Well...my apologies for their obvious misinformation. Their comment is NOT true and if you hear someone say that to you again, please correct them kindly.
The Pope has stated in documentation that we are in essence "separated bretheren" and that non-Catholic Christians have the same access to Christ, salvation, etc., that Catholics have.
The part that is different is where Sacred Tradition and Sacraments come into play and anyone can see that there is a difference.
The Catholic Church has all 7 sacaraments where the Protestant church has, I believe only 2: Baptism and Confirmation. The church claims it contains the full deposit of faith from Christ and the Disciples.
Someone correct me if I am wrong on the sacaraments.
Does that make Catholics better than Protestants? Absolutely not and if someone tells you it does, they're wrong.
We believe we have the complete deposit of teachings, both written and oral. That's all. Protestants do not accept Oral/Sacred Tradition, Holy Orders, Eucharist, Anointing of the Sick or treat Marriage as a sacrament - its all factual.
And its not meant as a slam, putdown or a way to "one-up" the other. We argue over this very issue every day.
