You still don't get it, do you?Indeed it is in the past tense. However if you said "God had placed Lucifer in charge of music" then this would infer that he is no longer in charge. It is like I said "I had him as a manager". Instead of " I placed him as a manager". Now when you say "God placed Lucifer in charge" then unless you show that Lucifer is no longer in charge then Lucifer is still in charge.
