I do believe in keeping the Sabbath. I stick to clean meats.

But...

I don't read Ellen White, nor do I believe that it's important to. I've been told she's written some neat stuff, but only one book matters, and that's the Holy Bible, and only one person matters, and that's Jesus.

And as for music I listen to basic Christian stuff like Casting Crowns and Jeremy Camp, but I love Holy Hip Hop :) Most adventists don't like drums.... Oh well :)

So yeah, don't know if this is what "Progressive/Moderate Adventists" means?

Welcome, IPC. I'm glad you're here.

In this forum, you'll find many different flavors. You'll likely agree with certain posters more than others. You'll find a definition of progressive SDAs in the sticky at the top of the Progressive SDA page, but you'll find many different points of view here. In this forum, we have a mixture of traditional SDAs, progressive SDAs, former SDAs and never-been-SDAs. From my perspective, it seems that all of us here have a love for individual Seventh-day Adventists, even if we don't all agree on points of doctrine.

I share your taste in music and your pleasure in music that contains drums. Having grown up SDA, I remember well what it was like to be told that even Twila Paris was sinful due to her use of drums (seems pretty silly now, years later).

A big topic for discussion in this forum is the sabbath. I personally think we beat that drum a bit too much. Although not all of us are sabbatarians, all of us believe that the individual believer can and should decide for himself whether special days have value for him. For example, although I'm not a sabbatarian, I would not want to stand in the way of a person who finds value in the sabbath. Many of us are more troubled by the way in which the SDA denomination has attached the seventh-day sabbath to the "end of times" through its teachings on the "mark of the beast" and the "seal of God."

You'll even find some discussion about the Bible, its inspiration and intended use. A spectrum of viewpoints is represented here.

So, welcome. I hope you stick around and explore.

Love the pun.

Well I definitely would like to engage in those conversations. Sometimes I feel the need NOT to because the thread is so big my post might get ignored, but I don't want to start a NEW thread because I've already noticed many about the Sabbath as it is!

Welcome IPreachChrist,

Your view point regarding EGW, the Bible and Jesus is right on the money. EGW adds light to the Bible but it's the same light that you and I could get if we took the time to study and pray for ourselves.

We use drums at my church. But the non-use of drums is not a SDA doctrine nor is it only limited to SDA. Many denominations feel the same way about not using drums. To me they missed the forest because of the trees.

We have a thread active on the denomination-specific theology forum area of CF, and you might have a fun time perusing some of the unique beliefs of the seventh-day Adventist church here --> What are 7th day adventists?

the non-use of drums is not a SDA doctrine.

No, but it's a very widespread practice.

I wonder what Ted Wilson had in mind when he said, "Don't go backwards into confusing pagan settings where music and worship become so focused on emotion and experience that you lose the central focus on the Word of God."

If you want to join a church, it's important to understand it completely first.

I didn't think he was talking about joining the church, I thought he was talking about hanging out here in this sub-forum discussing the various issues we discuss...

I know their doctrine. I agree with most of it. I will always go with the church that has the most light. And as of now, I feel that the SDA church has that.

That's why I'm here. You will never find a perfect church but there are those who have more light than others.

Interesting... let me ask, given that there are about 22 world religions, 38,000 denominations just here in the United States, not including all the off-shoots of some of the main denominations, how many of those thousands of belief systems have you studied to now conclude that the sda church has "the most light?"

Them's fightin' words!

Please explain how the doctrine of the Morman church, and the Roman Catholic church, and the Assemblies of God, and the Reformed Church in America, and the Jehovah's Witness (to name a few) all teach the same stuff, as opposed to SDA'ism. And what is this Babylon stuff?
