Finally, and I readily admit that some of this information is old, according to the Migration Policy Institute, there were somewhere around 8 million total illegal immigrants from Mexico, Central America and South America. Just over half a million of those were from South America and it is unlikely that they merely walked across the Mexican border. That would leave just shy of 7.5 million that could possibly qualify as immigrants that may be effected by a wall. Most of them, a very, very large portion, came across at a legal check point and then overstayed whatever permission they were given to enter into the country. A wall wouldn't have had any effect on their entry into the U.S.
Of those, and this number would also include those who are here illegally from Asia, Africa and Europe, just over one million where school aged children. Of those, one million spoke english only, this is likely the european and Caribbean group. Some 5 million, of the total 11 million illegal immigrants (includes the Asian,African, European total) had a fair proficiency of the english language. Unfortunately the study doesn't break that down into age groups and so we have no way of knowing, from this study, how many student age immigrants had reasonably proficient english skills.
BTW, the demographics show that about 4 million of these 'unauthorized' (their term) own their home. So, that's over a third, at the time of this study, that you know paid property taxes directly for the cost of school education for their children. I would also like to point out in all fairness, that this study includes 'unauthorized' people, of whom many have lived here for years and established lives while still holding on to their unauthorized status. So, I again reiterate that there is certainly some burden on the U.S. citizen for recent arrivals, but as the illegal immigrant becomes assimilated into American society, most of them lose that status of being non-taxpaying freeloaders.
