  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Jesus said If you love Me, keep My commandments John14:15 Exo20:6 the accusation of loving Him and doing what He asks as it being legalism, will need to be addressed with Him. Its not something that we can find in our Bibles.
Keep “My” commandments which are the two love commandments and do not include the 4th commandment. Unless you want to post a verse that states that the Christian is required to keep the Jewish sabbath.

Only God can determine what are His commandments Exo20:6 Deut4:13 Exo31:18, not man, lets not elevate ourselves in His place.

Deut6:5 is what Jesus quoted which was said when the Ten Commandments that included the Sabbath was being repeated 40 years after God wrote them before entering into the promise land.

Ironically many never made it in their promise land over this same commandment you are claiming is not included that kept them out. Eze 20:13 Eze20:15-16

Only God can define His commandments, and He did, written and spoken by Him personally Exo31:18 it is His Testimony that sits under His mercy seat. Not once did God ever call the Sabbath, the Jewish Sabbath, man did this, not God, God called it My holy day, the holy day of the Lord that He made for mankind. To tell God He is wrong about one of His commandments , the one He said Remember that He blessed and set aside for holy use Exo20:8, I do not believe is a good idea, but He does allow us exercise free will. just as He did for those who came before us Eze20:16 Many didn't think they had to listen to Him and He called them rebellious, it cost many dearly, sadly not much has changed.

Is a theological question. We discuss salvation in this website all the time. You have not answered the question and you have not posted a verse thst requires the Christian to keep the Jewish sabbath so your argument is quite thin.

It was a yes or no question. Its simple. If I rest a few hours later on Sunday and love my God with all my heart and love my neighbor with all my heart, can I be saved?

Yes or no.

I was part of the advisory team that chose the Nicene creed as the statement of faith for CF. We added all sorts of footnotes to keep it neutral and not advance one church over another. CF used to be much larger than it is now and allowed just about everyone to post. We had an assortment of forums for folks like the Mormons, JWs, Gnostics, Christadelphians, non trinitarians, etc. etc. The Nicene creed is widely accepted by most mainstream and theologically orthodox Churches. This allowed us to determine who could post where and to keep the peace. Today it is still the standard but we no longer allow non trinitarian and cults to post here. You don’t have to assert the historical meaning but you have to post consistent with the contents.
I also was on staff for a number of years and the Nicene Creed, as CF's standard of orthodoxy in the context of which it is presented in the site rules. Since it is the standard for posting and debating here, it is a fair question to ask.

It is a typical ploy to not answer for fear of incriminating ones self.

This thread is closed for review as we are getting a number of reports.

FWIW, the Statement of Purpose for this forum has this:

Although the Law of God is pleasing to a believer it is not a necessary requirement for salvation. (Psalms 119:174; Galatians 3:10, Galatians 5:18)

MOD HAT ON

This thread has had a cleanup to remove some flaming of Nicene Christians.

In particular, the Orthodox Christians hold the creed in high esteem as the Symbol of Faith, and they should not be flamed for their beliefs.

The Nicene creed also needs to be discussed much more delicately that this to prevent Statement of Faith violations from being issued, as the beliefs there determine who is Christian and who is not, and thus who is allowed to post here. Negative remarks against the creed are a good way to get banned to the support area and have a conversation with the admins about what exactly one believes.

It is my understanding that the Nicene creed is being used as a summary of Christian beliefs as supported by Scripture. The CF Statement of Faith includes the Scripture references alongside each line of the Nicene Creed to satisfy those who esteem Scripture more than the creed itself in their personal beliefs. However, that is no license to flame those who esteem the creed more highly (such as the Orthodox) and claim they are not Christians.
