Don’t know about Australia but in the US we have professional shooting teams which do compete with assault rifles.Semi Automatic Assault Rifles are not designed for sporting purposes, but for warfare.
The punishment would be to force all gun owners to surrender their guns. That's what the mayor of Christchurch wants. Frankly I think that is a knee-jerk reaction. Many active NZrs enjoy pig and deer hunting in the NZ bush, and farmers need firearms to deal with rabbits, rats, etc that invade their farms. Those gun-owners are not the villians here.
Granted, except a farmer in the McKenzie Country in the South Island says that the large number of rabbits invading farms needs a semi-automatic rifle to keep the numbers down, although of a lower calibre. No one needs a semi-automatic to hunt rabbits, pigs and deer.
it will have no effect . any one willing to do these sort of extreme things will go to extremes to get it done . Nz already has strict gun laws ..The gun man used five guns, he had licenses for all of them. I get the satire of your reaction but there is something here worth mentioning, the foundation of a free people is a moral consensus. You know they are going to go for stricter gun control, guess we will have to wait and see how that works out for them.
No one needs a semi-automatic to hunt rabbits, pigs and deer.
Banning a weapon doesn't reduce the bloodlust of your populace, it just tells them to select another weapon.
Good point. My point however, is the limitation of weapons doesn't solve the problem. So why is US not selling heavy machine guns or mortars to the general populace ?
The guns are already restricted everywhere. It is just a matter of where the line is drawn. If you need an assault rifle for selfdefence or hunting you are living in a very curious neighbourhood.
Why worry about whether rocket man gets a nuke? Nukes don’t kill people, people kill people!
the only advantage being (and it is admittedly an advantage ) mass killing like this become more difficult .so it does increase a perception of safetyDidn't the UK have a gun ban? then knifing deaths increased.
Banning a weapon doesn't reduce the bloodlust of your populace, it just tells them to select another weapon.
So if this man had walked into a mosque with a knife, do you really think he would have been able to kill 50 people?Guns don't kill people. People kill people, and not only with guns.
Did you ever think that they did try thoughts and prayers and that is why they are calling for restrictions on guns?sheesh - did they even TRY thoughts and prayers?
Exactly. So if this man had walked into a mosque with a knife, do you really think he would have been able to kill 50 people?
Does anyone question the rise in mass shootings in the past 5 years or so? Does it seem strange that this was never a thing until more recently? Has anyone looked into the statistics that almost every shooting was during a rehearsal of the exact shooting? They had police and military on the grounds enacting a shooting, and all of a sudden a "real" shooting begins? What are the chances?
sheesh - did they even TRY thoughts and prayers?
What world do you live in where you think you’ll both be mobbed by throngs of people looking to do you harm - and also in that moment have had the fortune of carrying around a gun capable of handling that? lolWell, you could restrict guns to two-shot derringers. Those can't be used in mass-shootings. Although, when it comes to being mobbed by a gang of angry thugs one does want a weapon that can be used for mass murder.
sheesh - did they even TRY thoughts and prayers?
