That's because we're Orthodox. We're always going to get balanced theology, et cetera. It's literally structured into everything. We will never have to wonder if things will be done properly. We're very blessed.

ETA: I never had that assurance being raised pentecostal, or when I became southern baptist, or when I went to a Christian mega-church.
Could you explain a bit? I don't know what this is about. Is it just the church calendar or is there more that contributes to this balance?

To say it is simply the church calendar wouldn't do it justice. It's built into the services, prayers, et cetera. Judgement Sunday was this past week. This coming week is Forgiveness Sunday. The entirety of Great Lent is about repentance. I'm terrible at attempting to explain this, sorry, but this balance is literally something I had never witnessed or experienced before in my life. It's like something clicked and I simply knew that this was how it should be. It's this interesting synergy (if I'm not misusing the word) between the corporate Church and the private/personal walk with God.

Here lately I have wondered why I do not hear ANY sermons preached on hell. I grew up Pentecostal and all those years I would hear preaching on hell fire, repent and give your life to Christ. Many times I saw the Holy Spirit convict people during these sermons and they would practically run to the altar. It seems here lately and has been happening for years now that preachers no longer preach on this matter. Why has everything turned into a pretty package, tickle your ears service?? Why have we strayed away from this? The preacher used to pour out his heart to the congregation, pleading the case of Jesus to turn from the wickedness of this world for there is a heaven and there is a hell, choose today who you will serve, repent for the time is drawing near. What happened to this teaching and preaching, it seems it has all but vanished?

This isn't a surprise, in fact there are a number of things Hirelings don't preach about regarding the Gospel. Jesus spoke more about Hell than he did heaven, why? because he was letting the people know that hell wasn't created for people Matthew 25:41 but if a person chooses not to repent of their sins and confess with complete assurance from the heart that Jesus is the only way that's were they are going to end up. The Bible warns that in the last days people are going to depart from the faith 1 Timothy 4, That the so called churches would turn into entertainment centers. What we see today with a False Gospel - Galatians 1:6-10. So Paul told Timothy to preach the Word in season or out, whether they like it or not. The reason why people don't preach about hell is because they don't believe that hell exist. Their is the practice of "Replacement Theology" going on from the pulpits to the pews and people want a "Fell Good" message. God's Word is Bittersweet, You cannot just give out the Sweet without the Bitter. Stay focused on the Word of God - Studying to show yourself approved, The Lord will separate the Sheep from the Goats. God Bless.

I wonder if "we" haven't tried to adapt to a certain (method) or program as to feel comfortable. By knowing what is to come or happen (referring to very orderly services).....such as ok now we stand, ok now we quote this, ok now lets sing this song???? Not being critical at all i promise....its just a thought??

Nope..haven't heard a preach on hell for a very long time. But then again, I'm not sure I'd sit in and listen to one.

I've lost loved ones who are not saved so I don't need reminding of the horrors therein, thank you. I also struggle to reconcile why God would create such a place of torment for mankind. Particularly when I consider that He alone can open men's eyes to salvation.

I know what you mean, heard plenty myself. BUT NO DONT GET ME WRONG.....I dont think or want to hear it every week at all. Im referring to the fact that you totally do not hear it anymore.....nowhere.

Can you really state that it is preached 'nowhere', I don't think anyone can know that. Nevertheless I agree that it is preached less than in the past, there was probably an overemphasis in the past.

What is the content of the preaching you do hear, can you give a summary?

While I don't recall a lot of hell fire preaching in the church I grew up in there usually would be a hymn at the end, like 'Drifing away from the Saviour'

I don't regularly attend church now, after along time out of church, I pushed myself to go again, I thought I would hear the Gospel, and that I might be able to start over, but it was a message for christians. I wasn't sure I was one so i could not really benefit.

It's the great apostasy. The age of rebellion. This is why the hell preachers have been persecuted, because they were speaking the truth.

Solomon's Porch, it seems like every topic you start generates a lot of heat. I guess the party doesn't get going until you show up. Lol.

I had another thought though about this issue. There a a growing number of churches that now preach the idea that ultimately God will save everybody and nobody is really going to go end up in hell. Then there are those who believe that there isn't actually going to be a lake of literal fire and all that the second death is simply separation from God but not actual death.

I guess with a growing number of Christians believing these ideas, less people will preach about what the truth about it is. Plus, as it is becoming controversial they will not touch it.

Finally, Jesus said:
Mat 10:34 “Don’t think that I came to send peace on the earth. I didn’t come to send peace, but a sword.
Mat 10:35 For I came to set a man at odds against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.

What does this mean? It means when you take a stand for what the truth really is people will hate you, even your own family members. It can get so bad that your life may be threatened. The entire truth of the bible is not something that is going to accepted by the majority and to be a Christian means sometimes you have to stand alone and go against the grain. Many people want to associate themselves with Christ but they want to take the easiest road possible and they gravitate to watered down messages which does not require them to make any fundamental changes in their life.

Mat_16:24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

Some versions of the bible even leave out that part that says take up his cross because that's inconvenient. Christianity is not about singing Kumbaya with the crowd, but about being willing to stand for what is true.

