I haven't bought a CD for at least 6 years now.

It's illegal by law, I don't have a bad conscience because of that. Not at all. I regard it actually as something that's ok, I mean I am doing nothing that's morally wrong.

I am not stealing a CD, I am just copying a computer code ( binary 1's and 0's ) from someone else's PC.

Exactly. Not to mention it's the record company's fault for overpricing CD's in the first place. Statistically, it costs them 20% or less to make the CD's.

Do you expect music artists to be motivated to keep putting out music if they can't make money off of it? What of the employees of this company?

Prices raise as more people pirate music in an attempt by the companies to minimize the losses.

"It's the companies' fault I pirate music"

No. Quit avoiding responsibility for your own actions.

Music artists only get a small percentage of the profits. Also remember that not only musicians are paid by these companies. What of the Janitors of the company? The people the company considers expendable?

I believe that there is a difference between music sharing and music piracy, and it's a pretty thin line.

Sharing is where if you discover something you like, you eventually go out and buy the CD to support the artist's work. Piracy is where you download a full CD, and not go out to buy it even if you love it.

But more importantly, if you do this, you're doing something illegal, and it's not the company's fault -- it's yours.

IMHO, any musician who is primarily motivated by making money shouldn't be making music. Music, like any art, should be made primarily because someone feels moved to do so-- perhaps even compelled to do so. Are people really going to stop making music if they don't get any money? Doubtful...

Kazaa is crapp when it comes to fakes. If you're careful of what you download, you don't have any problems. It surprises me how many people have problems with these programs, but whatever.

Bitorrent is the newer upcomer. It seems to be the really popular one now.

Kazaa is a really sweet program as long as you know how to get reliable stuff. I've got stuff I haven't been able to find anywhere else. But I always go to purevolume first to see if the artist themselves put the song I'm looking for on the site.

Kazaa is actually legal. If you pop over to their site: www.kazaa.com It says so there. However, Kazaa installs third-party software, so I recommend Kazaa Lite.

Kazaa in of itself is legal. Using Kazaa to steal music is illegal and unethical.

It's like saying a crowbar is legal to obtain, but using that crowbar to smash a car's window is illegal.

You guys should ask yourself what would Jesus do. Would He really break the law and take somebody else's music for His own enjoyment or in order to save money?

I used to be an avid music downloader until God told me to stop. No matter how much you guys rationalize, it's not going to change the sinful nature of breaking the law and stealing something for your own pleasure.

Interesting.

So that means it's perfectly acceptable to hack into a competitor's computer system and sneak a peak at their upcoming market strategy? It's just 1's and 0's.

I honestly think that mae downloading songs from the net is not gonna break the artists that I listen too. I mean, They make PLENTY of money, so I dont think its wrong.

Sounds like rationalization to me.

I don't remember God's commandment saying "Thou shall not steal, unless thy neighbor has sufficent money."

Who are you to judge how much money is enough? Can I burglarize my next door neighbor's home because he has too much money by my standards?

Thank you for your insight. You're right, we should all judge other people on their intentions and dictate to them what we consider acceptable behavior set by our own standards. In my opinion, anybody that manufactures automobiles should be doing it for their own personal enjoyment and not the money. To enforce that ideal, I'm going to promote automobile theft throughout the nation.
