Personal opinion doesn't define truth or error nor does it define heresy. It Is the church that defines doctrine and heresy. Scripture has to be interpreted by the Church to define doctrine and heresy.

I thought we covered that already?
That only works for Catholics.
Most of us really don't care what your church teaches.
I'm not trying to offend you, just trying to tell you that, if you want to persuade anyone to think as you do, telling them "my church says" isn't going to be much help.

Neither Mama Kidogo Nor myself have the authority to define the church but we both have the ability to proclaim the teaching of Christ given to us by the one, holy Catholic and apostolic church. That's what we're doing.

Unto the abusing.

I think this is becoming less a debate about whether or not there is a place of eternal torment, and more a debate about whether or not the Catholic church is the final authority on what all Christians ought to believe.
Guys, with all due respect, this isn't the Middle Ages any more.
The Inquisitions are over....

With your approach to dialog there's nothing worth discussing. You've just declared that whatever I say as a Catholic is worthless, Thanks for that. Cheers

Both you and Mama Kidogo have just declared and infallible church. You both have elevated tradition of men and the pulpit to such a place the inspiration of Scriptures is in the shadows. You have REDACTED Acts 17:11 and 2 Timothy 2:15.

An empty wagon makes much noise. Tradition of men have masked out that still small Voice we need to hear.
Neither of those verses state Scripture alone is wisdom.
The second one isn't even about scripture. 2 Tim. 2:15 is not a command to read your bible. The bible wasn't even compiled when it was penned.

I don't elevate tradition of men. I Elevate Sacred Tradition taught to the Apostles by Christ. Scripture it's self is a part of Sacred Tradition.

So you don't see the Church as spotless? Christ does.

We have thrown off the chains of the RC.
Why would we willingly put them back on?

I mean, the pope is a cool guy, and all...and I wish him the best...
But he's still just a man, like everyone else. He has no authority over me.

By "we" it looks like you mean protestants or something similar, It certainly excludes me.

I think further conversation with you is likely to be time wasted.

Returning to the topic, Since Jesus Christ declares that the wicked go off to ever lasting punishment this Idea that it's really only punishment for however long it takes to be burned up in the lake of fire is untenable.

Let's get back to the topic.

The RCC didn't exist in the time of Christ. When He says "the church", He is talking about the entire church...all Christians, Catholic and otherwise.

And where does He say eternal punishment? You do know that the story of Lazarus and the rich man is a parable, right?

If name calling is the point -- then we can all call any group a 'name' when they differ with us.

There is a movie "Hell and Mr. Fudge" that describes one man's attempt to retain man-made traditions about eternal hell in the face of Matt 10:28 where God is the one who "destroys both body and soul in fiery hell" -- interesting movie that.

And Martin Luther appears to be one of the "heretics" that people love to condemn because he accepted Matt 10:28.

In more modern times -
John Wenham, Edward Fudge, Clark Pinnock and John Stott

And of course the entire Seventh-day Adventist Church. (20 million or so.. anyway)

in Christ,

Bob

As each group calls others heretics, I am wondering why bother being in any group. We follow Jesus and very personally have the helper to help us along the way to our father. Fellowship is not reserved to a church or exclusively so, but our fellowship should be more like Apostle Paul's with varied groups of Christians that believed differently yet rely on the Holy Spirit to follow Christ and respect & love each other.

By the way for inventory purposes, I believe when God destroys there is nothing left, not even a pagan belief trying to fit itself into our beliefs with the help of the terrible Heretics proclamations. Why disobey Jesus' call for us to be known by our love for each other?
