First of all, the phrase "lake of fire" is used in only 5 verses of the entire Bible, and those in 3 chapters of Revelation.

"lake of fire" occurs 4 times in 4 verses

    Revelation 19:20
and is arrested<4084> Beast<2342>, and with it the False-Prophet<5578>, the one-doing the signs in view of it, in which he deceives<4105> the ones getting the mark of the beast, and the ones worshiping to the image of it.
Living were cast, the two, into the Lake of the Fire the one burning<2545> in sulfur <2303>

    Revelation 20:
10 And the Devil, the one-deceiving<4105> them, was cast into the Lake of the Fire and of sulfur<2303>, the where-are the beast and the false-prophet,
and they shall be being tormented<928> day and night into the ages of the ages.
14 And the Death and the Hades<86> were cast into the Lake of the Fire.
This the Death, the second-one, is being the Lake of the Fire .
15 And if anyone not was found in the Book of the Life having been written
, he was cast into the Lake of the Fire.

    Revelation 21:8
To the yet fearful and faithless and ones being abominated and murderers, and paramours<4205>, and enchanters<5333>, and idolaters<1496>, and to-all falsifiers<5571>,
the part of them in the Lake, the one burning<2545> Fire<4442> and sulphur<2306>, which is being the Death, the second-one.

Here is a little info gathered off the net:

If you read all the specifics of that city and the judgment of it you will have a hard time making your view stick unless you already symbolize everything else in the book. The merchants weep for her destruction for they were made rich through trading with her and no one is able to buy the luxury goods anymore. Her men are great merchants of the earth The whole world committed fornication with her and she exported sorcery, and killed many. There is no economy in the grave and the destruction comes in a single day. How can you destroy the place that is the lake of fire in a day? The US is the most likely candidate as if you look at the largest trading cities and the splendor of them they have all been made rich trading with the US. Look up Dubai, Hong Kong, Shang Hai, Taiwan, Seoul, Tokyo, all across the board. The heart of the Illuminati secret societies is in the US and the UN is the structure for global government has been funded and created by the US. The drug culture, porn and material culture also come from the US with the music industry also influencing the culture into new age satanism and the occult. The world is on a dollar system and the day the dollar collapses the US cannot fall in isolation but will take down the whole world financial system. This is what the seal judgments show that a days wage is a quart of wheat and peace is taken from the earth. Note the seals are at the beginning of the Trib and the mark of the beast is not put in until there are only 42 months to go. If we are close the US fits perhaps NYC more precisely. If you look at Zech 6 and look up Statute of Liberty Zech 6 you will see Babylon called Shinar in those days describes the statue exactly.

That view has been around awhile.
Possibly conjured up by some anti-American zionist communist Christians............
Reminds me of this quote in a favorite movie of mine :)

    Derek Flint:

"Say, why does that eagle attack me"?
    Derek Flint:
    "An anti-American eagle. It's diabolical".

The heart mind connection represents the cities conditions, But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; (Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.) but he of the freewoman was by promise. Which things are an allegory:
(I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old:Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us).
for these are the two covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage, which is Agar. For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children. But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all. seeing we are also called God's temple, Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

Matthew 11- This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. And he called the multitude, and said unto them, Hear, and understand: Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man. Then came his disciples, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Pharisees were offended, after they heard this saying? But he answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up. Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.

Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile.

John was in Spirit so you either read it spiritually as allegorical symbolism or try and apply it to historical warnings about literal kingdoms that traditions based on judging by appearance serve out as spiritual kingdom truth, He will not judge by appearance (And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation) nor make a decision based on hearsay ... And he will not be guided in his judging by what he sees, or give decisions by the hearing ...

Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.
    .

    It's all symbolism,

The Greek word for LAKE<3041>, as shown in Revelation, is used in 2 chapters of Luke [5 verses] and 3 chapters of Revelation [5 verses]
This site shows the word used in various Bible versions, [which I haven't yet studied on]:

Strong's Concordance with Hebrew and Greek Lexicon

3041. limne λίμνη (limnē) probably from 3040 occurs 10 times in 10 verses
(through the idea of nearness of shore); a pond (large or small):--lake.

3 of the events that occur in these 2 chapters is the "catching of a boat load of fish", "Jesus calming the storm", and the event of the "Kamikaze swine/demons":

    Luke 5:
1 And it came to pass, in the multitude pressing on Him to hear the word of God, that He was standing beside the lake<3041> of Gennesaret<1082>,
2 and He saw two boats standing beside the lake<3041>, and the fishers, having gone away from them, were washing the nets,
    Luke 8:22
22 And it came to pass, on one of the days, that He Himself went into a boat with His disciples, and said unto them, 'We may go over to the other side of the lake<3041>;' and they set forth,
23 and as they are sailing he fell deeply asleep, and there came down a storm of wind to the lake<3041>, and they were filling, and were in peril.
33 and the demons having gone forth from the man, did enter into the swine, and the herd rushed down the steep to the lake<3041>, and were choked.
Luke 5:1 mentions the name of a lake: the lake of Gennesaret, which according to Matt and Luk, lies by the land of Gennesaret.

G1082. Gennesaret of Hebrew origin (compare H3672); Gennesaret (i.e. Kinnereth),
a lake and plain in Palestine:--Gennesaret.

