Link me a scientist who says that, or you're lying.
Sorry, but no one would EVER say that because its NOT TRUE.
It came from a book I was reading in the library. Think I 'm lying? Why don't you go look it up. It was years ago. I think this conversation has ended.

Does this book have a NAME!? I can't look up books without a title.
And if it was 'years ago' why would you not think that maybe it was wrong?

And yeah, I think this conversation has ended as well.

I am in shock that I had to debate the 1st Law of Thermodynamics with someone.

Okay.

Okay.

Everything is made up of matter.
Anything you can see or touch, the air you breathe, everything alive.
All matter.

Matter is made up of atoms.

When you split an atom you get a sub-atomic particle.

You can't get any smaller than a sub-atomic particle because matter cannot be destroyed.

A sub-atomic particle is STILL MATTER.

When a nuclear explosion occurs, WHAT HAPPENS TO THE GROUND AND BUILDINGS AND TREES AND PEOPLE AND ANIMALS? THEY ARE GONE.

No.
There are NO scientists that disagree on this.

This is what you're missing,

Did you read what I linked?

This is a scientific LAW.
It has never been disputed by anyone.

Even when you split an atom it becomes a sub-atomic particle, and you CANNOT destroy a sub-atomic particle, no explosion ever could.

We're disputing it now, so you've just lied. It has been disputed.

Now hold it, I'm still here.

And how can things change if they aren't questioned? It seems to me you're going against your own atheistic nature here.

It seems to me that you're not making any sense.

"
When a nuclear explosion occurs, WHAT HAPPENS TO THE GROUND AND BUILDINGS AND TREES AND PEOPLE AND ANIMALS? THEY ARE GONE."

They've been vaporized. Vaporized means they've been turned into gas. Gas is still made of atoms and is still a form of matter, so matter has been made SMALLER, but has NOT been destroyed.

"
We're disputing it now, so you've just lied. It has been disputed."

By someone not even old enough to be in college.

Really? Prove that's what happens. Prove it. I want to see an account of someone who was there and examined what happened to the matter. Ah, how foolish of me, no one has done that yet.

So I'm less intelligent because I'm 14?

HELLO! HELLO! HELLO!

What BASE and IDOL discussion.

The Science Friend's argument will lead you down all the way to.." we all come from primordial soup beating upon the rocks for millions of years"...

How far are you going to disgrace yourself in partaking.

At current, your on sub-atomic particles...sub-atomic particles/primordial soup...I just don't know.

Now, go read you Bibles both of you...and have Grace.

You want to talk to someone who has split atoms?
Well I don't know any of these nuclear physicists personally, but I highly doubt they'd be interesting in trying to prove something that is blatantly obvious to you.

And you're wrong, they HAVE seen sub-atomic particles, that;s how we know they exist. We can SEE them.

It doesn't make you less intelligent, but it does make you less educated.

Tell me, do you go to a public high school?
Go ask your science teacher on Monday about the 1st Law of Thermodynamics, because you don't seem to want to take the truth from me.

I want to talk to someone who's watched a nuclear explosion and the effects personally. Right there. With a microscope. Who's done it?

I am not in a public school, sorry.

You're home schooled, aren't you?\

Explain to me why you think a nuclear physicist should want to come to these forums to tell you exactly what I just told you.

First of all, and I mean no offense, I don't believe you.

I'm a psychology major.
There is not one thing a person does in his/her entire life that is NOT selfish or based on an outcome for you.
With no hope of a reward, humans don't perform.

It's a simple fact.

If there was no need for a god and no eternal life, why would you worship? Could god even be said to exist then?
I would worship him even if there was no reward in the coming life, because there is a reward in living the present life.

One day believing in Jesus and having the intimate relationship for one day.....is better than an infinate number of days without him.

I am a 4th year psychology student(yeah, I'm also an atheist but that has nothing to do with my paper), and I'm currently writing a paper on religious belief.

I just have a few questions that I hope some of you would be kind enough to answer.

Okay, lets say that for whatever reason, you begin to have doubts about your faith. Does the idea that there is no God frighten you?

Why does it frighten you?

OR

Why does it NOT frighten you?

Edit: To be clear, this is like a yes or no question plus a short justification.
What I am asking you to do is to PRETEND that it's possible that god does not exist and then tell me how you would feel about god not existing.

Thanks.

I would really appreciate you helping me out.

Have yourselves a nice day.
I can honestly say that what scares me most is death. I'm scared to death of death, so...Christianity looks very appealing.

I know that most historians assert that the bible is NOT to be taken as a literal, historical text.

Really? Most historians? Have you taken a poll? Please provide some proof of this assertion.

I know all about the formations, the councils, the guys who 'put the bible together'.

You know "all about" them? Wow! You're a regular biblical scholar! What seminary did you attend?

But the believers of Odin, Zeus and Allah have just as much evidence as you and they think it points to THEIR god.

Unsupported statements like this just erode your point. When you make declarations like this it is necessary to provide proof; otherwise, these declarations appear to be merely your opinion.

And you WOULD think that the evidence points to your god, you have reason to. You have a psychological need for your god to exist.

Thank you, doctor. May I get off the couch now? ;)

What exactly do you mean by "psychological need"?

Peace to you.

Well I for one, after reading 18 pages of this, now have enough evidence to support two claims.

1: This is not an Honest Question, if it was, then the OP would not be debating with everyone here. This is an agenda driven question, in vain hope to support some supposed hypothesis.

2: The OP most likely is not a Psychology Major in any fashion. The nature and missinfroamtion proposed in their posts, reeks of little more then message board Atheist seeking to try and debate Christians on this subject.

The sad part is, this type of tripe is rampant in GA, and if the OP really was what they claimed to be, I would have expected far better info and responses, if nothing else, at least better language skills to explain a point, or points.

And the truly sad part of all this, is that the OP can not read the rules regarding posting in QBNC, IE: This is not a debate forum. So I am not sure how respect for their opinions, or study can be given, when they can not read something as simple as the posting rules.

Now, here is where I would expect the OP to post some kind of junk about having the right to debate and things like that, in this forum, which would only prove to substantiate my original claim, Point 2.

Now.

As sad as what I have seen erupt, I would like to say, blessings to all the Brothers and Sisters here, who have tried to answer this question truthfully. Bless you all for trying.

With all that said and done, I wish you all the best.

God Bless

Hi again Key.

If you truly had read the entire thread you would know that my primary source for the aforementioned study was a survey that was a random sampling of the North American population, and that I included 20000 responses in my data.
I merely posed my query here in an attempt to get a good quote or two.

This thread is NOT a part of my study, because it would be dishonest and unscientific to include it.

You say that I have made blind assertions through out the course of my thread, but you just made two, Sir. Can you quote where mine were?

Really? Most historians? Have you taken a poll? Please provide some proof of this assertion.

It's common knowledge.
It's more surprising to find a history major who DOES find historical relevance in the bible.
Can you provide any proof that the bible is historically accurate?

You know "all about" them? Wow! You're a regular biblical scholar! What seminary did you attend?
I wouldn't waste my precious life at a seminary.
Argue semantics with someone else.

How is it unsupported?
Religions have holy documents that they assert are complete truth, much like your bible.
They can cite prophecies, historical facts, ect to back up their beliefs just like you can.

Thank you, doctor. May I get off the couch now? ;)

What exactly do you mean by "psychological need"?

Peace to you.

I mean that if you were somehow dis convinced of gods existence that you would experience extreme psychological distress.
