Now, if hell were the lake of fire, how could it be thrown into the lake of fire?
And we know what happens to death..."death is no more"
Add to this the number of times God says things like "the soul that sins shall die" or "the wages of sin is death"....
After awhile a pattern emerges....
Death and the GRAVE are cast into the lake.
Isa 38:10 I said in the cutting off of my days, I shall go to... the gates of the grave....I am deprived of the residue of my years.
Jesus has the keys. Satan has no more power over death. The resurrection of Jesus Christ settled that score.
Heb 2:14-15....through death he might destroy him that... had ....the power of death, that is, the devil;
15 And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.
The Apostle's Creed says nothing about eternal damnation.
And they[bless and do not curse]will[bless and do not curse]go away to eternal punishment, and the upright to eternal life.
Matthew 25.46 says everlasting punishment.
With your approach to dialog there's nothing worth discussing. You've just declared that whatever I say as a Catholic is worthless, Thanks for that. Cheers
Sorry I'm using a tablet and I am not so good with its cut and paste options.
There is only one person to follow here: it is Jesus alone with his Spirit in us, we know what he said, but what churches say, theologians say or whoever aren't acceptable to follow. Follow the Man Jesus and his Spirit that he sends to live in you which God calls sufficient for us for our faith to make it and understand the Gospel, stop there.
By the way, The Helper (Holy Spirit) will be sufficient for you while obeying Jesus' Gospel (his commands and teachings) says the Bible. Where are all these paid middle men and grounded/implanted theologies and church commands coming from, they are not part of the sufficiency of Jesus alone & his Spirit living in you?
And they will go away to eternal punishment, and the upright to eternal life.
Matthew 25.46 says everlasting punishment.
The death referred to in the latter verse is about physical and spiritual death. I've yet to see someone sin and being annihilated. We'd all be gone if that was the case.
A soul that dies doesn't cease to exist. The soul of Adam and Eve died when they sinned, however, they weren't annihilated because of that.
"Death is no more" - Yes, for the righteous in heaven. But the wicked will still face the "second death", which is a state. You don't cease to exist when you die physically or spiritually.
Well, only the saved are delivered from the power of death through Jesus Christ. Being delivered from that is part of salvation.
But it does disprove annihilationism. How can Jesus judge the living and the dead, if death means to be annihilated?
We can look at the Nicene creed as well.
You'd think that would end the question. I guess some read eternal and everlasting as temporal just before being euthanized.
You think that death will still exist after the judgment?
According to Revelation, the lof is the "second death".
Now, if the first death was the death of my body, which is no more, what do you think the second death is?
One might think Jesus was authority enough.
Now, that's more like it.
Argue your case from the authority of Jesus Christ, not the RCC.
I may not agree with you, but at least I can respect what you have to say.
Now if we could just get you guys to do that without the snide "holier than thou" undertone...why we just might make a decent debater out of you yet, MC
I respect anyone teaching what their church teaches. I may not agree but I respect that in a person. It shows he's not relying on his own understanding. I think there is a Proverb about that.
