And deer... the deer were really out last night. I had a late night at my job and on the way home I almost hit deer two separate times. The second time was a herd of deer...

I work in a small city and to get home I have to take country roads... My home is in the Irish Hills.

Well, what can you tell me about it?

I'm doing some background investigation while mulling whether or not to apply for a job there. I've been as far north as Saginaw, but never to Traverse City or the UP.

So any information you have about the area, people, things to do, churches, culture, etc. is appreciated.

Wineries, Interlochen I believe is in Traverse City, lots of cherries, lots of vegetable - fruit stands when in season are what I remember....lots of outdoor activities, lots of things to see on history, Lake Michigan, Quakers, and the people? We found them friendly....I do not know of a specific church....
My husband has golfed there and enjoyed it...

And 68 and we have a lot of wind in the Irish Hills!

I have shared before that I work in a very old Catholic University... What a lot of howling and the clanging today.

But, I do not mind. I love working here, the howling wind and noises, and also I enjoy the spirit of the sweet Sisters/Nuns....

I thought it was a very nice town.

Not real big but big enough to offer about everything.

Its on a bay of Lake Superior and is kind of a vacation spot as there are lots of resorts along the shore.

I saw a college, a couple of state parks, an airport, a couple of full service hospitals, a museum, a quaint downtown and gorgeous shoreline and beach, a myers, walmart, a nice big mall, several mini malls and about every resturaunt chain as well as allot of mom and pop places. The residents were always nice.

As far as Churches I can only speak for Catholic and will offer that as a guage in case your looking for other.

I attended a St Francis that had 4 Masses on Sunday and a Highschool, There was a St. Mary's with an elementary school and a St. Patricks I think too that I never saw but heard of. There is also a small carmelite monestery there and I believe it all falls under the diocese of Gaylord MI.

The only consideration for me to live there would be where one wanted to go from there as towns get a bit more isolated once you get north of Saginaw but not everyone may feel the same about that. Personally I like isolated but my significant other doesn't as she is a burb-ite from downriver Detroit and thats where her family is.

I haven't been to the UP, but everyone at work
talks like it is like a whole other country....tons
of snow. It is beautiful up here...the people
are SUPER NICE. I came from a big town
(Ft. Worth, Texas and St. Petersburg, FL),
and Traverse seems more like a rural area.

In the summer time, the traffic tends
to be a little hectic--especially if you drive
into Traverse from the Williamsburg/Acme
area.

What kind of work do you do?

It actually is located on the bay of Lake Michigan,
and there seems to be a lot of stores, etc. here, now.

There's a:

Mall, Walmart, Target, KMart, Christian
Book Store, several theatres, shopping centers & outlets...
(Old Navy, Gap, Bass, to name a few
of the outlets)

ooops did I get the lake wrong? Sry about that, it was wet, hows that? ^_^ The place I always stayed had two lounges, on on the outside with a deck, a vollyball court on the beach, jetski rentals and a dock with catamoran trips. (expensive though).

Several theaters yea, I saw one by Outback, One in the Mall and an old timey one that re-opened up in the downtown area last fall.

Where was the Christian book store? I missed that.