You know i can see your point in this.....no matter what i think or feel. I too have lost people I loved and not sure they made it to heaven as I hoped, but I am not God and I cannot judge.

First I would like to extend my hand to you with an apology. I am being so sincere here, I understand your feelings. I on behalf of many ignorant, self righteous people, religious and better than thou attitude......ask you for forgiveness of "my" ignorance, for me being one of those people. That is not the way it is and should have never been. We take our eyes off the cross and start looking and smelling good thinking we are such great and wonderful people....BUT we are not. I sin daily, I fail daily. And for the part I played in society as to make one turn away from God, I honestly apologize. I have been hurt too......the thing that made the difference is the love i felt that I could only get from my Father in heaven. Nothing can compare to that inner peace no matter what I may face, I KNOW HE IS WITH ME AND GOT MY BACK AT ALL TIMES.

When God created the earth He gave Adam a command and Eve as well.....to Take dominion over the earth, He told them look all of this is yours, now rule over it, nurture it and care for it etc. I mean everything was right there in front of us.......WE failed God, He did not fail us. Not once. We did not appreciate the things given to us and became prideful and evil.

So truly, I apologize that people have let you down. They have let me down too my friend. For that is why I serve the Lord, HE WILL NEVER FAIL ME.

The goodness of God brings US to repentance. IF the sermons are led of OUR LORD SPIRIT then the congregation will here what they need to hear. The GOoD News Gospel is most importantly the "word of the cross" plus the NOW Testament. The Old Testament and New Testament are NOT new, The "NOW" Testament of the grace of OUR LORD SPIRIT is is being multiplied TODAY. The testimony of those led of Lord Spirit speaks truth and the truth sets people free. Do we scare people into receiving out of fear, or "HOPE" of an better "ETERNAL LIFE". The power of the resurrection through the cross message gives enough seed to allow OUR watering for growth of revelation from OUR LORD He is the truth that are setting people free for others to "SEE" the love we have for one another. That is the continuous flow of Lord Spirit poured into OUR hearts being released through OUR obedience to led to be "sons of God". Living the GOoD News that "draws all people unto OUR KINGDOM His Reality, through the Truth of the "Word of His power" that creates the light Obedience to speak, give rhemautterance with authority. We are simply ambassadors with AUTHORITY to speak and do as we hear and see.

What happened to this teaching and preaching, it seems it has all but vanished?

Today many turn away their ears from the truth and want to heap to themselves teachers having itchy ears and they still hate him that rebukes in the gates as they did in the OT. They hate the prophets today as much as they did then and Jesus said which of the prophets have not their fathers persecuted.

Today we have physcology and philosophies and positive thinking mantras and false teachers everywhere that make everything about the person, making the person feel good. With good words and fair speeches they deceive the hearts of the simple.

Today many false teachers and so called pastors seek more to get from the people a livelihood and need to pay the bills and be popular and seen of men, that many do not want to offend anyone with truth, or scare any away. It is easier to flatter them and give them what they want and then they build up their base and financial income and make a larger name for themselves.

Many today follow famous TV preachers who smile all the time and who are not sober, grave and temperate and who say they don't preach about sin or hell, thats not their ministry.

Many today have a wrong understanding of the Old time preachers as being some legalistic men who just scared the hell out of people and tried to frighten them into the kingdom

But Jesus often spoke of hell and the dangers of it. he was even very descriptive of the pain and horror to come.

Its not just enough though to preach about the dangers of hell. Sin needs to be exposed and the gospel as well given. But when sin is exposed and the rebellious stand in defiance and care not the dangers of hell and whats to come will be known and preached.

Why did Jesus say to some "How can you escape the damnation of hell?"

also we see in a prophetic sense the laodicean church in Revelaltion. They are rich and increased with goods and think they have need of nothing , but don't know that they are wretched miserable poor blind and naked. Why don't they know? because it is not taught and exposed.Jesus said he would spew them out of his mouth and he said in whom he loves he rebukes and chastens. But today many false teacher would rebuke such talk by Jesus to the laodiceans as unloving and not the way to win friends and influence people. But they would be wrong.

Some look at preaching about sin and hell as legalism, which it is not

John Wesly said this,

"... Love the strictest preaching best. That which most searches the heart, and shows you wherein you are unlike Christ. That which presses you most to love Him with all your heart, and serve Him with all your strength."

From Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God

"O Sinner! Consider the fearful Danger you are in: 'Tis a great Furnace of Wrath, a wide and bottomless Pit, full of the Fire of Wrath, that you are held over in the Hand of that God, whose Wrath is provoked and incensed as much against you as against many of the Damned in Hell: You hang by a slender Thread, with the Flames of divine Wrath flashing about it, and ready every Moment to singe it, and burn it asunder; and you have no Interest in any Mediator, and noth- ing to lay hold of to save yourself, nothing to keep off the Flames of Wrath, nothing of your own, noth- ing that you ever have done, nothing that you can do, to induce God to spare you one Moment.
