  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Name a nation greater than the US and why

There are way to many people within America trying to destroy our history and our constitution! They preach their socialism and trash talk our country!

Second, would you be okay if the government made you pay off my car and home loans? If not, why is student loan any different?

Because economically, your people are considered a resource, and educating them grows your resource base. Car and home loans are consumer expenses, and are generally not considered to grow your country's resource base--they only stimulate demand for cars and homes. Publically underwritten car loans for U.S.-made-only cars I'm sure would gain a noticeable amount of support.

If states invested more in their universities and community colleges, they would bolster their economy with an educated populace. If they weren't so.heavily in debt they would buy homes and build our economy. That's what you don't want?

It is my belief that people who do not think that America is the greatest nation on Earth, are holding us back.

I am horrified and appalled at what so many are willing to settle for for that status? Children in cages? 20 million uninsured? A diminishing middle class? Soldiers on food stamps (SNAP)? Rising pollution? Rampant corruption in Washington?

My standards are higher than that, and am working towards making America at least as great as it was on January 19, 2017...or better.

One persons phobia is another's wisdom. Middle eastern Muslim male culture is very, very different than European. They have no intention of assimilating into European culture.

Look, Rubbish posted as fact!

I think the biggest issue that I have seen on this thread is that progressives have a very different ideas of what makes a country "great". Although not perfect, it constantly strives to become more perfect with every generation. America has a system of government has been the so great that countless other countries have adopted a similar structure. The United States was the first country to recognize the idea of God given human rights and created a constitution to protect them. No other country has done more to advance democracy and freedom in history. Not because we forced it upon them, but because people wanted and demanded the freedoms that the United States provided. Even after the United States is gone, history will compare it to ancient Greece and Rome for its contribution to civilization.

My parents emigrated from the United States to Canada when I was a kid. I'm really grateful they did. I definitely feel like our quality of life is better here. The healthcare has been awesome. I'm going to a university that is ranked in the top 5 in the world for my field. The tuition is super low in comparison to top colleges in the US. Some of the top colleges in the US also don't award academic scholarships, bc everybody who gets in would be deserving of one. I was given a full scholarship plus a personal living stipend plus a laptop! The healthcare system here is on point. That had been my parents' main priority. It's been great for us.

I feel safe & secure here. Maybe our military isn't as big as the US' but it's big enough. There was a shooting at my sister's school in WA. I also saw a man shot to death outside of a school, also in a great area. We've had isolated violent events here. The schools here don't make you do drills to prepare you for a school shooting. Every school I went to in the US did.

New Zealand.

Because with less than 2% of our population they still kick our butts in the only sport that matters.

And there were still women hitchhiking when even the men in the U.S. had stopped doing so because it was too dangerous.

Nope! The US is now the GOAT for sports thx to the women's soccer team!!!!!!

I do really like NZ tho, we finally went there. It's so super beautiful I can't even put it into words. I would be happy living there.

Wait, I forget was it the liberals or the conservatives that voted for the person who's campaign slogan was MaKe America Great Again? Sounds like those are the people who don't think America is that great.

Let me see if I follow your reasoning: You want all those who deny what a wide range of measures clearly demonstrate - that the USA is well down the list - to leave.

You will be left with a nation of people either incapable, or unwilling, to evaluate evidence and draw conclusions.

Right, that’ll make America great.

Are the fools you're referring to Trump and his fans? Their slogan is literally MAGA. If they believed America was already great then the slogan would be illogical.

Or was this whole post meant to be facetious? I mean your user name is the same as the porn actress Trump's lawyer went to prison for paying off to hide his sleazy adultery. Poe's Law.

As a descendant of Native Americans, I would like to know when America has ever been great. Maybe America has only been great in the last 55 years since minorities have had civil rights and equality to white people. But that's a terrible track record for a 243 year old nation that claims it was founded on freedom, liberty and justice for all, as well as proclaimed that ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL.

"When Donald Trump says, 'Make America Great Again,' what time period is he talking about? A lot of people overlook that America's history has been built upon injustice against other racial groups, including Native American people." Vanessa Bowen, Native American artist and activist.

I think Trump frames everything around himself. He probably thinks America was the greatest when he felt the greatest about himself. When he was a young adult in the 60s, 70s, 80s. He didn't have to fight in Vietnam bc he was privileged & got fake excuses, so for him that time was great. He said not getting sexually transmitted diseases was as hard for him as Vietnam. That's his mindset. For others age, that time really wasn't great at all. They were fighting in Vietnam or losing friends & relatives there. He didn't have to work hard to get into college or pay for it, his brother pulled strings. He lived his whole life as a trust fund baby. He didn't have to worry about being discriminated against bc of his race or gender like other people fighting for Civil Rights did. He got sued for racial discrimination, shrugged it off. In the 80s he grew his fame though we now know a lot of it was all fake - he lost a billion in a decade. His first wife said he raped her when he was in pain after having a hair transplant surgery, so being married to him wasn't all that great. He got to sue as a way of bullying ppl into submission. He always got what he wanted. The only thing he can't get is his youth back. I think MAGA is just about this fantasy for him.

I think other old men want to feel like how Trump did back in the 80s. They can't have it both ways, say that they want to make America great again then call it unpatriotic to not claim that America is already the greatest. But Trump is notorious for being illogical.

I've asked a few Trump supporters when America allegedly stopped being great. I've received different answers, but one similar answer I repeatedly heard from some of them was very disturbing.

Is the greatness of the country determined by how many freebies the government hands out in spite of its high taxes? Second, would you be okay if the government made you pay off my car and home loans? If not, why is student loan any different? That, in my opinion is the opposite of great.

The greatness of a country is determined by the well-being and happiness of it's citizens.

I don't understand how you can claim the US is the greatest since you got millions of homeless people, a good chunk of them with mental illnesses.
Most of your working conditions are abysmal, no paid maternity leave, only couple of days of holidays and sick days, no unions.
Your healthcare system is insane. People are in crushing debt because they were unfortunate enough to get sick. I mean for crying out loud, Breaking Bad is about a middle class family father getting cancer who has to cook meth to pay for his medical bills.

And these are only the biggest problems.
