Yes, I love when people try to justify themselves even though they have heard valid argments that prove something is wrong. They obviously have no respect for the artists who spend a lot of time writing those songs. So they make excuses as to why they shouldn't have to pay for something... I'll give you 2 good reasons right now.

1) God says to obey the laws of the land. The law of the land says that pirating music is illegal. Ignorance is no longer an excuse. This has been ongoing now for 4 years starting with the Napster thing. No one can say they've not heard about the RIAA mp3 war. Whether you agree or not isn't the point.

2) There are places you can now download single songs. $0.99 is NOT that much money. CDs cost average about $16. You can download most whole cds for $12 on places like itunes. The problem is there are selfish people who believe that if it's offered somewhere for free, why pass it up even if it's wrong?

I've even heard the excuse that people want to hear it before they buy it, even though most artists have either clips or streams of their songs on their webpages anyway. It's an excuse to try to justify not paying for it is all. If an artist wants their music out to the public without paying for it, they will post the mp3s on their own webpage. Any other way, if you agree or not, is wrong...

Just wondering...

Are u all sure it really is illegal to download..?? Atleast here in europe (most parts)...(including Finland), where "nothing" is legal and all is EXPENSIVE, it is legal to download anything... but it's ILLEGAL to SHARE... I mean u can download all music, DVDs, porgrams etc. u want...but u may NOT share it! If u wanna download a program, it's legal... if u wanna use it, u need a Licence to use it!

Maybe that's different in other countries... Like I said... I was just wondering :D

Yep, I sure have. I don't do it a lot though. But I only do it for two reasons mainly.
1. I have a LOT of old tapes and I didn't want to convert them into MP3's. So now I have the original tape and one copy of each on CD though I downloaded the MP3 of that album from the Internet.

2. I sample new songs that I may be interested in buying. I've bought many CD's because I liked the artist from listening to their songs that I downloaded. I don't just leech, if I really like the songs and keep listening to it over time, chance are I'll pick up the CD. In fact I hardly listen to many MP3's from the net any more, I like the CD's I have now... for a change :)

I use Limewire.

From a moral standpoint, I look at it a lot like speeding. The law says that you are to drive at a certain speed, though most people will go above that speed (I usually go about 10 mph above the speed limit on average, sometimes more). Is it a sin to speed? I don't think so. I think that as a Christian you can download music and speed on the roads, so long as you are willing to face the consequences if you are caught without complaining or feeling wronged somehow.

That said, I do buy albums too. Sometimes I will buy a used album on vinyl for $1 or so and then I download the album offline, which is entirely legal as I own the copyright from the vinyl. That's the cheap way of doing it.

Have downloaded stuff I previously bought and lost but regretted it when I got nasty visitors on my computer. Some download sites are only legal in their own countries - I know of at least one Russian site that claims it is legal, but I bet it isn't elsewhere...

I thought that it wasn't illegal to download copyright material. I heard that it's illegal to share it, but not to download it. Odd, huh? Anyway, is is true?
