Governors run their states, nothing unusual about that.

Except when Trump wants to exert federal power, such as sending in federal officers in certain states to address some aspect of the protests. Threatening to withhold federal funds from states and school districts choosing virtual class instruction. Threatening to withhold federal funds unless states cooperate with ICE in some specific manner. Pressuring, through tweets, for states to reopen sooner than the guidelines allowed, guidelines he publicly endorsed. Through their tweets, he fomented public protests within several states.

Trump seeks to exert federal influence when he desires. The lack of any parallel federal influence for the 50 states to address the pandemic is interesting, and considering Trump’s position has been exactly as that described in the link, gives some merit to the reports.

Your comment misses the point that Trump, and the feds, could have, and still can, provide a federal response for all 50 states to follow. He hasn’t done it.

If Trump walked on water people would accuse him of lying about his weight
No chance of trump ever being mistaken for anyone else who ever walked on water.

So what do you call the federal guidelines provided to the states?

Quite specific. They're based on checking for specific genetic marks in RNA. These are called PCR tests. There's a different type of test used to see whether you've had it in the past. These are antibody tests. There's some chance another virus could trigger that. But the current and new case numbers don't use that test. They use PCR tests.

A few states were putting counts from both tests together. That caused a national outcry. I'm reasonably sure that stopped. Also, even when that was going on, sites like Covid Tracking Project were able to find the detailed data, and reported only the PCR results.

Antibody tests are controversial. They are useful for scientists who want to track what's happening in the population as a whole. But there are enough reasons why it might produce bad data for individuals that you really don't want to say "the antibody test shows I'm immune, so I don't need to worry." That's one reason why proposals such as immunity certificates haven't gone anywhere.

Fact check: Posts confuse COVID-19 viral test with COVID-19 antibody test

May we discuss the false positives and plant life samples that were submitted testing positive?
Of course there are false positives. No individual should assume that test results are completely accurate, particularly in areas with low prevalence*. But new case numbers track hospitalization and (with delay) death rates too well for there to be gross errors.

----------

* There are odd statistical properties. Suppose you had a test that produced 2% false positives. Now apply that test in a state where there are no infections. You'll see 2% positive. All of the positive results are wrong. There's no way to avoid that, because there's no way to produce a 100% reliable test. But the tests can still give you useful estimates of what's going on. Whether individuals should base treatment decisions on them depends upon the situation. If you show symptoms in an area with a substantial occurrence of the virus, it's reasonable to base treatments on a positive result.

This is one concern about screening individuals using tests, in areas where the virus is under control.

Errors can and do also occur if samples are contaminated. Some labs do better than others.

This is beyond the scope of what I was discussing. The fact is, the article has some indicia of credibility since Trump has acted, behaved, and made public comments consistent with what is stated in the article.

In all fairness, he did do it:

Opening Up America Again | The White House

...but, Donald being, well... Donald, he quickly forgot about it and abandoned it at the first sign of political inconvenience, preferring to side with the anti-lockdown protesters.

Trump defends tweets against US states' lockdowns

(You can't expect a pro-Confederate president to not switch sides every once in a while, can you?)

If Donald walked on water it would certain justify a great deal of the groveling he demands... and receives.

The President is not "Pro-Confederate". His pro-ignorant Yankee.

I'm not convinced the poster you're replying to will respond well to being asked to move to the left.
You busted me. It was a ruse. Curses! Foiled again.

Yes, I understand, it does not support your rant against Trump.

So the doctor who examined him is wrong but the fools who report the news can be accurate by just looking at his photo.
He has the physique of a lard butt. He’s just vain like old politicians and he thinks the general public is legally blind.
