. As it is written: “The deliverer will come from Zion; he will turn godlessness away from Jacob. And this is my covenant with them when I take away their sins.” As far as the gospel is concerned, they are enemies for your sake; but as far as election is concerned, they are loved on account of the patriarchs, for God’s gifts and his call are irrevocable. (Romans 11:25b-29 NIV)

Those of us who follow Jesus have entered into "all Israel" and are no longer Gentiles, but part of "all Israel." As the following passage demonstrates, by becoming citizens of Israel, we are no longer Gentiles, but part of "all Israel." Gentiles are those who do not follow God, and many so-called Christians are Gentiles as Jesus told us above.

remember that at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world. But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ... Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household (Ephesians 2:12,13,19 NIV)

United in our hope for the soon return of Jesus, Jorge

Brother, that's not what I was saying

I was referring to believers who are not Jewish by ancestry or proselytes

Acts 11:1
Now the apostles and the brothers who were in Judea heard that the Gentiles had also received the word of God

Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter. On judgment day many will say to me, ‘Lord! The NT Sabbath is according to the commandment Luke 23:56 Heb 4:4 because God keeps His promises.

Jesus never turned into the Sabbath, commandment or day. Sad teaching.
Lotta' apostolic teaching (Heb 3:11-4:11) of Christ (Lk 10:16) you are ignoring there.

"The NT presents another (Heb 4:8) God's own (Heb 3:11, 4:3, 5, 10) full-time (Heb 4:4) Sabbath rest remaining for the people of God (Heb 4:9-11); i.e., a full-time rest from our own works to save, and in the finished work of Jesus Christ which saves to the uttermost.

The NT presents our full-time rest in the finished work of Jesus Christ, the NT Sabbath."

Feel free to Biblically demonstrate the error of the above:.

Hebrews 4:4,9,10 is referring to the weekly Sabbath rest on the seventh day Exo 20:10 that remains for the people of God Heb 4:9NIV because God keeps His promises Psa 89:34 Mat 5:18-19

sabbatismos: Sabbath rest
Original Word: σαββατισμός
Part of Speech: Noun, Masculine
Transliteration: sabbatismos
Pronunciation: sab-bat-is-mos'
Phonetic Spelling: (sab-bat-is-mos')
Definition: Sabbath rest
Meaning: a keeping of the Sabbath, a Sabbath rest.
Sabbatismos is not the weekly Sabbath. That's an entirely different word together.

Hebrews 4:9 "There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God."

This is not the weekly Sabbath. This is Sabbatismos
rest.
From a derivative of sabbaton; a "sabbatism", i.e. (figuratively) the repose of Christianity (as a type of heaven) -- rest.

So this verse does not refer to the weekly Sabbath.

The weekly Sabbath is Sabbaton

Sabbath day
Of Hebrew origin (shabbath); the Sabbath (i.e. Shabbath), or day of weekly repose from secular avocations (also the observance or institution itself); by extension, a se'nnight, i.e. The interval between two Sabbaths; likewise the plural in all the above applications -- sabbath (day), week.

So we see again that the verse does not state there remains a "sabbaton" to the people of God.

Huge difference and denotes an entirely different meaning or sabbatimos would not have been used.

And we see in verse 10 we are definitely not talking about a day of the week -

Hebrews 4:10 "For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from His."

God is the example but again we see that it's not a day of the week we enter. We enter into "his rest".

Lets look at the Greek

sabbatismos: Sabbath rest

Original Word: σαββατισμός
Part of Speech: Noun, Masculine
Transliteration: sabbatismos
Pronunciation: sab-bat-is-mos'
Phonetic Spelling: (sab-bat-is-mos')
Definition: Sabbath rest
Meaning:
a keeping of the Sabbath, a Sabbath rest.

The rest in this verse literally translates into Sabbath-keeping, which remains, that is not the definition for changed for God's people. Heb 4:9
remains definition
  1. the parts left over after other parts have been removed, used, or destroyed:
What did Jesus say- I did not come to DESTROY the law or prophets but to fulfill, meaning to fill full, like one does their wedding covenant. Why breaking the least of these commandments affects our status in heaven Mat 5:19-30

God said in the Sabbath commandment written on His Authority that there is no greater, the seventh day is the Sabbath, it is His personal Testimony Exo 31:18. The whole bible is about the testimony of God and if we can't believe His own Testimony both spoken and written divinely by God, nothing I say will make a difference.

