I used to do that as well, I ceased downloading music not because I believe it is wrong, but because the gov says it's wrong therefore I obey because the Bible clearly states to submit.

Really though guys, I encourage you to not forget the good legal uses for P2P's.
There are plenty of legal uses for it.

A Few:
1. Getting backup cd's of what you own.
2. Linux Distributions.
3. Legal Bittorrent sites.
4. Free Bands

I run a legal Bittorrent site, there is allot more legal media you can get permission for than ya would ever expect!

I download music and I am currently trying to download a movie... but I don't usually take movies. I usually download a couple songs and if I like them will go out and buy the CD... my roommate did a speech on this and figured out that it can help the music industry in some respects.

i just rip internet radio streams, just like taping FM/AM radio stations. I do download some movies. Like a while ago i bought Kung Pow and my lil sister broke the DVD in half. So i believe i had a right to do so. plus, the prices on things are getting to extreme.

Thanks for nothing you do nothing except rip off bands and the people that put their hard earned cash into giving you entertainment, i think its honestly people like you that dont help the Music Industry and its no suprise bands cant get shows because people dont go to them if they can get things for free, I also want to say I have done it before but then now i am in a band i realise how much money is needed to do it.

Thanks agian for Nothing

I used to download music onto my computer before I had highspeed and knew about streaming radio. I listened to it on my computer only. No burning them onto cds and if my computer for some reason dumped everything they were all gone. And DH (Darling husband) would reformat our computer regularly and all it would be gone anyway. I listen to streaming radio now that I have cable speed. Its legal and I get to listen to music without static.

I have one burned cd in my collection and that one is from a friend. I don't listen to it often and probably wouldn't have bought the cd anyway.

Are there any websites that let you listen to a small sample of a song to see if you like it or the cd so you know wether to buy it or not? That would be a good alternative to DLing to see if you like them. If not I think someone should make one.

Amazon will let you listen to a small sample of the song, and most likely if you go to the artists site, they will also have something along the same lines.

^ I totally agree. People have this odd way of thinking that all these bands they are downloading from are rich and don't need the money. Wrong. It costs a LOT of money to record an album, pay a producer, pay to have the album put on cd, pay for publicity and promotional materials. So much goes into the albums and there isn't nearly as big a return as most people think. The sad thing is that bands work their butts off for the entertainment of people and yet they can justify ripping them off by saving a few bucks and downloading songs because "Well, they make millions anyway so my downloading it won't hurt."

Very very very few bands make millions doing what they do. You look at all the bands out there, less than 1% of those bands are making millions.

Think of it this way. 1 of 3 people have the mentality that they aren't hurting anyone by downloading an album. Lets say a band has 5,000,000 fans across the globe, and that 1 in 3 download the album. That is 1,666,667 people who don't pay for the album. Now the average album today is $16. That's $26,666,672 in album sales. Now if a band makes .15 per album, that's still $250,000. Keep in mind that a band rarely ever sells 1 million copies let alone 5. So you see where I'm going with this. And the money they get from that goes towards touring, writing a next album, paying bills... Yes, they make the most of their money from touring, but you have no idea how difficult a life it is to be a successful musician...

It's illegal by law, I don't have a bad conscience because of that. Not at all. I regard it actually as something that's ok, I mean I am doing nothing that's morally wrong.

I am not stealing a CD, I am just copying a computer code ( binary 1's and 0's ) from someone else's PC.

i'm not going to bash your opinion because it of course is your opinion and you are entitled to feel how ever you please. but you chose a really weak way of justifying what is stealing. you say you are copying computer code. well when it all comes full circle a person signed to label made the music you are listening to. it is there intellectucal property which they put on an album for sale. you acquiring this music without paying for it would hence forth be stealing because you yourself didn't pay for the music. just to throw you a little twist. imagine your whole income was based on record sales. how would you feel about people trading your music amongst eachother by the millions for free. when that is potential money in your pocket. you bust your hump writing songs, recording, promoting your upcoming album at shows. only to find out that you sold a lack luster amount of records because people are online disrespecting your craft/art. tell me you'd still feel the same way.

you can't...

and if you do...

then you need :help:

I admit that i have and still do download illegally from the internet. I don't want to have to buy a whole CD that may end up having some songs on it that i dont even like. They are also like 15-16 dollars and it is only 10 dollars for 30 balnk CDs that you can put almost 20 different songs on. I also admit that i dont feel bad although maybe i should. With prices today and the technology we have it is very tempting to not join in on it
