• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Your the one who said "I didn't think ED bana had an argument for this scripture".

But did you give one word of substance???

You sure have not refuted one thing?

So what is your point?

Or do you NOT have one outside of a personal attack?

oh just being open about our debate, nothing personal.

here is the substance along with our debate...

Revelation Chapter 3 verse 5 states that those who don't overcome will be blotted out of the book of life. Is this spiritual too? How can this apply to non overcoming believers?

also in chapter 2 verse 7 it says that those who don't overcome will not be able to eat of the tree of life and live forever. How can this apply to non overcoming believers?

so how do you answer those, is the tree of life spiritual? I don't think so.

okay, see ya. (this is not a fun thing anymore). Especially seeing how you deal with the word of God, it is offensive.

It is suppose to be. Do you evenknow what Mt Sion is?

Romans 9:33
As it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumblingstone and rock of offence: and whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed

First you criticize my laundry list of verses that you couldn't answer btw. Then you reply with a laundry list of your own cut and paste and call it an answer? I don't think so.

A scholar is trained in critical thinking, which means that any and all religious prejudices are left at the door. Anyone who studies from a religious perspective projects his/her beliefs onto the evidence, which then invalidates it by trying to match evidence to a pre drawn conclusion. A good scholar does not contaminate his/her own evidence, but rather draws conclusions based on the weight of the evidence.
Academia can be it's own religion. Even more suspect than that of a particular denomination. Academia is notoriously atheistic, which is anathema to making rational decisions in a spiritual context.

I am afraid I am going to sound insulting, so let me share right off the bat that I have no wish to be. Academia is a discipline. It is not understood by undisciplined people. It's a form of self control that reveals facts so that they may be properly interpreted. It is certainly nothing to be feared or hated.
If you sincerely wish to know what I know, this is how it is done. There are no short cuts; That web site is not the end, in fact it is only the beginning.

.
Then, you too can have people question your knowledge :)

I've got a bachelor's in computer science. I am no stranger to academia, which is precisely why I know it's very real limitations and biases. Especially when it comes to religious studies. For example, when dating Hindu scriptures and the birth times of religious figures Western scholars lobomtize the firgures, dating Krishna to live only a few hundred years before Buddha, to give a specific example. Academia has an anti-religious and even an anti-mystical, materialist reductionist point of view. It works great in some fields like mathematics, but it's approach to religion and mysticism is atrocious. If you are really a Gnostic then you should be a mystic and understand this. The core of Gnosticism is not treated any more kindly by academia than any other form of myticism.

The debate is a far cry from a tit for tat.

We are debating God's Word if it is spiritual or literal. We are debating if God is going to torture billion upon billions of lost souls for ever and ever with no mercy and God who is omnipresence will be helpless to do anything about it. Or will God ultimately save all people.

This is one of the most serious debates a believer can have.

I'm not taking sides. I'm agreeing with Lord H, the debate had degenerated into a hasty tit-for-tat.

Yes, it asks the question "what do we believe God is like?"
