  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

You've Won Your Case, Jesse Ventura ... Now, How About Letting the Widow of a Murdered Navy SEAL Off the Hook? - Fox Nation

I actually just finished reading 'American Sniper' about a month ago and I have a lot of respect for Chris. It's sad that this was still going on even after his death.
Boy it sure takes some true... *ahem* 'class' to sue the widow of a SEAL for something the dead SEAL said. Ventura long ago became irrelevant, but now he's become a complete *BLEEEP* as well

At the expense of what SEAL? Jesse Ventura? I thought it was established that he lied about that.

FWIW:
Jesse Ventura joined the Navy after high school and served for six years — four on active duty, two in the Reserves — and is a Vietnam veteran. While on active duty, he was a member of Underwater Demolition (SEAL) Team 12. He returned to Minnesota in 1973.
Ventura’s role as the Governor of Minnesota is the latest aspect of a lifetime spent serving the public in such various ways. He was the mayor of Brooklyn Park, a Navy SEAL, professional wrestler, actor and broadcaster.

But it was UDT when he was in it and it was renamed and refashioned 6-8 years later I think?

I'm no Jesse "The Body" Ventura fan. But he has every right to protect his reputation in civil litigation. The fact that Chris Kyle died tragically does not change that. The suit was filed before Kyle's death. Ventura did NOT sue Kyle's widow. Kyle's estate (if no appeal is granted) will pay the settlement.

I think it was reckless of Kyle (and his publisher) to name Ventura based on nothing but Kyle's "belief" that it was Ventura. Ventura's reputation is irreparably damaged by the book because the jury's verdict will not keep anyone from believing the story.

Ventura wasn't mentioned in the book personally, but was called "Scruff face". Kyle later said who it was (Ventura), but he wasn't actually called by name in the book.

I still believe Kyle though. I see no reason that he would lie about something like that (and he had other SEALS say the incident happened as well I believe).

By saying the man was the one in the book was the same. He defamed Ventura. Did any of these SEALS testify? The jury was overwhelmingly convinced that:

1. Was defamed
2. Damages were proven.

Kyle was reckless and, perhaps, thought he was right and could have no consequences.

Why would he lie about that? Why would another veteran shoot him at the range? A few peculiar things about him.

Seems like the jury made the right call. Evidently Chris wanted to sell a few extra books at the expense of trash talking a fellow former Seal. As a veteran, I'm not impressed with Chris at all. He brought this on his memory and his widow. All of it.

The book was making fantastic sales without him ever having to mention Ventura's name.

From what I've read and seen, although counts do vary, is that someone asked him if it was Ventura and he conceded that it was.

The jury was deadlocked, judge tells them to "keep trying" and then both sides' lawyers agree to take a vote of 8 jurors...I'm guessing that Kyle's lawyers never figured on a guilty verdict.
