I think that they were trying to use as much of the tooling for a .30-30 lever action and cobble the so called tactical elements on it for a wow factor. I know I was almost smitten myself. That was until I held one.

No, because guns aren't inherently pro-violence. But the issue is that in America your gun laws are too lax, which allows people who ought not to have guns at all too easily being able to acquire self-loading firearms and taking out their rage on schools, workplaces, music concerts, etc. Unfortunately, people being emotional beings rather than reasonable, then go to extremes and either say "no guns!" or else "my 300 year old 2nd amendment rights for modern firearms!" I mean it's like if you had no speed limits on the roads or tried to apply 300 year old road rules in 2018. You need sensible laws, like you do about cars on the road. If you want to drive your Maserati at 185, you do it at the track, and if you want to have a self-loading firearm you require it be kept at the gun range.

There is a difference between a right and a privelege but as for our gun laws being too lax, not at all. In fact they are too restrictive. What is too lax is a government that demands to arrest parents trying to exercise proper discipline with their children. What is crazy out of control are the doctors who keep distributing mind altering drugs to normal teenagers and even kindergarten age children without restraint or oversight. They are creating the outrage and lack of moral guidance by removing the role of parents in the lives of their children. What is crazy out of control is the violent video games which laugh at self restraint. What is wildly out of control are the number of fatherless homes and parents whose days are about their personal pleasure and nothing else.

The right to keep and bear arms is a human right, our right, and it is your right as well. It is not a privilege such as doctoring or driving or hairdressing or engineering. The government has no right to interfere with our birthrights but they do anyway. As for the firearm itself, be it an automatic machine gun, or a semi-automatic Modern Modular Sport Rifle or a cracker pistol is nothing more than a device. What in the world makes the operator of a gun range any more capable or responsible for hundreds of peoples guns than me and for my own guns? Absolutely nothing. Besides, I can't get to it to protect my home and wife and neighbors if it is at the range. Now can I?

I have carried guns since I was 10 years old. For work, for pleasure, for sustenance hunting, for a variety of reasons. During a flood I had my semi-automatic pistol on my hip and a rifle slung over my shoulder as did my neighbors and as did the owners and employees of our local hardware store. After the flood was over and we were back to normal the firearms were put away. Nobody was shot, nobody even nicked by a bullet. Nor was anybody intimidated but the criminal element driving around looking to loot the evacuated homes. I was the only one that stayed back, sleeping in my garage on my boat since I didn't know how deep the water was going to rise to. After the flood waters receded these obvious thugs drove down our road slowly looking for an easy target. I stepped out with a 9mm on my hip and a shotgun on a sling and the moment the saw me they peeled out and never looked, or came back.

When we go to church our teacher and I and several others of my brothers in Christ talk about a new gun or scope we bought, or maybe a day at the range. My wife has her .38 in her purse and we sit in the front row during the sermon. Meanwhile there are at lease 12-18 others behind me with concealed guns and I have never worried about them one little bit. I guess that you have to value freedom more than people control to understand how intrinsic it is to being an American.

I think being a Christian and wanting to take away the rights of fellow Christians to protect themselves and their family against evildoers and oppressive governments is mutually exclusive.

It is not evil to protect oneself and other innocents, but it is evil to want to take away the ability of others to protect themselves.

I understand what the Bible says about following the laws and government. God puts them there and takes them away. But in this country we have the right to take a stand against the government and change it if it is evil and if we don't then we are remiss in our duties as Americans. If you look at the founders thinking like that when they made the laws, fully aware of what the Bible said, then you would understand we must resist those who want to take away the rights originated by the founders. And I am not talking about sedition. I am talking about using the law of the land to change the landscape from socialism and Marxism back to the country our founders intended. I am also trying to highlight that we have allowed our local and state courts systems to be taken over by liberal left wing politicians and we need to take it back. Legally.

