"House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., drew criticism after telling reporters on Tuesday that Republicans are blurring faces in security footage from the Jan. 6 Capitol attack to protect the rioters. “We have to blur some of the faces of persons who participated in the events of that day because we don’t want them to be retaliated against and to be charged by the DOJ,” said Johnson, who played a key role in former President Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn his 2020 election loss.

I realize the FBI already has all the videos, but for all those internet sleuths who have been hunting down those in participated in criminal acts, it's clear Johnson's goal is protection.

Ya, blurring their faces, it is too late for that. Those videos are out there for all to see, mostly.

And why protect them?

From what I recall, the FBI hasn't released them in totality.
McCarthy gave them to one of FOXnew's talking heads, but they didn't release them in there entirety.
McCarthy also said he would do the same for other outlets, but that never happened.
He is protecting them, but from what I recall, there hasn't been a complete unfettered public release.

'because we don’t want them to be retaliated against...and to be charged by the DOJ'.

That's simply not credible. It would be a horrendous thing to have said in private and then have it exposed. But to stand in front of reporters and actually say that? I had to watch the video clip to see if there was any suspicion of a deep fake problem. But it looks entirely genuine. And it' not a slip of the lip. He emphasized that part. The bolding above is actually a good representation of how he said it.

Stunned.

Why is Mike Johnson protecting those ANTIFA thugs who attacked our Capitol and tried to get it pinned on Trump supporters?
"Antifa are the nation's most precious resource and must be protected at all cost. Under no circumstances can we put antifa in danger, they are special, pure, and rare like a gleaming diamond or a snow white coat, we must protect them."

It's always helpful when they say the quiet part out loud.

In this case, they is the "Speaker of the House" -- number 3 in the US Government pecking order.

Liz Cheney refers to Johnson as a "collaborator":
“If you look at what Donald Trump is trying to do, he can’t do it by himself. He has to have collaborators,” Cheney said in an interview on “CBS News Sunday Morning.” “And the story of Mike Johnson is a story of a collaborator.”

The former Wyoming representative said Johnson knew what he was doing in supporting Trump’s attempts to overthrow the last election and “knows now that what he’s doing and saying is wrong.”

“He’s willing to do it in an effort to please Donald Trump, and that’s what makes it dangerous,” Cheney said in the interview set to air Sunday.

Please note, he said he was releasing the videos for the sake of "transparency" for the American people.

I could care less about why he released them. I am mightily disturbed by what he said as noted. That he didn't want people identified so that they couldn't be charged. Try to focus on that.

One would think a person holding such a high office would be bright enough to know what "transparency" means.

It's clear that Johnson's goal is political theatre.

The DOJ etc have the footage already. So obscuring faces does nothing to "protect" people committing crimes from the law. This means Johnson's narrative is a lie. It is deceit.

If it were truth, let's say, in an imaginary reality, Johnson had the footage and the DOJ had requested it under subpoena, and Johnson took it upon himself to obscure the identities of those committing crimes, so as to thwart or impede the Justice department being able to investigate these crimes. Well that obscuring of identities would be a crime in itself. It would be "accessory after the fact" if he was intending to help criminals get away with a crime.

Johnson is making out that he is doing this, in his narrative to the public. But it is pure theatre. He has not been asked to provide the footage to the DOJ (they already have it). All he is doing, is presenting it to the public, his lie about the reason why he is obscuring faces is just for theatre, for a false narrative. To fuel this distrust the MAGA base has in the government and Justice system. To make himself as a hero in this narrative.

They get voted in, they don't have to sit and pass tests, they don't have to be bright.

CBS Interview:
Cheney is hawking a book on her book tour right now. Anything and everything she says should be taken with a grain of salt. Her voters didn't even believe her back home.

"Cheney’s defeat appears to be the second worst for a House incumbent in the last 60 years, when you look at races featuring only one incumbent. As of Wednesday afternoon, she trailed Hageman by 37.4 points, which is just worse than California Rep. Marty Martinez’s loss by 37.2 points to fellow Democrat Hilda Solis in a 2000 blanket primary."

I can understand why you would think that...but a lot of the footage doesn't look very criminal at all, and in the interest of justice, it seems like a good idea to not put them in the danger of a corrupt DOJ.

She's the only one of the lot who has ethics and a backbone. A true patriot and the party didn't want her. That says a lot about the current state of affairs.

As far as I understand it, she is Republican Conservative through and through. 100% supportive on the Conservative policies and stances.
And the only problem the voters have with her is that she had concerns with and wanted to investigate the attack on the Capital.

The Republicans didn't initially want a house investigation, then they were willing to offer their list of Republicans to be included (but only if certain members that were likely to be subject of the investigation, were to be included), then they pulled their list. Which later D Trump said it was a big mistake for Republicans to pull their list. Well Cheney did go on the committee and did provide a Republican voice, but the MAGA voters hated her for that.
