The spirit poor (are the) blessed (ones), since the heaven's kingdom is theirs.

Or, Blessed are the poor in spirit, that theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

I changed the translation wording a little from the usual translation of the familiar verse, to get away from the idea of makarioi as a verb, while they are blessed by God, they are the people who are blessed by God.

μακάριοι: Adjective, nominal plural,
from μακάριος, makarios: blessed, happy.
A prolonged form of the poetical makar (meaning happy); supremely blest; by extension, fortunate, well off. . .

The peace-makers are the blessed, since they will be called Sons of God.

υἱοὶ: sons, later, the plural was often periphr., iatron uieis, retoron uieis sons of physicians, sons of orators, i.e. physicians, orators themselves; so in Homer, uies Achaion for Achaioi.

uies Achaion means sons of Achaia, Achaioi means Achaians.

I'm not giving the theology of this verse, just what I believe the translation is. :cool:
