North Carolina schools chief loses primary to home-schooling parent critical of ‘radical agendas’

Superintendent of Public Instruction Catherine Truitt lost Tuesday’s Republican primary to Michele Morrow, a home-schooling parent and conservative activist who has accused public schools of indoctrinating students with left-leaning views on race and gender.

[She will face a Democrat in the general election.]

Homeschooling, ‘indoctrination,’ Jan. 6: A look at NC’s new GOP superintendent candidate

Morrow, a registered nurse and former missionary, has been home-schooling her children for 16 years. Her children used to attend public schools when they lived in Texas and Colorado. They haven’t attended public schools in North Carolina.

Morrow, who describes herself as a “lifelong Christian conservative,” has made a number of social media posts that have been critical of Islam and Muslims.

In 2020, Morrow said on X that the goal of Islam is “evil” and that ”it’s a “political cult.” She also posted comments such as “ban Islam” and “ban Muslims from elected offices.” Morrow apologized for her anti-Islamic comments during her 2022 school board campaign.

Morrow was among the Trump supporters who answered his call to march on the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021 to protest the certification of Joe Biden as the winner of the 2020 presidential election.

Morrow said she [did not enter the Capitol and] left the area when ordered by the authorities, unlike other protesters who stormed the Capitol Building.

Totally the sort of person who should be on a school board.

I will congratulate the Democratic candidate for state superintendent of schools in North Carolina in advance of the November election. Congratulations, Mr. Green. Do you think the residents of the Research Triangle and the bustling metropolitan areas will vote for a woman who doesn't even send her child to the schools? No way!

MEET MO

Maurice “Mo” Green has strived to be a champion for public education in North Carolina throughout a professional career that has included being a school district superintendent, a chief executive for a large foundation that awards grants supporting public education and a school board attorney.

Mo served as the executive director of the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation from 2016-2023. Prior to ZSR, Mo served more than seven years as superintendent of Guilford County Schools – the third largest district in North Carolina. Before Guilford County Schools, Mo joined Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools in 2001 as general counsel. In 2006, he was named chief operating officer and later moved into the role of deputy superintendent. Mo began his career as a lawyer in private practice after doing two United States judicial clerkships. He has a bachelor’s degree in political science and economics and a law degree, both from Duke University. Mo is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha and Sigma Pi Phi (the Boulé) fraternities. Mo is a longtime resident of North Carolina. He is married and has two adult children.

As you said, I think we can call that one.

GOP school candidate who demanded Obama's execution doubles down after being exposed

A new report revealed Thursday that the North Carolina Republican nominee for state superintendent had repeatedly called for former President Barack Obama to be publicly executed for treason — and she's responding by doubling down on her demands.

Morrow, a registered nurse and a homeschooling advocate who would oversee schools if elected, has made a number of other inflammatory claims on social media, including that President Joe Biden should be executed for telling people to wear masks during the COVID-19 pandemic, and that China stationed thousands of troops in Canada to rig the 2020 election. She has also pushed █████ conspiracy theories, including the idea that ██████ are █████ the ████ of children to stay ██████ ██████.

"Qanon conspiracy theories are not allowed on CF."

I have reason to believe that this can include quoting obviously crazy people saying obviously crazy things.
