  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I was #NeverTrump. I’ve changed my mind.

That's a scurrilous ... fake fact... untruth... prevarication.

Oh, they had a few interviews with confused people thinking they were getting free phones or whatever. Just remember that this standard needs to apply to Trump voters as well; if we find some confused Trump voters then we can say that Trump voters voted that way for silly reason X. It's a fun game.

Obama was well known as Santa Clause.

The phone program that started with Reagan? Why you people continue to falsely attribute this to Obama is egregiously disingenuous. Yeah, all in good fun, sure aka trolling.

If you are concerned about the draft that will never work again. It takes too long to train, cost too much money and with the test that give now could be too easily blown if someone REALLY did not want to serve. What they are doing instead is offering more money for certain jobs and waiving certain criminal history (usually drug and property crimes) as well as certain medical conditions that used to be disqualfing to meet demand for troops. Trust me there are PLENTY who want to serve that currently cannot because of needing a waiver and I can promise you waivers will be back before the draft ever will. The only way the draft would work today is if they kept it and not just in terms of war but ALL the time and you would still have some of the same issues.

I don’t think wavers are a good idea. Bowe Bergdahl got a waver for the Army after the Coast Guard discharged him three weeks into basic training because he was a nut job.

We've waited. We've seen. We're not impressed.

But by all means, continue to lower the bar for his benefit. Compliment him on the marvelous way he exchanges oxygen for carbon dioxide.
You're waiting. You're seeing. That's present tense. We have now seen what Obama did. And we're trying to change it.

You're waiting. You're seeing. That's present tense.

In reference to the first quarter of his presidency, it's past tense... and none too impressive.

We have now seen what Obama did. And we're trying to change it.

And I have no doubt you will... perhaps Donald can change it into something good for a change?

Because what we've waited for and seen thus far (that's past tense) is, as noted, none too impressive.

some waivers are good some are bad, but for a wide range of reasons the draft ( other than having it all the time which would defeat our pride in an all volunteer force ( which is probably better anyway is simply no longer a viable option. It was great when they could train you for six to eight weeks and send you off not so much anymore ( particularly with the ASVAB now where one could simply blow the test and you would not know who blew it and who honestly could not hack it or either you would end up with WAY too many of the first group doing jobs that any old body could do and lack jobs that took more effort and training.

The countries on the top of any 'best places to live' list tend to be imbued with Western values and Western institutions.

True enough... but there are also plenty of countries with Western values and Western institutions you wouldn't live in if they paid you...

Meh. Not my favorite country, but I would go there if necessary. I've been to worse places.

Worst thing about going to France is that the French don't like Americans.

We should have just kept the whole country after liberating it. They clearly aren't fit to run it.