Exo 20:10 but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates.

Hebrews didn't change that, it affirms it.

Hebrews 4:4 For He (God) has spoken in a certain place (Mt Sinai) of the seventh day in this way: “And God rested on the seventh day from all His works”;

Its bringing us right back to the Sabbath commandment on the Authority of God because there is no greater, not then, not now, not tomorrow. Why His ark of the covenant that holds the Ten Commandments written by the God of the Bible is shown at the last trumpet Rev 11:19 as it's what all man will be Judged by 2 Cor 5:10 James 2:10-12 Mat 5:19-30 Ecc 12:13-14 Rev 14:6-7. I personally wouldn't want to remove anything God covers under His mercy seat where His law is, but we do have free will

At what level have you studied Greek?
If you think the Greek I posted from Strong that is its literal definition of the word is incorrect, feel free to show why Strong’s literal definition is wrong.

Here's more you can feel free to challenge as well.

Hebrew and Greek Dictionaries w/TVM, Strong - H7673
שׁבת; shâbath; shaw-bath' A primitive root; to repose, that is, desist from exertion; used in many implied relations (causatively, figuratively or specifically): - (cause to, let, make to) cease, celebrate, cause (make) to fail, keep sabbath, suffer to be lacking, leave, put away (down), (make to) rest, rid, still, take away.

This is further verified in God's 4th commandment where further instruction is given by God on how to "KEEP SABBATH BY RESTING (NO WORK)" here...
EXODUS 20:8-11 [8], REMEMBER THE SABBATH [שׁבּת; shabbâth H7676 noun of what is being kept; from one sabbath to another sabbath or every sabbath] DAY, TO KEEP IT HOLY [Made Holy at creation GENESIS 2:3]. {How to keep the Sabbath?} [9], Six days shall you labor, and do all your work: [10], But THE SEVENTH DAY [referring back to Genesis 2:1-3] IS THE SABBATH [שׁבּת; shabbâth H7676 noun of what is being kept; from one sabbath to another sabbath or every sabbath] OF THE LORD YOUR GOD: IN IT YOU SHALL NOT DO ANY WORK [resting], you, nor your son, nor your daughter, your manservant, nor your maidservant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger that is within your gates: [WHY?] [11], FOR IN SIX DAYS THE LORD MADE HEAVEN AND EARTH, THE SEA, AND ALL THAT IS IN THEM IS, AND RESTED THE SEVENTH DAY; WHEREFORE THE LORD BLESSED THE SABBATH DAY AND MADE IT HOLY. [Refering to GENESIS 2:1-3]

A similar Greek Word used in the new testament scriptures in HEBREWS 4:9 "σαββατισμός; sabbatismos"

GREEK INTERLINEAR
HEBREWS 4:9 άρα (Then) απολείπεται (there is left) σαββατισμός (a Sabbath rest) τω (to the) λαώ (people) του θεού (of God)

STRONGS LEXICON
So ἄρα (ara) Conjunction Strong's Greek 686: Then, therefore, since. Probably from airo; a particle denoting an inference more or less decisive. there remains ἀπολείπεται (apoleipetai) Verb - Present Indicative Middle or Passive - 3rd Person Singular Strong's Greek 620: From apo and leipo; to leave behind; by implication, to forsake. a Sabbath rest σαββατισμὸς (sabbatismos) Noun - Nominative Masculine Singular

ENGLISHMAN'S CONCORDANCE

According to the HEBREWS, GREEK and GENESIS 2:1-3; EXODUS 20:8-11 and HEBREWS 4:9 and the scripture definitions RESTING is how to keep the Sabbath by ceasing from all work on the "seventh day", all are saying the same thing. The Sabbath is kept Holy by "RESTING" all of which agree with the HEBREW root word definition of H7673; שׁבת; shâbath which is the verb of the noun derivative of Sabbath which means to " REST which is TO KEEP SABBATH" or the sabbath is kept holy by "RESTING" (no work).https://www.christianforums.com/threads/colossians-2-14-17-are-you-being-told-the-truth-updated.8158141/post-75081154