I worked at a factory for 32yrs until one day I fell asleep at the wheel and hit a state snow plow head on. I am now disabled and I languished for 5yrs in grief over losing my job. One day I believe the Lord gave me a prompting to fix, repair and mainly refinish guns. Something I've dabbled in on my own gun. I have grappled with this question until I read that the first time Jesus sent the disciples out to spread the gospel he sent them with no supplies or weaponry. But on his approaching death he told them to carry a sword. Here's the point, Jesus instructed them to take a sword (also on the night of his arrest). You see being on the road in those days was dangerous, bandits roamed freely robbing and hurting people. The way I see it He made provision for their safety and defense. So I confidently believe now that there is nothing wrong with owning firearms. Hey you can kill with an automobile too. I have learned, studied and now doing amateur gunsmithing. I call it my encore enterprise. I love to hunt and target shoot. Where I live it is not dangerous so I don't carry all the time. However when we go to the cities I carry. I absolutely hate the thought of killing another human being, except in war, but I do believe in defending myself and others. So far, even though I like the feel and fun of a modern sporting arm, aka assault rifle I won't own one until our state (PA) allows semi's for hunting. I will not work on one for anyone I feel is a danger. Case in point we were in a gun shop a couple years ago when 3 guys, most likely gang members, came in and bought a gun. As a gunsmith or dealer our state allows us to refuse sale to anyone we feel would use it to harm someone else, or themselves. I would include the hurting souls that aren't mentally stable in that group. I would not have have sold it to them. I would have shared Jesus with them. I am super safe to make sure my arms can't be accessed by anyone but me. Oh and did I tell you my wife likes to shoot. Indeed, my former Pastors as far back as I can remember were hunters/shooters. Saturday I shot a PPC match, and the guy I was next to was also a Lutheran Elder, from the same Synod, from a Parish about 30 miles from my house, and about 40 miles from the range where we both shot. LOL. Good Times. My present Pastor is not a shooter... but he wants to become one!

I once said that I like guns and think of them as a beautiful technical art. I was nearly kicked off of FB and the hate mail was on one reason I left FB. It seems that some people have the impression that if you say that you are a Christian and like guns then you are a hypocrite. Not so. I am also a former machinist and fabricator, a marketing management professional, a 3D CAD artist, and I have built thousands of fixtures for manufacturing engineering of products almost everybody has seen in some form. I do not mean that all guns are beautiful, technical, nor an art. However, I do appreciate those which are made in high or moderate volume manufacturing and have the look and feel of fine craftsmanship. I really appreciate it when I see an older a gun with more tight fitting the parts and which as been around for many years and still shoots accurately and reliably. What about you? Do you think that being a Christian and like guns makes you (me) a hypocrite?

Um, no, why would it? I love guns like I love any well made tool that functions well.
I have trouble understanding people who don't like guns, but that's their preference. As long as they keep it to themselves, lol.

Folks that think being a Christian and firearms don't mix live in nice gated communities or apartments. Some of us live in more rural areas of the country and a firearm is a valuable tool. And I am not thinking of home protection, even though that is part of it. One can run into some critters out in the countryside that can ruin your day if they have a mind to, and having a firearm is a good thing.

Preservation of life, from both man and beast, is highly scriptural. It is higher that even the Ceremonial Torah law in scripture. David when he was on the run from Saul, was allowed to eat the showbread from the tabernacle even though generally it is forbidden. Preservation of life has a higher priority. When the Pharisees were complaining about Yeshua and the disciples picking and eating grain on Shabbat, same thing applied. Preservation of life had a higher priority.

A firearm can be for sport or for protection. But it is very myopic and scripturally illiterate for some to think a Christian having a firearm is a dichotomy. A firearm is no different than any other tool like a knife, Machete, archery, etc. Even a screwdriver or a hammer. All of which can be useful tools and all have been used to kill at one time or another. All are tools for different purposes and not necessarily for protection of life alone.

I’m not passionate about firearms. But I did excel at marksmanship in high school and there are activities I’d to try that involve the use of guns. Like skeet shooting.

I don’t foresee myself taking up hunting, but I’m interested in fox hunting (non kill in the US) as a participant and spectator.

No, You have the right to defend yourself. If guns were in the hands of Good Christians, we would do the right thing. Its not the gun that's bad, it's the person.

Agree. Firearms are just objects and tools. Many are killed each year from Motorcycles. But I like to motorcycles and own one and ride it. It is no different than me wanting to step out behind my house and relax will putting cylindrical shaped pieces of copper and lead in the bullseye of a target I have set up behind my pole barn. I can use a motorcycle for a nefarious purpose, like being a mule transporting drugs or I can use it responsibly as fun transportation. Likewise, I can use a firearm for a nefarious purpose or use it as a source of fun and skill. Riding a motorcycle is a challenge. Using a firearm is a challenge. They are equal in their moral stature.

I can use the Motorcycle to go get a few quick groceries at the store. I can use the firearm to put meat on the table. No difference.

I used to hunt, and will still go out and shoot groundhogs given the opportunity, and have one rifle dedicated to that; were I to live in western Canada, Gophers would be in my sights in the warmer months.

Almost all of my shooting is at a range, competing formally, less formally at a club level, and against myself. I have 7 hand guns; four are for PPC and IDPA (hope to start that this coming year); two I use for Bullseye, and of these, I use all 7 for various club level shooting events. Likewise, with .22 rifles, I have three dedicated to club level shooting, and one to long range rimfire.

I also have some collector pieces and black powder, that get out occasionally for paper also.

It is fun, challenging, and socializing with people of like mind, and learning and teaching from them and for them and seeing them and yourself improve is very satisfying.
