  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Such is the desperation to avoid the reality of life around us.
That's an interesting point of view.
Just wondering, but could we also suppose that might be a driving force behind the interest and fascination in Science fiction?

I'm all for erzats possible worlds. Modal Logic is powerful; that's all there is to it. But I have never been able to embrace David Lewis's assertion that all possible worlds are concrete worlds. I know why he makes that claim; I just disagree. As far as physics goes and multiple worlds (universes), I just don't have the training or understanding to make a claim one way or the other. Still, I'm fascinated to hear from those who do.

The ridicule that Hugh Everett experienced, and others, is unfortunate. We have never learned anything new by holding onto old ideas with a death grip. Even our experience of faith changes, or it stagnates and dies on the idol of certainty.
