But not everyone has lots of Ram or a config like you. TO each their own some of the smaller systems don't need this service. Each computer must be custom tuned for the individual using their system, Some need this, some need that. I am trying to help someone with a smaller system, So you just butt in and take over, no problem do it, It is her choice, I have plenty of others to help. This was not posted for your benifit, And I refuse to get into a debate about abouts the specifics for all the different needs of each person.and each system, what works for you may indeed not work for her. No offense, but the purpose of an internet forum is so that many people can provide input on a single topic. You made a suggestion, and someone disagreed with you. It wasn't a personal attack, it was simply another suggestion. One on one conversation is what the PM system is for.

And also, this has nothing to do with the amount of RAM or the configuration of one's computer, because the indexing occurs when the computer is not in use.

I think we can establish that yes, turning off indexing will probably increase performance, but I doubt it will be by any significant margin. If someone does a lot of searching, they should leave it on. If they don't, it might be better to turn it off.

Personally, I have always had mine turned off, because I never search on my computer.

I agree, I addressed this Fix to a single person. I should have taken it to a private PM. I responded to a direct Question asked of Me, Again I should have taken it to a private PM instead of people taking it wrong, No offence intended. Messages that are aimed at a specific person should go private. instead of public to keep miss understandings down. My fault I know better....Mrghost...

That is how it has always worked in this forum among others, a person has a question and they receive different answers. If you want to have it all your way and not have people “butt in” then start your own support site.

Simple fact is if someone uses search on their computer, such as searching through docs, then turning off indexing is not a good idea unless one uses an alternative to do the job. What is the point of having a computer system if you turn off all the things you may use? If she turns off indexing just to “try it” though she does use search, it could take two days before indexing can be reconstructed if turned back on realizing she needed it. And yes, indexing does not run while the user is active with the computer, the actual performance gain is marginal. Before I’d turn it off completely, I’d follow the instructions I provided on how to tune the indexing system for better performance (in provided link), before just turning it off all together.

Hmm? I'm not dragging anything along. You gave a suggestion, I gave a different one, you said I'm butting in, I rebuked that, you say drop it, I say fine... but my suggestion still stands