    Luke 5:1
And it came to pass, in the multitude pressing on him to hear the word of God, that he was standing beside the lake of Gennesaret<1082>(Gennēsaret),

    Mark 6:53
And having passed over, they came upon the land of Gennesaret, and drew to the shore
1082. Gennesaret Γεννησαρέτ (Gennēsaret) occurs 3 times in 3 verses
of Hebrew origin (compare 3672); Gennesaret (i.e. Kinnereth),
a lake and plain in Palestine:--Gennesaret.

That word is vaguely similar to this Greek word "Gehenna":
    1067. Geena γέεννα (geenna)of Hebrew origin (1516 and 2011);
valley of (the son of) Hinnom; ge-henna (or Ge-Hinnom), a valley of Jerusalem, used (figuratively) as a name for the place (or state) of everlasting punishment:--hell.

    Wikipedia:

According to the New Testament, Jesus was crucified at a spot outside Jerusalem called Golgotha, which in Aramaic means “place of the skull.” The Latin word for skull is calvaria, and in English many Christians refer to the site of the crucifixion as Calvary.

Jerusalem's seven hills are Mount Scopus, Mount Olivet and the Mount of Corruption (all three are peaks in a mountain ridge that lies east of the Old City), Mount Ophel, the original Mount Zion, the New Mount Zion and the hill on which the Antonia Fortress was built.

    Is it "mountains" or "hills"?

    Revelation 16:20 -
and every island did flee away, and mountains were not found,
    Revelation 17:9 -
    'Here is the mind that is having wisdom;
the seven heads are seven mountains, upon which the woman doth sit,

Here we have the mountains of Israel mentioned [which is the great supper of God in Revelation 19]
We have Jerusalem and Judah/Judea mentioned here:
    Judea and Mountains<3735> mentioned here:

    Matthew 24:16
“then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.
    Mark 13:14
“then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.
    Luke 21:21
“Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains,

The form of the Greek word <G3735> used in the above 3 verses occur in only 7 verses of the NT

Jerusalem was under Roman rule in Jesus day. Rome is the only city known as the city of seven hills despite the fact that you strived to dig up this misinformation.

Just because Israel has mountains doesn’t make it the city of seven hills. Every country has mountains. The only city of seven hills is Rome.

I understand that Rome has seven hills as a matter of fact many cities have seven hills surrounding them. I in this case think these particular seven hills are in Jerusalem.

This will conclude the study on the "lake" used in Revelation.

There are 2 other forms of the greek word for lake, all 3 having the same 1st 3 letters:
    Strong's Greek Lexicon Search Results

3041. limne probably from 3040 (through the idea of nearness of shore); a pond (large or small):--lake.

3040. limen apparently a primary word; [Compare 2568]. Occurs 3 times in 2 verses
    a harbor:--haven.[ 2568. Kaloi Limenes plural of 2570 and 3040; Good Harbors, i.e. Fairhaven, a bay of Crete:--fair havens.]
    3042. limos probably from 3007
(through the idea of destitution); a scarcity of food:--dearth, famine, hunger.

G3042 means "FAMINE", and also has the same 1st 3 letters as the former 2 Greek words.
    G3042 (YLT)
is used in all 3 verses of the Jerusalem/Temple discourses in the Gospels

Matthew 24, Mark 13 and Luke 21 harmonized

Next up, we look at the word "fire" #G4442.
I would first like to post the different derivatives of it.
It is shown as a primary root word that other words are formed from:

    4442. pur poor a primary word;
"fire" (literally or figuratively, specially, lightning):--fiery, fire.

    4443.
    pura poo-rah' from 4442; a fire (concretely):--fire.
4445. puresso poo-res'-so from 4443; to be on fire, i.e. (specially), to have a fever:--be sick of a fever.
4446. puretos poo-ret-os' from 4445; inflamed, i.e. (by implication) feverish (as noun, fever):--fever.
    4447. purinos poo'-ree-nos from 4443; fiery, i.e. (by implication) flaming:--of fire.
4448. puroo poo-ro'-o from 4442; to kindle, i.e. (passively) to be ignited, glow (literally), be refined (by implication), or (figuratively) to be inflamed (with anger, grief, lust):--burn, fiery, be on fire, try.
    4449. purrhazo poor-hrad'-zo from 4450; to redden (intransitively):--be red.
    4450. purrhos poor-hros' from 4442; fire-like, i.e. (specially), flame- colored:--red.
4451. purosis poo'-ro-sis from 4448; ignition, i.e. (specially), smelting (figuratively, conflagration, calamity as a test):--burning, trial.

The TR shows there are 6 unique forms of that word:

    Genesis 1:1 (KJV)
4442. pur poor a primary word; "fire" (literally or figuratively, specially, lightning):--fiery, fire.
Strong's Number G4442 matches the Greek πῦρ (pyr), occurs 74 times in 73 verses
    mGNT — 71x in 5 unique form(s) TR — 74x in 6 unique form(s)

The 1st time they are used in the Gospels:

    Matthew 3:10
“And even now the ax is laid to the root of the trees.
Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
    Luke 3:9
“And even now the ax is laid to the root of the trees.
Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.”

It only occurs in 1 verse of John:

    John 15:6
    “If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered;
and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.

This verse is concerning a man who brought his son to Jesus who had a mute spirit

    Mark 9:22
“And often he has thrown him both into the fire and into the water to destroy him. But if Thou can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.”

    1st time in Revelation:

    Revelation 1:14
His head and hair were white like wool, as white as snow,
    and His eyes like a flame of fire;
